    Description

These data were automated to provide an accurate high-resolution historical shoreline of Maui Island, Hawaii suitable as a geographic information system (GIS) data layer. These data are derived from shoreline maps that were produced by the NOAA National Ocean Service including its predecessor agencies which were based on an office interpretation of imagery and/or field survey. The NGS attribution scheme 'Coastal Cartographic Object Attribute Source Table (C-COAST)' was developed to conform the attribution of various sources of shoreline data into one attribution catalog. C-COAST is not a recognized standard, but was influenced by the International Hydrographic Organization's S-57 Object-Attribute standard so the data would be more accurately translated into S-57. This resource is a member of a series. The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The All Roads Shapefile includes all features within the MTDB Super Class "Road/Path Features" distinguished where the MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) for the feature in MTDB that begins with "S". This includes all primary, secondary, local neighborhood, and rural roads, city streets, vehicular trails (4wd), ramps, service drives, alleys, parking lot roads, private roads for service vehicles (logging, oil fields, ranches, etc.), bike paths or trails, bridle/horse paths, walkways/pedestrian trails, and stairways.

    Description

This database consists of a series of maps that depict the spatial distribution of nearshore topo-bathymetric transects perpendicular to the road and accompanying profiles that present elevation and depth values along these transects on the islands of Maui and Molokai.

Transects are identified by Francis et al. (2024a). State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) state routes and Maui County Roads are acquired from HDOT (2023) and MC (2022). Shoreline datasets are provided by NGS (2017). Elevation and depth values along the transects are referenced to local mean sea level (LMSL) and are sampled from a digital elevation model (DEM) prepared by Francis et al. (2019).

    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line File is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The Area Hydrography Shapefile contains the geometry and attributes of both perennial and intermittent area hydrography features, including ponds, lakes, oceans, swamps (up to the U.S. nautical three-mile limit), glaciers, and the area covered by large rivers, streams, and/or canals that are represented as double-line drainage. Single-line drainage water features can be found in the Linear Hydrography Shapefile (LINEARWATER.shp). Linear water features includes single-line drainage water features and artificial path features, where they exist, that run through double-line drainage features such as rivers, streams, and/or canals, and serve as a linear representation of these features.

Digital Surface Model of parts of Maui and Molokai. Partial coverage Vexcel, Inc. LIDAR of Maui and Molokai were purchased by County of Maui to assist with three-dimensional modeling of structures in areas of higher development. 1'/px, LIDAR-derived, digital surface elevation raster of parts of Maui and Molokai – specifically, Central Molokai, Kahului, Kihei, Lahaina and Pukalani. XY units: feet, Z units: meters. Use Limitations: 1.Disclaimer - This dataset is being placed in the public domain. Any use is allowed except for re-sale. Neither Vexcel, Inc., the County of Maui, nor the State of Hawaii make any guarantees, expressed or implied, regarding its accuracy or fitness of use. Users should verify XYZ values through a licensed surveyor for any engineering application. This data should only be used as a guide, vs. a statement of fact regarding real-world conditions. 2.Vertical Datum - The originator of this LIDAR dataset, Vexcel Inc. of Boulder, Colorado referenced Z values to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). NAVD88 is not recognized as a valid vertical reference for the state of Hawaii. Currently Hawaii has no official (de jure or de facto) vertical datum, and NOAA's National Geodetic Survey (NGS) recommends that elevations be referenced to the nearest NOAA tidal gauge. A legacy LIDAR dataset produced in 2013 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) used NAD83(PA11) as its vertical reference. In theory this approach should result in better accuracy for the Z dimension as PA11 is a Pacific plate-centric datum. In comparing flat areas containing neither structures or vegetation, it was found that the Vexcel values sit approximately 4 feet above the USACE dataset. The vertical datum issue was brought to the attention of Vexcel, Inc. Vexcel used the 2013 USACE LIDAR as vertical control to correct their LIDAR data. The (corrected) .las data is shared as it was delivered. As stated above, the use of this data transfers all risks and assumption of responsibility to the user For more information see https://files.hawaii.gov/dbedt/op/gis/data/Maui_2019_DSM.html or contact County of Maui at GISMonitor@co.maui.hi.us or Hawaii Statewide GIS Program at gis@hawaii.gov.

    Description

This database consists of a series of maps showing tsunami inundation based on historical events (1946 Aleutian, 1952 Kamchatka, 1957 Aleutian, 1960 Chile, and 1964 Alaska tsunamis) and hypothetical events (two great Aleutian earthquakes with moment magnitude (Mw) 9.3 and 9.6 as potential sources). Individual maps show inundation across mile-long sections of Hawaii state routes on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and Kauai previously identified for their vulnerability to the effects of climate change as part of the Statewide Coastal Highways Project Report.

Mileposts are identified by Brandes et al. (2019). State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) state routes and county street centerline datasets are acquired from HDOT (2017) and HOLIS, C&CH (2017). Shoreline datasets are provided by NGS (2017).

Please read ‘Description-Map of Tsunami Inundation.docx’ for detailed information.
