This product includes the United States Department of Agriculture - Natural Resources Conservation Service 2004 Soil Survey data and related information. An intergovernmental funding agreement between the USDA-NRCS, the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture and Lake County made this product possible. This soil information is referred to as SSURGO by NRCS.

The spatial (soil polygons) and tabular (physical and chemical properties) data for all soil survey areas are available free from the Web Soil Survey website.

'This file is a digital geospatial Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) ArcGIS polygon feature class of the tile index for Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will County, Illinois. Each tile is 2,500' on a side, and covers an area of 6,250,000 square feet or 143 acres. There are a total of 18,905 tiles, and each tile represents the boundary or extent of each ortho image. This dataset includes a coordinate based tile identification number, a delivery area number, and a project tile category. The delivery area numbers and project tile attributes are a proprietary classification that are unique to this project. This dataset is stored within an ArcGIS 10.1 geodatabase. This dataset is projected using the Transverse Mercator map projection. The grid coordinate system used is the Illinois State Plane Coordinate System, East Zone (Zone Number Zone 3776, FIPS 1201), NAD 83 NSRS2007 (horizontal datum), with ground coordinates expressed in U.S. Survey Feet.'An orthoimage is remotely sensed image data in which displacement of features in the image caused by terrain relief and sensor orientation have been mathematically removed. Orthoimagery combines the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map. There is no image overlap between adjacent files. Data received at Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) were reprojected from: Projection: NAD_1983_HARN_StatePlane_Illinois_East_FIPS_1201 Resolution: 6 inch Type: 4 Band to: Standard Product Projection: NAD_1983_UTM_Zone_16N Standard Product Resolution: 0.1500 m Rows: 10000 Columns: 10000 and resampled to align to the U.S. National Grid (USNG) using The National Map. The naming convention is based on the U.S. National Grid (USNG), taking the coordinates of the SW corner of the orthoimage. The metadata were imported and updated for display through The National Map at http://nationalmap.gov/viewer.html Chip-level metadata are provided in HTML and XML format. Data were compressed utilizing IAS software. The compression was JPEG2000 Lossy Compressed. The file format created was .jp2.

This file is a digital geospatial Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS version 9.x Geodatabase Polygon Feature Class indicating land use in the six-county region of northeastern Illinois. Northeastern Illinois is comprised of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will County. Land use is identified to 48 categories, and was created using black and white orthorectificed aerial photography that was captured in April, 2001. In addition to orthorectified aerial photography for the region, numerous GIS reference layers and several internet resources were used to support the Land Use Inventory. Land use interpretation methods and the consequent classification were conducted using a systematic approach working in thematic waves. The minimum land use classification area size was 1 acre or 2.5 acres (within the City of Chicago 0.5 acre or 1 acre), depending upon the type of land use being classified. Land use categories define homogeneous areas and represent features as they appear on the earth's surface. They are not generalized to any other geography. Version 1.2 changes: Minor modifications (post quality control) were made to correct random mis-codings. Version 2.0 changes: Corrections made based on errors found in the process of creating the 2005 update to the Inventory. These datasets contain modeling files and GIS data associated with a risk assessment study for the Cambrian-Ordovician sandstone aquifer system in Illinois from predevelopment (1863) to the year 2070. Modeling work was completed using the Illinois Groundwater Flow Model, a regional MODFLOW model developed for water supply planning in Illinois, as a base model. The model is run using the graphical user interface Groundwater Vistas 7.0. The development and technical details of the base Illinois Groundwater Flow Model, including hydraulic property zonation, boundary conditions, hydrostratigraphy, solver settings, and discretization, are described in Abrams et al. (2018). Modifications to this base model (the version presented here) are described in Mannix et al. (2018), Hadley et al. (2020) and Abrams and Cullen (2020). Modifications include removal of particular multi-aquifer wells to improve calibration, changing Sandwich Fault Zone properties to achieve calibration at production wells within and near the fault zone, and the incorporation of demand scenarios based on a participatory modeling project with the Southwest Water Planning Group. The zipped folder of model files contains MODFLOW input (package) files, Groundwater Vistas files, and a head file for the entire model run. The zipped folder of GIS data contains rasters of: simulated drawdown in the St. Peter sandstone from predevelopment to 2018, simulated drawdown in the Ironton-Galesville sandstone from predevelopment to 2018, simulated head difference between the St. Peter and Ironton-Galesville sandstone units in 2018, simulated head above the top of the St. Peter sandstone for the years 2029, 2050, and 2070, and simulated head above the top of the Ironton-Galesville sandstone for the years 2029, 2050, and 2070. Raster outputs were derived directly from the simulated heads in the Illinois Groundwater Flow Model. Rasters are clipped to the 8 county northeastern Illinois region (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties). Well names, historic and current head targets, and spatial offsets for the Illinois Groundwater Flow Model are available upon request via a data license agreement.
