    Description

New York City Population FactFinder (NYC PFF) provides detailed population and housing profiles for user defined areas within New York City. Using data from decennial censuses and the American Community Survey, the profiles are comprehensive, covering the most basic population statistics, along with detailed social, economic, and housing information. Data for user-defined areas can be easily contrasted against New York City, City boroughs, City Community Districts (approximate equivalents are used), and City neighborhoods (Neighborhood Tabulation Areas). Along with count statistics (like total Spanish-speaking population), users are provided with percent values (like percent of the population with a bachelor’s degree or higher), arithmetic means (like mean travel time to work), rates (like rental housing vacancy rate), and medians (like median household income). NYC PFF profiles can also show how a selected area has changed over time. Further, each profile contains charts allowing users to visualize the distribution of selected statistics, comparing user-defined study areas with a contrast area. All NYC PFF estimates are evaluated for data reliability – unreliable data are grayed out, alerting users of unsuitability for general use.

    Description

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires local municipalities that receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG or CD) formula Entitlement funds to use the 5-year 2016-2020 American Community Survey (ACS) Low and Moderate Income Summary Data (LMISD) data file to determine where CDBG funds may be used for activities that are available to all the residents in a particular area ("CD area benefit" or "CD-eligible area"). A CD-eligible census tract refers to 2020 census tracts where the area is primarily residential in nature and at least 51.00% of the residents are low- and moderate-income persons as per the LMISD data file. For New York City, a primarily residential area is defined as one where at least 50.00% of the total built floor area is residential. Low- and moderate-income persons are defined as persons living in households with incomes below 80 percent of the area median household income (AMI). In addition, floor area percentages have been updated with the most recent floor area data (PLUTO 24v4). Persons who are interested in determining their individual household eligibility for CD-funded programs should refer to HUD's household low- and moderate-income limits for the given year. For more information about how geographic datasets are used for compliance purposes, please refer to the following HUD Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) Notice CPD-24-04.

    Description

The Heat Vulnerability Index (HVI) shows neighborhoods whose residents are more at risk for dying during and immediately following extreme heat. It uses a statistical model to summarize the most important social and environmental factors that contribute to neighborhood heat risk. The factors included in the HVI are surface temperature, green space, access to home air conditioning, and the percentage of residents who are low-income or non-Latinx Black. Differences in these risk factors across neighborhoods are rooted in past and present racism. Neighborhoods are scored from 1 (lowest risk) to 5 (highest risk) by summing the following factors and assigning them into 5 groups (quintiles): Median Household Income (American Community Survey 5 year estimate, 2016-2020) Percent vegetative cover (trees, shrubs or grass) (2017 LiDAR, NYC DOITT) Percent of population reported as Non-Hispanic Black on Census 2020 Average surface temperature Fahrenheit from ECOSSTRESS thermal imaging, August 27,2020 Percent of households reporting Air Conditioning access, Housing ad Vacancy Survey, 2017

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset presents median household incomes for various household sizes in Manhattan Beach, CA, as reported by the U.S. Census Bureau. The dataset highlights the variation in median household income with the size of the family unit, offering valuable insights into economic trends and disparities within different household sizes, aiding in data analysis and decision-making.

    Key observations

    • Of the 7 household sizes (1 person to 7-or-more person households) reported by the census bureau, all of the household sizes were found in Manhattan Beach. Across the different household sizes in Manhattan Beach the mean income is $231,543, and the standard deviation is $70,048. The coefficient of variation (CV) is 30.25%. This high CV indicates high relative variability, suggesting that the incomes vary significantly across different sizes of households. Please note that the U.S. Census Bureau uses $250,001 as a JAM value to report incomes of $250,000 or more. In the case of Manhattan Beach, there were 5 household sizes where the JAM values were used. Thus, the numbers for the mean and standard deviation may not be entirely accurate and have a higher possibility of errors. However, to obtain an approximate estimate, we have used a value of $250,001 as the income for calculations, as reported in the datasets by the U.S. Census Bureau.
    • In the most recent year, 2021, The smallest household size for which the bureau reported a median household income was 1-person households, with an income of $94,518. It then further increased to $270,229 for 7-person households, the largest household size for which the bureau reported a median household income.
