    Description

    City of Cambridge, MA, GIS basemap development project encompasses the land area of City of Cambridge with a 200-foot fringe surrounding the area and Charles River shoreline towards Boston. The basemap data was developed at 1" = 40' mapping scale using digital photogrammetric techniques. Planimetric features; both man-made and natural features like vegetation, rivers have been depicted. These features are important to all GIS/mapping applications and publication. A set of data layers such as Buildings, Roads, Rivers, Utility structures, 1 ft interval contours are developed and represented in the geodatabase. The features are labeled and coded in order to represent specific feature class for thematic representation and topology between the features is maintained for an accurate representation at the 1:40 mapping scale for both publication and analysis. The basemap data has been developed using procedures designed to produce data to the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA) and is intended for use at 1" = 40 ' mapping scale.     Description

    The 2021 Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) spatial data layer shows the point locations of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitted combined sewer overflow discharges. These outfalls occur in older cities in Massachusetts that still have areas of combined sewer and stormwater systems which overflow during heavy storm events. MassDEP has responsibility for ensuring that these systems, along with other sanitary sewer systems, are in compliance with the Clean Waters Act https://www.epa.gov/laws-regulations/summary-clean-water-act and the regulations adopted under 314 CMR 1.00 through 9.00 – please see https://www.mass.gov/regulations/314-CMR-9-401-water-quality-certification for more detail. Please refer to the Sanitary Sewer Systems and Combined Sewer Overflows guide for additional information.A list of active CSO locations was created and checked against lists contained in the NPDES permit for each CSO system along with lists contained in reports available from the systems online or on town websites. In some cases, when needed, CSO systems were contacted to verify active status of outfalls.Outfall locations are estimates based on the best available maps or coordinates and may contain errors and should only be used as a guide. For additional locational information please contact the CSO systems involved.Source Materials and Data AutomationMassDEP staff used information including maps and general descriptions of CSO locations found online and in NPDES permits to assist in mapping. This information was supplemented by maps and coordinates received from municipal staff responsible for CSO management in each of the systems involved, staff knowledge of outfall locations, maps found in system reports, and maps found on town web sites. MassDEP staff viewed the material and then mapped or verified the location of the CSO using the 2019 orthophoto as a basemap. Some systems were able to provide GIS data directly to MassDEP staff – in these cases, CSO locations were placed directly onto the provided points s or the systems provided point locations were used to verify MassDEP locations. When available, coordinates were entered directly and then checked against the orthophoto and other available maps for general accuracy. Last updated July, 2021.

