    Description

The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of the Port Tobacco Quadrangle, Maryland is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) a 10.1 file geodatabase (poto_geology.gdb), and a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro map file (.mapx) file (poto_geology.mapx) and individual Pro layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer), as well as with a 2.) 10.1 ArcMap (.mxd) map document (poto_geology.mxd) and individual 10.1 layer (.lyr) files (for each GIS data layer). Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) A GIS readme file (thst_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (thst_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (poto_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Please read the thst_geology_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the GIS data and other map files. QGIS software is available for free at: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). For a complete listing of GRI products visit the GRI publications webpage: For a complete listing of GRI products visit the GRI publications webpage: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/geology/geologic-resources-inventory-products.htm. For more information about the Geologic Resources Inventory Program visit the GRI webpage: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/geology/gri,htm. At the bottom of that webpage is a "Contact Us" link if you need additional information. You may also directly contact the program coordinator, Jason Kenworthy (jason_kenworthy@nps.gov). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: Maryland Geological Survey. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (poto_geology_metadata.txt or poto_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:24,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 12.2 meters or 40 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in ArcGIS, QGIS or other software used to display this dataset. All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.3. (available at: https://www.nps.gov/articles/gri-geodatabase-model.htm).

    Description

This is a MD iMAP hosted service layer. Find more information at http://imap.maryland.gov. This data layer contains the Province-level physiographic subdivisions of Maryland in ArcGIS format. The file was developed from components of a detailed digital physiographic map of Maryland by James P. Reger and Emery T. Cleaves - currently in progress. Physiography is the study and classification of the natural landscape of the earth and the landforms that comprise it. The approach for the detailed physiographic map of Maryland is hierarchical and descriptive. Subdivisions are based on similarities (within) and differences (among) geologic structure - rock type - geomorphic history - and topographic characteristics. Data and subdivisions were compiled at a 1:100 - 000 scale for the detailed state-wide map. The hierarchical classification of the detailed physiographic map (in progress) includes subdivisions as follows - in descending order (and generally decreasing size): Province - Section - Region - District - Area. In Maryland there are portions of five physiographic Provinces. In this file - the polygons reflect Province level subdivision. The polygon feature attribute table has been developed to pertain only to the Provinces level. The table includes information on dominant rock types - geologic structure - topographic relief - and drainage pattern.Physiography is the study and classification of the natural landscape of the earth and the landforms that comprise it. This is a MD iMAP hosted service layer. Find more information at http://imap.maryland.gov. This data layer is a compilation of the MUPOLYGON feature class - muaggatt table and component table of the Gridded Soil Survey Geographic (gSSURGO) Database for Maryland. United States Department of Agriculture - Natural Resources Conservation Service. Under the direction of the Watershed Resources Registry (WRR) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) this data has been altered from its original state. A reclassification of the hydric classification field was performed which classifies all soil map units consisting of less that 40% total hydric soils as not hydric - all soil map units from 41% - 79% as partially hydric and all soil map units 80% and greater as hydric. This reclassification was performed to provide a more refined input for modeling purposes. A full version of this database is available at: http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov/. This is a MD iMAP hosted service. Find more information at http://imap.maryland.gov. In 1993 - the Maryland Department of Planning and the Maryland State Highway Administration entered into a Data Base Usage Agreement with Bell Atlantic and Data Chromatics - Inc. to develop an enhanced street address map for Maryland. ZIP Code boundary area files were one of the products derived from this partnership. The resulting boundary area files were intended to improve the cartographic quality and accuracy of the ZIP code boundary area files derived from the U.S. Census Bureau's post 1990 Census TIGER\Line Files (based on the Census Bureau's ZIP code tabulation areas - ZCTAs). Subsequent iterative improvements to the ZIP Code boundary area files have been made using premise address information associated with mapped parcel records as provided in the Maryland Department of Planning's MdProperty View GIS tax map and parcel record DVD product. The resulting files are meant to serve as a good approximation"" of ZIP codes as polygons (which in reality they are not) but are not official ZIP Code maps and are not meant to be a substitute for any products offered by the U.S. Postal Service - the official source for ZIP code information. While there are no restrictions on their use we do recommend that they are best used with MdProperty View and that MDP makes no guarantee or warranty regarding the files. The Maryland Department of Natural resources began updating the National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) mapping of wetlands in Maryland in the early 1990s. This database lists the 3.75' x 3.75' USGS quadrangles for which 'DNR Wetlands' have been mapped. It identifies the date of source photography used to map wetlands - and the status of mapping effort. This database also gives the five-letter abbreviation used for naming 'DNR_Wetlands' files. In most cases - the first five characters are the first 'five characters' of the 'USGS 7.5' Quad Name.' When completed - the series will provide coverage for the entire State of Maryland. Description

This dataset contains geospatial data, code, and documentation relevant to the Maryland Food System Map, a web mapping application maintained by the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future between 2012 and 2023. Approximately 500 geospatial data layers that were featured on the application have been preserved here for use in future analyses of the food system in Maryland. The code behind the application has also been preserved in this dataset and can be used to better understand how the application worked and to develop similar applications in the future. The documentation provides more information about the Maryland Food System Map, including both the history of the application and how it was used. There is also metadata about when and where the data for data layers were obtained.

    Description

This map shows all of Maryland's Tier II high quality stream segments and their associated catchment/watershed. MDE uses Maryland Biological Stream Survey (MBSS) data for designating streams as Tier II. Using all MBSS stations sampled within a stream reach (defined as a section of stream from confluence to confluence), an arithmetic mean of the benthic index of biotic integrity (IBI) and the fish IBI is calculated. Only if the means of both the benthic and fish IBIs are greater than or equal to 4.00 is a stream reach designated as Tier II. As such, Tier II streams represent the best streams in Maryland in terms of water quality, water chemistry, habitat, and biotic assemblages. Tier II stream segments can range in length generally terminating at confluences, impoundment outfalls, and tidal boundaries. However, in planning activities, one should consider the entire upstream watershed to a Tier II stream as any changes to this watershed can potentially have an effect on the water quality of the Tier II stream. It is worth noting that once a stream segment is designated as Tier II, this designation lasts in perpetuity regardless of changes in water quality or local landuse. This map was last updated in Feb 2025.To access the publicly maintained list of all Tier II waters and for further information regarding Maryland's High Quality Tier II Waters, please visit https://mde.maryland.gov/programs/water/tmdl/integrated303dreports/pages/index.aspx

For continuity, many MDP parcel boundaries found in MDOT SHA Planning Level Right-of-Way (Tax Map Legacy) have been incorporated into MDOT SHA Right-of-Way data with an "Estimated" quality level. Please see below for a description of the primary attribute.-----------------------------------------------------The polygons in this layer are divided into 318 arbitrary grid zones across the State of Maryland. Updates to the parent ROW boundary line data set [MDOT SHA Right-of-Way (Secured)] are made by grid and reflected in this polygon layer. For more information or to report errors in this data, please contact MDOT SHA OIT Enterprise Information Services:Email: GIS@mdot.maryland.gov
