    Description

This layer represents the surface condition rating per trail system collected while riding the data bike along trails for the Massachusetts Trail Surface Condition Study in 2022. The surface condition rating is calculated by a weighted average of the 10-meter interval ratings along a trail's length with rougher sections weighted more. This layer provides both a raw average and a weighted average. Surface condition data was collected via the rRuf application, which was running on an iPhone mounted on the bike's handlebars.

    Description

This dataset, formerly named "Rail Trails," was created by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (formerly DEM - Dept. of Environmental Management) for the purpose of regional planning and mapping. The manager or owner of the trail should be contacted for detailed information about the permitted uses and rules of conduct that are specific to that trail. Most such corridors use, or connect to, old railway lines. The trails represented in this layer are open to bicycling as well as some combination of activities such as walking, jogging, roller blading, skiing, horse riding, snowmobiling, etc, though there are many other trails in the state that are considered multi-use but which are not included in this layer. At scales of 1:50,000 or smaller the data is reliable for all trails; At scales 1:50,000 and larger the data quality of some trails may be significantly inaccurate.

    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The All Roads Shapefile includes all features within the MTDB Super Class "Road/Path Features" distinguished where the MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) for the feature in MTDB that begins with "S". This includes all primary, secondary, local neighborhood, and rural roads, city streets, vehicular trails (4wd), ramps, service drives, alleys, parking lot roads, private roads for service vehicles (logging, oil fields, ranches, etc.), bike paths or trails, bridle/horse paths, walkways/pedestrian trails, and stairways.