In 2017, as part of its “Enhancing Resilience and Emergency Preparedness of Water Utilities through Improved Mapping” (Critical Infrastructure Mapping Project ), the MassDEP Water Utility Resilience Program (WURP) began to uniformly map drinking water service areas throughout Massachusetts using information collected from various sources. Along with confirming existing public water system (PWS) service area information, the project collected and verified estimated service area delineations for PWSs not previously delineated and will continue to update the information contained in the datalayers. As of the date of publication, WURP has delineated Community (COM) and Non-Transient Non-Community (NTNC) service areas. Transient non-community (TNCs) are not part of this mapping project.Layers and Tables:The MassDEP Estimated Public Water System Service Area data comprises two polygon feature classes and a supporting table. Some data fields are populated from the MassDEP Drinking Water Program’s Water Quality Testing System (WQTS) and Annual Statistical Reports (ASR).The Community Water Service Areas feature class (PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_COMM_POLY) includes polygon features that represent the approximate service areas for PWS classified as Community systems.The NTNC Water Service Areas feature class (PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_NTNC_POLY) includes polygon features that represent the approximate service areas for PWS classified as Non-Transient Non-Community systems.The Unlocated Sites List table (PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_USL) contains a list of known, unmapped active Community and NTNC PWS services areas at the time of publication.ProductionData UniversePublic Water Systems in Massachusetts are permitted and regulated through the MassDEP Drinking Water Program. The WURP has mapped service areas for all active and inactive municipal and non-municipal Community PWSs in MassDEP’s Water Quality Testing Database (WQTS). Community PWS refers to a public water system that serves at least 15 service connections used by year-round residents or regularly serves at least 25 year-round residents.All active and inactive NTNC PWS were also mapped using information contained in WQTS. An NTNC or Non-transient Non-community Water System refers to a public water system that is not a community water system and that has at least 15 service connections or regularly serves at least 25 of the same persons or more approximately four or more hours per day, four or more days per week, more than six months or 180 days per year, such as a workplace providing water to its employees.These data may include declassified PWSs. Staff will work to rectify the status/water services to properties previously served by declassified PWSs and remove or incorporate these service areas as needed.Maps of service areas for these systems were collected from various online and MassDEP sources to create service areas digitally in GIS. Every PWS is assigned a unique PWSID by MassDEP that incorporates the municipal ID of the municipality it serves (or the largest municipality it serves if it serves multiple municipalities). Some municipalities contain more than one PWS, but each PWS has a unique PWSID. The Estimated PWS Service Area datalayer, therefore, contains polygons with a unique PWSID for each PWS service area.A service area for a community PWS may serve all of one municipality (e.g. Watertown Water Department), multiple municipalities (e.g. Abington-Rockland Joint Water Works), all or portions of two or more municipalities (e.g. Provincetown Water Dept which serves all of Provincetown and a portion of Truro), or a portion of a municipality (e.g. Hyannis Water System, which is one of four PWSs in the town of Barnstable).Some service areas have not been mapped but their general location is represented by a small circle which serves as a placeholder. The location of these circles are estimates based on the general location of the source wells or the general estimated location of the service area - these do not represent the actual service area.Service areas were mapped initially from 2017 to 2022 and reflect varying years for which service is implemented for that service area boundary. WURP maintains the dataset quarterly with annual data updates; however, the dataset may not include all current active PWSs. A list of unmapped PWS systems is included in the USL table PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_USL available for download with the dataset. Some PWSs that are not mapped may have come online after this iteration of the mapping project; these will be reconciled and mapped during the next phase of the WURP project. PWSs that have been incorporated, reclassified, or taken offline will be reconciled during the next data update.Methodologies and Data SourcesSeveral methodologies were used to create service area boundaries using various sources, including data received from the systems in response to requests for information from the MassDEP WURP project, information on file at MassDEP, and service area maps found online at municipal and PWS websites. When provided with water line data rather than generalized areas, 300-foot buffers were created around the water lines to denote service areas and then edited to incorporate generalizations. Some municipalities submitted parcel data or address information to be used in delineating service areas.Verification ProcessSmall-scale PDF file maps with roads and other infrastructure were sent to every PWS for corrections or verifications. For small systems, such as a condominium complex or residential school, the relevant parcels were often used as the basis for the delineated service area. In towns where 97% or more of their population is served by the PWS and no other service area delineation was available, the town boundary was used as the service area boundary.     ProductionData Universe

    Effluent wastewater treatment plants in Massachusetts are permitted either through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) surface water discharge permit program or the MassDEP Groundwater Discharge Permit Program. The WURP has delineated active service areas served by publicly and privately-owned effluent treatment works with a NPDES permit or a groundwater discharge permit.

    National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permits

    In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the EPA is the permitting authority for regulating point sources that discharge pollutants to surface waters. NPDES permits regulate wastewater discharge by limiting the quantities of pollutants to be discharged and imposing monitoring requirements and other conditions. NPDES permits are typically co-issued by EPA and the MassDEP. The limits and/or requirements in the permit ensure compliance with the Massachusetts Surface Water Quality Standards and Federal Regulations to protect public health and the aquatic environment. Areas served by effluent treatment plants with an active NPDES permit are included in this datalayer based on a master list developed by MassDEP using information sourced from the EPA’s Integrated Compliance Information System (ICIS).

    Groundwater Discharge (GWD) Permits

    In addition to surface water permittees, the WURP has delineated all active systems served by publicly and privately owned effluent treatment works with groundwater discharge (GWD) permits, and some inactive service areas. Groundwater discharge permits are required for systems discharging over 10,000 GPD sanitary wastewater – these include effluent treatment systems for public, district, or privately owned effluent treatment systems. Areas served by an effluent treatment plant with an active GWD permit are included in this datalayer based on lists received from MassDEP Wastewater staff.

