This statistic shows the global smartphone market share held by Nokia each quarter from 2007 to 2013. In the third quarter of 2007, Nokia's market share was **** percent. By the second quarter of 2013 the company's market share had slipped to just *** percent. Background on Nokia Nokia is a Finnish company head-quartered in Espoo, Finland. The company has a long history dating as far back as 1865 and first began developing what would later be modern mobile phone technology in the 1960s. The company has previously been a very strong competitor in the mobile phone and telecommunication market. While the company has struggled to maintain a significant share of the smartphone market, and has also recorded multiple losses in recent quarters, when it comes to feature phones, the company does maintain a relatively secure share of the market when compared to other vendors. The company also continues to perform well in the Asia-Pacific region as well as in the Middle East and Africa where they have previously recorded the greatest sales. Across the North American market however, the company has recorded very poor sales. Previously Nokia used the operating system Symbian for its smartphones. Until 2010, Symbian was performing well in the global market but has since been overtaken by the very dominant Android system and also Apple’s iOS. As of February 2011, Nokia made the announcement that they would be switching to the Microsoft Windows OS. The company was hoping to be able to make a comeback in the smartphone market with the adoption of the Windows operating system. In 2012 however, sales saw another decrease when compared to the previous 2 years.

    Description

The global GSM mobile phone market is poised for significant expansion, projected to reach an estimated USD 600 billion by 2025, with a robust Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10% anticipated throughout the forecast period extending to 2033. This substantial growth is propelled by the increasing demand for affordable and reliable mobile communication solutions, particularly in emerging economies where feature phones and entry-level smartphones are gaining traction. The continued integration of essential mobile functionalities, coupled with the ever-present need for basic connectivity, underpins the sustained demand for GSM technology. The market is segmented into two primary types: smartphones, which continue to innovate with advanced features, and feature phones, which cater to a price-sensitive demographic and those prioritizing simplicity and battery life. The market's trajectory is further influenced by key drivers such as the expanding digital infrastructure in developing regions, government initiatives promoting mobile penetration, and the growing adoption of mobile devices for everyday tasks, from communication to essential financial transactions. While the market benefits from this widespread adoption, it also faces restraints including the increasing competition from more advanced network technologies like 4G and 5G, which offer superior data speeds and capabilities. However, the sheer volume of existing GSM infrastructure and the cost-effectiveness of GSM devices ensure their continued relevance, especially in specific applications and geographical areas where these advanced networks are not yet universally accessible or affordable. The dominant players in this dynamic market include industry giants like Samsung Electronics, Huawei Technologies, and Xiaomi, alongside established brands such as Nokia and LG Electronics, all vying for market share through diverse product offerings. Here is a comprehensive report description on the GSM Mobile Phone market, incorporating the requested elements and estimated values:
