    Description

This dataset documents the age distribution of parents in Mexico at the time of birth from 1985 through 2024. Compiled from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), it contains over 100 million registered births and provides a unique resource for studying demographic trends at national and state levels.Dataset DetailsThe dataset includes detailed annual records with the following columns:REGISTRATION_YEAR – Year when the birth was registeredBIRTH_YEAR – Year of birthREGISTRATION_STATE – Numeric ID of the state where the birth was registeredRESIDENCE_STATE – Numeric ID of the mother’s state of residenceMOTHER_AGE – Age of the mother at the time of birthFATHER_AGE – Age of the father at the time of birthCOUNT – Number of records for each combination of the above variablesIncluded FilesDataset: Complete archive of births (1985–2024) with the fields listed above, sourced from INEGI microdata.Python Script: A configurable Python script where you can specify a year and choose between national or state-level data. It then generates a heatmap that displays all the records for the selected parameters, making it easy to spot patterns in parental age distribution.Sample Figure: Example heatmap illustrating the age distribution of parents in Mexico for 2024.Requirements.txt: Python dependencies needed to run the script. This dataset is useful for researchers, demographers, public health professionals, policy analysts, and data enthusiasts interested in long-term patterns in parental ages at birth or regional differences within Mexico. It can support academic research, policy evaluation, visualization projects, and educational uses.Sourcehttps://www.inegi.org.mx/programas/natalidad/#microdatos

    Description

This project provides a comprehensive dataset of total fertility rates (TFR) and age-specific fertility rates (ASFR) for Mexico, covering the period from 1950 to 2070. The data is broken down by year, state, and age group, and includes key metrics such as total births and the total female population for each age group. In addition to the dataset, the project includes:A Python script designed to generate visualizations, such as the attached dumbbell chart, which compares TFR across time for individual states.A requirements.txt file specifying the necessary Python libraries for running the script. Both the population and birth data were sourced from the National Population Council of Mexico (CONAPO). The population data can be found here, and the birth data here. The attached dumbbell chart demonstrates TFR changes from 1970 to 2024, offering a clear visualization of fertility trends over time at the state level. This dataset and accompanying tools are valuable resources for demographic research, public policy analysis, and social studies focused on fertility trends and population dynamics in Mexico.

    Description

The statistic shows the 20 countries with the lowest fertility rates in 2024. All figures are estimates. In 2024, the fertility rate in Taiwan was estimated to be at 1.11 children per woman, making it the lowest fertility rate worldwide. Fertility rate The fertility rate is the average number of children born per woman of child-bearing age in a country. Usually, a woman aged between 15 and 45 is considered to be in her child-bearing years. The fertility rate of a country provides an insight into its economic state, as well as the level of health and education of its population. Developing countries usually have a higher fertility rate due to lack of access to birth control and contraception, and to women usually foregoing a higher education, or even any education at all, in favor of taking care of housework. Many families in poorer countries also need their children to help provide for the family by starting to work early and/or as caretakers for their parents in old age. In developed countries, fertility rates and birth rates are usually much lower, as birth control is easier to obtain and women often choose a career before becoming a mother. Additionally, if the number of women of child-bearing age declines, so does the fertility rate of a country. As can be seen above, countries like Hong Kong are a good example for women leaving the patriarchal structures and focusing on their own career instead of becoming a mother at a young age, causing a decline of the country’s fertility rate. A look at the fertility rate per woman worldwide by income group also shows that women with a low income tend to have more children than those with a high income. The United States are neither among the countries with the lowest, nor among those with the highest fertility rate, by the way. At 2.08 children per woman, the fertility rate in the US has been continuously slightly below the global average of about 2.4 children per woman over the last decade.

In 2023, the total fertility rate in Latin America & the Caribbean remained nearly unchanged at around 1.8 children per woman. Yet 2023 saw the lowest fertility rate in Latin America & the Caribbean with 1.8 children per woman. The total fertility rate is the average number of children that a woman of childbearing age (generally considered 15 to 44 years) is expected to have throughout her reproductive years. Unlike birth rates, which are based on the actual number of live births in a given population, fertility rates are estimates (similar to life expectancy) that apply to a hypothetical woman, as they assume that current patterns in age-specific fertility will remain constant throughout her reproductive years.Find more statistics on other topics about Latin America & the Caribbean with key insights such as death rate, total life expectancy at birth, and number of tuberculosis infections .