    Creation of Unique IDs for Each Service Area

    The Sewer Service Area datalayer contains polygons that represent the service area of a particular wastewater system within a particular municipality. Every discharge permittee is assigned a unique NPDES permit number by EPA or a unique GWD permit identifier by MassDEP. MassDEP WURP creates a unique Sewer_ID for each service area by combining the municipal name of the municipality served with the permit number (NPDES or GWD) ascribed to the sewer that is serving that area. Some municipalities contain more than one sewer system, but each sewer system has a unique Sewer_ID. Occasionally the area served by a sewer system will overlap another town by a small amount – these small areas are generally not given a unique ID. The Estimated sewer Service Area datalayer, therefore, contains polygons with a unique Sewer_ID for each sewer service area. In addition, some municipalities will have multiple service areas being served by the same treatment plant – the Sewer_ID for these will contain additional identification, such as the name of the system, to uniquely identify each system.

    Classifying System Service Areas

    WURP staff reviewed the service areas for each system and, based on OWNER_TYPE, classified as either a publicly-owned treatment work (POTW) or a NON-POTW (see FAC_TYPE field). Each service area is further classified based on the population type served (see SECTOR field).

    Methodologies and Data Sources

    Several methodologies were used to create service area boundaries using various sources, including data received from the sewer system in response to requests for information from the MassDEP WURP project, information on file at MassDEP, and service area maps found online at municipal and wastewater system websites. When MassDEP received sewer line data rather than generalized areas, 300-foot buffers were created around the sewer lines to denote service areas and then edited to incorporate generalizations. Some municipalities submitted parcel data or address information to be used in delineating service areas. Many of the smaller GWD permitted sewer service areas were delineated using parcel boundaries related to the address on file.

    Verification Process

    Small-scale pdf file maps with roads and other infrastructure were sent to systems for corrections or verifications. If the system were small, such as a condominium complex or residential school, the relevant parcels were often used as the basis for the delineated service area. In towns where 97% or more of their population is served by the wastewater system and no other service area delineation was available, the town boundary was used as the service area boundary. Some towns responded to the request for information or verification of service areas by stating that the town boundary should be used since all, or nearly all, of the municipality is served by one wastewater system.

    To ensure active systems are mapped, WURP staff developed two work flows. For NPDES-permitted systems, WURP staff reviewed available information on EPA’s ICIS database and created a master list of these systems. Staff will work to routinely update this master list by reviewing the ICIS database for new NPDES permits. The master list will serve as a method for identifying active systems, inactive systems, and unmapped systems. For GWD permittees, GIS staff established a direct linkage to the groundwater database, which allows for populating information into data fields and identifying active systems, inactive systems, and unmapped systems.

    All unmapped systems are added to the Sewer Service Area Unlocated List (SEWER_SERVICE_AREAS_USL) for future mapping. Some service areas have not been mapped but their general location is represented by a small circle which serves as a placeholder - the location of these circles are estimated based on the general location of the treatment plant or the general estimated location of the service area - these do not represent the actual service area.

    Percent Served Statistics The attribute table for the POTW sewer service areas (SEWER_SERVICE_AREA_POTW_POLY) has several fields relating to the percent of the town served by the particular system and one field describing the percent of town served by all systems in the town. The field ‘Percent AREA Served by System’ is strictly a calculation done dividing the area of the system by the total area of the town and multiplying by 100. In contrast, the field ‘Percent Served by System’, is not based on a particular calculation or source – it is an estimate based on various sources – these estimates are for planning purposes only. Data includes information from municipal websites and associated plans, the 1990 Municipal Priority list from CMR 310 14.17, the 2004 Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research “percent on sewer” document, information contained on NPDES Permits and MassDEP Wastewater program staff input. Not all POTW systems have percent served statistics. Percentage may reflect the percentage of parcels served, the percent of area within a community served or the population served and should not be used for legal boundary definition or regulatory interpretation.

    This GIS datalayer represents approximate service areas for Public Water Systems (PWS) in Massachusetts. In 2017, as part of its “Enhancing Resilience and Emergency Preparedness of Water Utilities through Improved Mapping” (Critical Infrastructure Mapping Project ), the MassDEP Water Utility Resilience Program (WURP) began to uniformly map drinking water service areas throughout Massachusetts using information collected from various sources. Along with confirming existing public water system (PWS) service area information, the project collected and verified estimated service area delineations for PWSs not previously delineated and will continue to update the information contained in the datalayers. As of the date of publication, WURP has delineated Community (COM) and Non-Transient Non-Community (NTNC) service areas. Transient non-community (TNCs) are not part of this mapping project.

