    Description

MassGIS scanned the USGS topographic quadrangles to create a digital database that can provide images of the paper maps. These images can be used as a backdrop for plotting vector data and for interpretation and analysis. MassGIS scanned the 15-minute series (vintage 1982-1990) where these maps were available; the 7.5-minute maps (1967-1979) were used elsewhere. Note that the elevation labels for the contours on the maps may be in meters or feet, depending on the vintage of the original paper map that MassGIS scanned. Contour labels on maps from 1982 and later are in meters; labels on maps from 1967 through 1979 are in feet. See the

    Description

This reference contains the imagery data used in the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Orthophotos, raw imagery, and scanned aerial photos are common files held here. High-quality existing photography housed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Geographic and Environmental Information (MassGIS) was used as the base for the BOHA vegetation map. A true color orthophotomosaic was developed from a set of digital 1:5,000 scale medium resolution true color aerial images that are considered the new "basemap" for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by MassGIS and the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) until 2005 DOQs became available in 2006 (MassGIS 2007). The photography for the entire commonwealth was captured in April 2005 when deciduous trees were mostly bare and the ground was generally free of snow. The image type is 4-band (RGBN) natural color (Red, Green, Blue) and Near infrared in 8 bits (values ranging 0-255) per band format.

    Description

Using digital soils data from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, a series of selections and calculations classified soil associations into 9 different categories of prime forest based ultimately on forest productivity in white pine and red oak. Other data sets were used to refine this classification, including aspect, 1999 land use - land cover, riparian, slope position, wetlands, hydrologic soil association and unique areas. The hydrologic soil associations were based on NRCS information that came as Access files with the soils data. All other data was available from MassGIS.The project “Soil Productivity Mapping for Use in Forest Management” is a digital representation of work done previously in the Department of Natural Resources Conservation at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. GIS data created for this project followed (where possible) the protocol established in UMass Research Bulletin #705 – Prime Forest Land Classification for Forest Productivity in Massachusetts. Also see https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massgis-data-prime-forest-land for full metadata and access to data download.

Medium resolution true color ortho images for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, distributed by MassGIS. The photography for the entire commonwealth was captured in April 2005 when deciduous trees were mostly bare and the ground was generally free of snow. Original imagery pixel resolution is 1/2-meter.Original image type is 4-band (RGBN) natural color (Red, Green, Blue) and Near infrared in 8 bits (values ranging 0-255) per band format. This map service contains only the RGB bands and uses the "contrast stretched" JPEG 2000 versions MassGIS Produced from the original GeoTiff files. Image horizontal accuracy is +/-3 meters at the 95% confidence level at the nominal scale of 1:5,000. This digital orthoimagery can serve a variety of purposes, from general planning, to field reference for spatial analysis, to a tool for development and revision of vector maps. It can also serve as a reference layer or basemap for myriad applications inside geographic information system (GIS) software. The project was funded by the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Massachusetts Highway Department, and the Department of Public Health. For full metadata visit https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massgis-data-2005-aerial-imagery.

MassGIS' standardized ("Level 3") property tax parcel mapping data set was developed through a competitive procurement funded by MassGIS. Each community in the Commonwealth was bid on by one or more vendors and the unit of work awarded was a city or town. The specification for this work was Level 3 of the MassGIS Digital Parcel Standard. Standardization of assessor parcel mapping is complete for all 351 Massachusetts' cities and towns. MassGIS is now incorporating updates from municipalities into the database. This hosted feature layer is exported from MassGIS' internal database of the feature class GISDATA.L3_TAXPAR_POLY_ASSESS, which links L3_TAXPAR_POLY and L3_ASSESS. The export includes the expression: (POLY_TYPE IN ('FEE', 'TAX')) OR (POLY_TYPE IN ('ROW', 'PRIV_ROW', 'RAIL_ROW', 'WATER') AND PROP_ID IS NOT NULL) It contains several fields from GISDATA.L3_ASSESS and stacked polygons where multiple assessor records link to a parcel. It contains features that do not have an associated record in GISDATA.L3_ASSESS, except for rights of way and water bodies. ROWs and water bodies with a non-null PROP_ID are included. The data in this feature layer is used for the popups in the Massachusetts Interactive Property Map. See full data descriptionA hosted tile layer will draw very quickly at map scale of 1:18,056 (level 15) to 1:564 (level 20).

    Description

The digital parcel data in this data layer were provided to MassGIS by communities, or their regional planning agency partners, that received parcel grants from MassGIS in 2002 and 2006. Each municipality's parcels found in this data set were provided to MassGIS separately and then appended together to form this single data layer. Most of the parcel data included in this data layer has not been updated since it was received by MassGIS in 2002/2003 and 2006. This data layer is under development. At the present time data are available for only 45 municipalities. The grant recipients were required to deliver digital parcel data complying with "Level II" of the MassGIS Standard for Digital Parcels and Related Data Sets. The data submitted by grant recipients were subjected to a rigorous quality assurance process to ensure compliance with the standard. The standard establishes requirements for how parcel boundaries are compiled. It also requires establishing a few attributes of the polygons that are unique to the standard. In addition, the standard requires that a minimum selection of information from the assessor's database be included in a separate database table that can be linked to the parcel polygons. At Level II of the standard, an "intersection table" is required, which makes it possible to correctly model the one-to-many and many-to-many relationships that exist between assessor map polygons and assessor databases. In ArcSDE. MassGIS stores the polygons as ASSESSPAR_POLY. The intersection table is named ASSESSPAR_POLY_INT and the database table is named ASSESSPAR_POLY_DATA.
