    Description

Shifting social trends have significantly influenced the Restaurants industry's performance over recent years. Consumers' busy lifestyles and high workloads have driven demand for restaurant meals, as well as takeaway and delivery services. Restaurants allow consumers to combine dining with leisure and avoid spending time on food preparation. Rising demand for food delivery platforms like Uber Eats, which enable time-poor consumers to purchase home-delivered, restaurant-quality food, has also supported industry revenue. Despite tight discretionary incomes and recent cost-of-living pressures, Australian consumers have continued to prioritise eating restaurant meals, as they view them as affordable indulgences. However, industry businesses are struggling with elevated operational costs, including high input, rent and energy expenses. Labour shortages have also plagued the industry, with restaurants facing significant retention gaps. These challenges, along with intense competitive pressures, have eroded the industry’s profitability, compelling some businesses to exit the industry. Nonetheless, the total number of enterprises in the industry has increased over the past five years as dynamic consumer preferences have created several niches for restaurants to cater to. Overall, industry revenue is expected to have soared at an annualised 8.2% over the five years through 2025-26 to $26.2 billion. This includes a moderate anticipated rise of 0.4% in 2025-26. Reeling from the economic challenges of the past five years, restaurants are set to diversify their revenue streams by expanding their service offerings to include merchandise and live events over the coming years. Restaurants are forecast to focus on improving operational efficiencies to limit costs and boost their profit margins. This includes adopting integrated technological advancements that will enhance the overall dining experience for customers. There will also be a focus on sustainability efforts as Australian consumers become more discerning about their environmental choices. Overall, industry revenue is projected to increase at an annualised 2.0% over the five years through 2030-31 to reach $28.9 billion.

The Australian Fintech market, valued at $4.11 billion in 2025, is experiencing robust growth, projected to expand at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10.32% from 2025 to 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key drivers. The increasing adoption of smartphones and internet penetration across Australia has created a fertile ground for digital financial services. Furthermore, a young and tech-savvy population readily embraces innovative payment solutions, investment platforms, and lending options offered by Fintech companies. Government initiatives promoting digitalization and financial inclusion are also contributing to market growth. Strong competition among established players like Afterpay Touch, Judo Bank, and Wise, alongside the emergence of numerous startups, fosters innovation and drives down costs for consumers. However, regulatory hurdles, data security concerns, and the need for robust cybersecurity measures pose challenges to the market's continued expansion. The market is segmented into various service propositions, including money transfer and payments (the largest segment, likely driven by Afterpay and similar services), savings and investments (growing due to increased accessibility through apps), digital lending and lending marketplaces (facilitated by companies like Athena Mortgage), online insurance and insurance marketplaces, and other niche services. The competitive landscape is dynamic, with both established financial institutions and disruptive Fintech firms vying for market share. Future growth will likely be driven by further integration of open banking technologies, personalized financial management tools, and advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning within financial services. The projected market size for 2033 can be estimated based on the provided CAGR. Using a compound interest calculation, the market is expected to exceed $11 billion by 2033. This signifies a significant opportunity for both established players and new entrants. However, sustained growth necessitates a focus on addressing regulatory challenges, enhancing cybersecurity infrastructure, and maintaining consumer trust. The continued adoption of innovative technologies and the expansion of financial literacy programs will further contribute to shaping the future of the Australian Fintech landscape. How to use the dataset

This dataset can be used to gain insights into the Australian job market – from job types, salaries, and locations to trends in growth across states. To get started working with this data, you will need to download the dataset from Kaggle.

Once you have the dataset downloaded, it is important to become familiar with the different fields available as these will influence what kind of analysis you can do. The columns include category, city, company name, geo coordinates (for location-based analysis), job board (to determine where these jobs were posted), job description (to find relevant keywords and topics related with each position), job title (to search for specific jobs or trends in titles over time), job type (i.e full time/part-time etc.), posting date and salary offered.

You can further filter your results based on any combination of these different column values to get more targeted information about a certain area or topic that you are researching on. Additionally, visualizing certain elements such as salary ranges by region/job type may be helpful for gaining a wide understanding of Australia’s labor landscape in various sectors and cities.

Finally, it may also be useful to look at how salaries might have changed over time by comparing postings from 2 different years for example which could help identify employment growth areas or opportunities for businesses looking to set up shop in certain regions etc

    Research Ideas

    • Analyzing Salary Trends: By investigating the salaries of various job postings, researchers can gain insights on wage growth and wage disparities across different cities and states in Australia.
    • Comparing Job Types & Salaries: Researchers can observe which cities offer higher salaries for particular job types and also get an understanding of what is expected from potential applicants.
    • Tracking Job Market Growth: By using data from the years before, it is possible to identify which areas have seen the most growth in terms of job opportunities and how that compares with other areas in Australia

    Description

The Finance sector's operating environment was previously characterised by record-low interest rates. Nonetheless, high inflation prompted the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) to hike the cash rate from May 2022 onwards. This shift allowed financial institutions to impose higher loan charges, propelling their revenue. Banks raised interest rates quicker than funding costs in the first half of 2022-23, boosting net interest margins. However, sophisticated competition and digital disruption have reshaped the sector and nibbled at the Big Four's dominance, weighing on ADIs' performance. In the first half of 2025, the fierce competition has forced ADIs to trim lending rates even ahead of RBA moves to protect their slice of the mortgage market. Higher cash rates initially widened net interest margins, but the expiry of cheap TFF funding and a fierce mortgage war are now compressing spreads, weighing on ADIs' profitability. Although ANZ's 2024 Suncorp Bank takeover highlights some consolidation, the real contest is unfolding in tech. Larger financial institutions are combatting intensified competition from neobanks and fintechs by upscaling their technology investments, strengthening their strategic partnerships with cloud providers and technology consulting firms and augmenting their digital offerings. Notable examples include the launch of ANZ Plus by ANZ and Commonwealth Bank's Unloan. Meanwhile, investor demand for rental properties, elevated residential housing prices and sizable state-infrastructure pipelines have continued to underpin loan growth, offsetting the drag from weaker mortgage affordability and volatile business sentiment. Overall, subdivision revenue is expected to rise at an annualised 8.3% over the five years through 2024-25, to $524.6 billion. This growth trajectory includes an estimated 4.8% decline in 2024-25 driven by rate cuts in 2025, which will weigh on income from interest-bearing assets. The Big Four banks will double down on technology investments and partnerships to counter threats from fintech startups and neobanks. As cybersecurity risks and APRA regulations evolve, financial institutions will gear up to strengthen their focus on shielding sensitive customer data and preserving trust, lifting compliance and operational costs. In the face of fierce competition, evolving regulations and shifting customer preferences, consolidation through M&As is poised to be a viable trend for survival and growth, especially among smaller financial institutions like credit unions. While rate cuts will challenge profitability within the sector, expansionary economic policies are poised to stimulate business and mortgage lending activity, presenting opportunities for strategic growth in a dynamic market. These trends are why Finance subdivision revenue is forecast to rise by an annualised 1.1% over the five years through the end of 2029-30, to $554.9 billion