    Layers and Tables:

    The MassDEP Estimated Public Water System Service Area data comprises two polygon feature classes and a supporting table. Some data fields are populated from the MassDEP Drinking Water Program’s Water Quality Testing System (WQTS) and Annual Statistical Reports (ASR).

    The Community Water Service Areas feature class (PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_COMM_POLY) includes polygon features that represent the approximate service areas for PWS classified as Community systems.The NTNC Water Service Areas feature class (PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_NTNC_POLY) includes polygon features that represent the approximate service areas for PWS classified as Non-Transient Non-Community systems.The Unlocated Sites List table (PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_USL) contains a list of known, unmapped active Community and NTNC PWS services areas at the time of publication.

    Production

    Data Universe

    Public Water Systems in Massachusetts are permitted and regulated through the MassDEP Drinking Water Program. The WURP has mapped service areas for all active and inactive municipal and non-municipal Community PWSs in MassDEP’s Water Quality Testing Database (WQTS). Community PWS refers to a public water system that serves at least 15 service connections used by year-round residents or regularly serves at least 25 year-round residents.

    All active and inactive NTNC PWS were also mapped using information contained in WQTS. An NTNC or Non-transient Non-community Water System refers to a public water system that is not a community water system and that has at least 15 service connections or regularly serves at least 25 of the same persons or more approximately four or more hours per day, four or more days per week, more than six months or 180 days per year, such as a workplace providing water to its employees.

    These data may include declassified PWSs. Staff will work to rectify the status/water services to properties previously served by declassified PWSs and remove or incorporate these service areas as needed.

    Maps of service areas for these systems were collected from various online and MassDEP sources to create service areas digitally in GIS. Every PWS is assigned a unique PWSID by MassDEP that incorporates the municipal ID of the municipality it serves (or the largest municipality it serves if it serves multiple municipalities). Some municipalities contain more than one PWS, but each PWS has a unique PWSID. The Estimated PWS Service Area datalayer, therefore, contains polygons with a unique PWSID for each PWS service area.

    A service area for a community PWS may serve all of one municipality (e.g. Watertown Water Department), multiple municipalities (e.g. Abington-Rockland Joint Water Works), all or portions of two or more municipalities (e.g. Provincetown Water Dept which serves all of Provincetown and a portion of Truro), or a portion of a municipality (e.g. Hyannis Water System, which is one of four PWSs in the town of Barnstable).

    Some service areas have not been mapped but their general location is represented by a small circle which serves as a placeholder. The location of these circles are estimates based on the general location of the source wells or the general estimated location of the service area - these do not represent the actual service area.

    Service areas were mapped initially from 2017 to 2022 and reflect varying years for which service is implemented for that service area boundary. WURP maintains the dataset quarterly with annual data updates; however, the dataset may not include all current active PWSs. A list of unmapped PWS systems is included in the USL table PWS_WATER_SERVICE_AREA_USL available for download with the dataset. Some PWSs that are not mapped may have come online after this iteration of the mapping project; these will be reconciled and mapped during the next phase of the WURP project. PWS IDs that represent regional or joint boards with (e.g. Tri Town Water Board, Randolph/Holbrook Water Board, Upper Cape Regional Water Cooperative) will not be mapped because their individual municipal service areas are included in this datalayer.

    Some PWSs that are not mapped may have come online after this iteration of the mapping project; these will be reconciled and mapped during the next phase of the WURP project. Those highlighted (e.g. Tri Town Water Board, Randolph/Holbrook Water Board, Upper Cape Regional Water Cooperative) represent regional or joint boards that will not be mapped, because their individual municipal service areas are included in this datalayer.

    PWSs that do not have corresponding sources, may be part of consecutive systems, may have been incorporated into another PWSs, reclassified as a different type of PWS, or otherwise taken offline. PWSs that have been incorporated, reclassified, or taken offline will be reconciled during the next data update.

    Methodologies and Data Sources

    Several methodologies were used to create service area boundaries using various sources, including data received from the systems in response to requests for information from the MassDEP WURP project, information on file at MassDEP, and service area maps found online at municipal and PWS websites. When provided with water line data rather than generalized areas, 300-foot buffers were created around the water lines to denote service areas and then edited to incorporate generalizations. Some municipalities submitted parcel data or address information to be used in delineating service areas.

    Verification Process

    Small-scale PDF file maps with roads and other infrastructure were sent to every PWS for corrections or verifications. For small systems, such as a condominium complex or residential school, the relevant parcels were often used as the basis for the delineated service area. In towns where 97% or more of their population is served by the PWS and no other service area delineation was available, the town boundary was used as the service area boundary. Some towns responded to the request for information or verification of service areas by stating that the town boundary should be used since all or nearly all of the municipality is served by the PWS.

    Sources of information for estimated drinking water service areas

    The following information was used to develop estimated drinking water service areas:

    Description

    CSO attributes and _location information are from a variety of datasets for each state: Connecticut: Beginning with GIS data compiled by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (“CT DEEP”) and displayed on their CSO Right-to-Know site (https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/Municipal-Wastewater/Combined-Sewer-Overflows-Right-to-Know), EPA filtered the data for the purposes of this map and made corrections based upon updated information available in EPA’s files. EPA’s map only displays municipalities with CSO outfalls, whereas CT DEEP’s map includes municipalities with CSO-related bypasses at their Wastewater Treatment Facilities (but no Combined Sewer Collection System CSO outfalls). EPA’s map only displays CSO outfalls – the point at which CSOs are discharged to the receiving water - whereas CT DEEP’s map includes CSO regulators (the structure through which wastewater and stormwater exits the conveyance pipe towards the Wastewater Treatment Facility). Maine: Service containing both facility and outfall locations permitted under the Maine Pollution Elimination System (MEPDES) and administered by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MEDEP). The data has been collected using multiple methods over 2 decades under the direction of the Maine DEP GIS Unit. All _location data was quality checked by MEDEP MEPDES Inspectors and GIS Unit staff in 2018.     The Martha's Vineyard Commission, in varying years, has joined the town water department customer list to the parcel boundary file. Data includes:Edgartown - Year 2008 (water records & parcel boundaries)Chilmark (Menemsha) - Year 2004 (water records & parcel boundaries)Oak Bluffs - Year 2017 (water records; parcel boundaries FY19)Tisbury - Year 2016 (water records; parcel boundaries FY19)The towns of Aquinnah and West Tisbury are fully served by individual private wells. In Chilmark, it is only the Menemsha village which is served by the Menemsha Water Company. Those parcels NOT served by town water in Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, & Tisbury are served by individual private wells.

    Description

    This pipe feature class represents current wastewater information of the mainline sewer in the City of Los Angeles. The Mapping and Land Records Division of the Bureau of Engineering, Department of Public Works provides the most rigorous geographic information of the storm drain system using a geometric network model, to ensure that its storm drains reflect current ground conditions. The conduits and inlets represent the storm drain infrastructure in the City of Los Angeles. Storm drain information is available on NavigateLA, a website hosted by the Bureau of Engineering, Department of Public Works.Associated information about the wastewater Pipe is entered into attributes. Principal attributes include:PIPE_SUBTYPE: pipe subtype is the principal field that describes various types of lines as either Airline, Force Main, Gravity, Siphon, or Special Lateral.For a complete list of attribute values, please refer to (TBA Wastewater data dictionary). Wastewater pipe lines layer was created in geographical information systems (GIS) software to display the location of sewer pipes. The pipe lines layer is a feature class in the LACityWastewaterData.gdb Geodatabase dataset. The layer consists of spatial data as a line feature class and attribute data for the features. The lines are entered manually based on wastewater sewer maps and BOE standard plans, and information about the lines is entered into attributes. The pipe lines are the main sewers constructed within the public right-of-way in the City of Los Angeles. The ends of line segments, of the pipe lines data, are coincident with the wastewater connectivity nodes, cleanout nodes, non-structures, and physical structures points data. Refer to those layers for more information. The wastewater pipe lines are inherited from a sewer spatial database originally created by the City's Wastewater program. The database was known as SIMMS, Sewer Inventory and Maintenance Management System. For the historical information of the wastewater pipe lines layer, refer to the metadata nested under the sections Data Quality Information, Lineage, Process Step section. Pipe information should only be added to the Wastewater Pipes layer if documentation exists, such as a wastewater map approved by the City Engineer. Sewers plans and specifications proposed under private development are reviewed and approved by Bureau of Engineering. The Department of Public Works, Bureau of Engineering's, Brown Book (current as of 2010) outlines standard specifications for public works construction. For more information on sewer materials and structures, look at the Bureau of Engineering Manual, Part F, Sewer Design, F 400 Sewer Materials and Structures section, and a copy can be viewed at http://eng.lacity.org/techdocs/sewer-ma/f400.pdf.List of Fields:STREET: This is the street name and street suffix on which the pipe is located.PIPE_LABEL: This attribute identifies the arc segment between two nodes, which represents the pipe segment. There could be any number of pipes between the same two maintenance holes and at least one. If there is more than one pipe between the same two maintenance holes, then a value other than 'A' is assigned to each pipe, such as the value 'B', 'C', and so on consecutively. Also, when a new pipe is constructed, some old pipes are not removed from the ground and the new pipe is added around the existing pipe. In this case, if the original pipe was assigned an 'A', the new pipe is assigned a 'B'.C_UP_INV: This is the calculated pipe upstream invert elevation value.PIPE_MAT: The value signifies the various materials that define LA City's sewer system. Values: • TCP - Terra Cotta pipe. • CMP - Corrugated metal pipe. • RCP - Reinforced concrete pipe. Used for sewers larger than 42inch, with exceptions. • PCT - Polymer concrete pipe. • CON - Concrete or cement. • DIP - Ductile iron pipe. • ABS - Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. • STL - Steel. • UNK - Unknown. • ACP - Asbestos cement pipe. • RCL - Reinforced concrete pipe lined. • OTH - Other or unknown. • VCP - Vitrified clay pipe. • TRS - Truss pipe. • CIP - Cast iron pipe. • PVC - Polyvinyl chloride. • BRK - Brick. • RCPL - Lined Reinforced concrete pipe. Used for sewers larger than 42inch, with exceptions. • B/C - Concrete brick pipe. • FRP - Centrifugally cast fiberglass reinforced plastic mortar pipe.DN_INV: This is the downstream invert elevation value.PIPE_WIDTH: This value is the pipe dimension for shapes other than round.C_SLOPE: This is the calculated slope.ENABLED: Internal feature number.DN_STRUCT: This attribute identifies a number at one of two end points of the line segment that represents a sewer pipe. A sewer pipe line has a value for the UP_STRUCT and DN_STRUCT fields. This point is the downstream structure that may be a maintenance hole, pump station, junction, etc. Each of these structures is assigned an identifying number that corresponds to a Sewer Wye data record. The 8 digit value is based on an S-Map index map using a standardized numbering scheme. The S-Map is divided into 16 grids, each numbered sequentially from west to east and north to south. The first three digits represent the S-Map number, the following two digits represent the grid number, and the last three digits represent the structure number within the grid. This field also relates to the (name of table or layer) node attribute table.PIPE_SIZE: This value is the inside pipe diameter in inches.MON_INST: This is the month of the pipe installation.PIPE_ID: The value is a combination of the values in the UP_STRUCT, DN_STRUCT, and PIPE_LABEL fields. This is the 17 digit identifier of each pipe segment and is a key attribute of the pipe line data layer. This field named PIPE_ID relates to the field in the Annotation Pipe feature class and to the field in the Wye line feature class data layers.REMARKS: This attribute contains additional comments regarding the pipe line segment.DN_STA_PLS: This is the tens value of the downstream stationing.EASEMENT: This value denotes whether or not the pipe is within an easement.DN_STA_100: This is the hundreds value of the downstream stationing.PIPE_SHAPE: The value signifies the shape of the pipe cross section. Values: • SE - Semi-Elliptical. • O1 - Semi-Elliptical. • UNK - Unknown. • BM - Burns and McDonald. • S2 - Semi-Elliptical. • EL - Elliptical. • O2 - Semi-Elliptical. • CIR - Circular. • Box - Box (Rectangular).PIPE_STATUS: This attribute contains the pipe status. Values: • U - Unknown. • P - Proposed. • T - Abandoned. • F - As Built. • S - Siphon. • L - Lateral. • A - As Bid. • N - Non-City. • R - Airline.ENG_DIST: LA City Engineering District. The boundaries are displayed in the Engineering Districts index map. Values: • O - Out LA. • V - Valley Engineering District. • W - West LA Engineering District. • H - Harbor Engineering District. • C - Central Engineering District.C_PIPE_LEN: This is the calculated pipe length.OWNER: This value is the agency or municipality that constructed the pipe. Values: • PVT - Private. • CTY - City of LA. • FED - Federal Facilities. • COSA - LA County Sanitation. • OUTLA - Adjoining cities.CRTN_DT: Creation date of the line feature.TRTMNT_LOC: This value is the treatment plant used to treat the pipe wastewater.PCT_ENTRY2: This is the flag determining if the second slope value, in SLOPE2 field, was entered in percent as opposed to a decimal. Values: • Y - The value is expressed as a percent. • N - The value is not expressed as a percent.UP_STA_100: This is the hundreds value of the upstream stationing.DN_MH: The value is the ID of the structure. This point is the structure that may be a maintenance hole, pump station, junction, etc. The field name DN_MH signifies the structure is the point at the downstream end of the pipe line segment. The field DN_MH is a key attribute to relate the pipe lines feature class to the STRUCTURE_ID field in the physical structures feature class.SAN_PIPE_IDUSER_ID: The name of the user carrying out the edits of the pipe data.WYE_MAT: This is the pipe material as shown on the wye card.WYE_DIAM: This is the pipe diameter as shown on the wye card.SLOPE2: This is the second slope value used for pipe segments with a vertical curve.EST_YR_LEV: This value is the year installed level.EST_MATL: This is the flag determining if the pipe material was estimated.LINER_DATE: This value is the year that the pipe was re-lined.LAST_UPDATE: Date of last update of the line feature.SHAPE: Feature geometry.EST_YEAR: This is the flag indicating if the year if installation was estimated.EST_UPINV: This is the flag determining if the pipe upstream elevation value was estimated.WYE_UPDATE: This value indicates whether the wye card was updated.PCT_ENTRY: This is the flag determining if the slope was entered in percent as opposed to a decimal.     Description

    MassGIS is working very closely with the State 911 Department in the state’s Executive Office of Public Safety and Security on the Next Generation 911 Emergency Call System. MassGIS developed and is maintaining the map and address information that are at the heart of this new system. Statewide deployment of this new 9-1-1 call routing system was completed in 2018.Address sources include the Voter Registration List from the Secretary of the Commonwealth, site addresses from municipal departments (primarily assessors), and customer address lists from utilities. Addresses from utilities were “anonymized” to protect customer privacy. The MAD was also validated for completeness using the Emergency Service List (a list of telephone land line addresses) from Verizon.The MAD contains both tabular and spatial data, with addresses being mapped as point features. At present, the MAD contains 3.2 million address records and 2.2 million address points. As the database is very dynamic with changes being made daily, the data available for download will be refreshed weekly.A Statewide Addressing Standard for Municipalities is another useful asset that has been created as part of this ongoing project. It is a best practices guide for the creation and storage of addresses for Massachusetts Municipalities.Points features with each point having an address to the building/floor/unit level, when that information is available. Where more than one address is located at a single location multiple points are included (i.e. "stacked points"). The points for the most part represent building centroids. Other points are located as assessor parcel centroids.Points will display at scales 1:75,000 and closer.MassGIS' service does not contain points for Boston; they may be accessed at https://data.boston.gov/dataset/live-street-address-management-sam-addresses/resource/873a7659-68b6-4ac0-98b7-6d8af762b6f1.More details about the MAD and Master Address Points.Map service also available.

    Bicycle Facility Inventory refers to MassDOT's statewide database of existing and planned bikeways available on GeoDOT. The four facility types are shared use paths (greenways, rail trails), bike lanes, separated bike lanes and bicycle/pedestrian priority roadways.
