Dissertation and dataset present an archaeological study of the Huarmey Valley region, located on the northern coast of Peru. My work uses modern and innovative digital methods. My research focuses on better understanding the location of one of the most important sites in the valley, Castillo de Huarmey, by learning about the context in which it functioned. The Imperial Mausoleum located at the site, along with the burial chamber beneath it, is considered one of the most important discoveries regarding the Wari culture in recent years.In the dissertation, I address issues concerning both the location of the site on a macro scale - in the entire Huarmey Valley, on a micro scale - the context of the Huarmey Valley delta – and the spatial relationships within the burial chamber located beneath the Mausoleum. I ask the questions (i) How did Castillo de Huarmey communicate with other sites dated to the same period located in the valley and also in adjacent valleys? Did this influence its role in the region? (ii) Is the Mausoleum at Castillo de Huarmey located intentionally and what was the meaning of this location at the micro and macro scale? (iii) What spatial relations existed between Castillo de Huarmey and other sites from the same period? (iv) Does the position of the artifacts, found in situ in the burial chamber, show important relationships between buried individuals? (v) Does spatial analysis show interesting spatial patterns within the burial inside the chamber?The questions can be answered by describing and testing the digital methods proposed in the doctoral dissertation related to both field data collection and their analysis and interpretation. These methods were selected and adapted to a specific area (the Northern Coast of Peru) and to the objective of answering the questions posed in the thesis. The wide range of digital methods used in archaeology is made possible by the use of Geographic Information Systems (abbreviated GIS) in research. To date, GIS in archaeology is used in three aspects (Wheatley and Gillings 2002): (i) statistical and spatial analysis to obtain new information, (ii) landscape archaeology, and (iii) Cultural Resource Management.My dissertation is divided into three main components that discuss the types of digital methods used in archaeology. The division of these methods will be adapted to the level of detail of the research (from the location of the site in the region, to the delta of the Huarmey Valley, to the burial chamber of the Mausoleum) and to the way they are used in archaeology (from Cultural Resource Management, to archaeological landscape analysis, to statistical-spatial analysis). One of the aims of the dissertation is to show the methodological path of the use of digital methods, i.e. from the acquisition of data in the field, through analysis, to their interpretation in a cultural context. However, the main objective of my research is to interpret the spatial relationships from the macro to the micro level, in the case described, against the background of other sites located in the valley, the location of Castillo de Huarmey in the context of the valley delta, and finally to the burial chamber of the Mausoleum. The uniqueness of the described burial makes the research and its results pioneering in nature.As a final result of my work I would like to determine whether relationships can be demonstrated between the women buried in the burial chamber and whether the location of particular categories of artifacts can illustrate specific spatial patterns of burial. Furthermore, my goal is to attempt to understand the relationship between the Imperial Mausoleum and other sites (archival as well as newly discovered) located in the Huarmey Valley and to understand the role of the site's location.Published dataset represents, described in the dissertation, mobile GIS survey on the site PV35-5 created in Survey123, ESRI application; xml and xls used for creating the survey that was used during the research of the site, as well as the results of the survey published in ArcGIS Pro package. The package includes collected data as points, saved as .shp, as well as ortophotomaps (as geotiff) and Digital Elevation Model and hillshade of PV35-5. This is SCAG 2019 Regional Land Use dataset developed for the final 2024 Connect SoCal, the 2024-2050 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS), including general plan land use, specific plan land use, zoning code, and existing land use at parcel-level (approximately five million parcels) for 197 local jurisdictions in the SCAG region.The regional land use dataset is developed (1) to aid in SCAG’s regional transportation planning, scenario planning and growth forecasting, (2) facilitate policy discussion on various planning issues, and (3) enhance information database to better serve SCAG member jurisdictions, research institutes, universities, developers, general public, etc. It is the most frequently and widely utilized SCAG geospatial data. From late 2019 to early 2020, SCAG staff obtained the 2019 parcel boundary GIS file and tax roll property information from county assessor’s offices. After months of data standardization and clean-up process, SCAG staff released the 2019 parcel boundary GIS files along with the 2019 Annual Land Use dataset in February 2021. In December 2021, SCAG staff successfully developed the preliminary dataset of the 2019 regional land use data and released the draft SCAG Data/Map Book in May 2022. The preliminary land use data was reviewed by local jurisdictions during the Local Data Exchange (LDX) process for Connect SoCal 2024. As a part of the final 2019 regional land use data development process, SCAG staff made every effort to review the local jurisdictions’ inputs and comments and incorporated any updates to the regional land use datasets. These data were originally created and assembled by the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator for US Coast Guard District Seven in circa 1992-1993 in cooperation with local Area Committees in accordance with regulations set forth by the National Response Plan of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. They were provided to FWC-FWRI (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission - Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, (at that time known as the Florida Marine Research Institute) in the fall of 2003 as shapefiles (in geographic, decimal degrees, NAD 83 datum) and PDF maps for each of the US Coast Guard's Marine Safety Office Areas of Responsibility (Captain of the Port Zones for Miami (at that time consisting of both Sector Miami and Sector Key West), Tampa, Jacksonville, Savannah, Charleston, and Puerto Rico/US Virgin Islands). In the Fall & Winter of 2003, FWC-FWRI map-joined all of these shapefile data layers into a single contiguous layer, then converted the data into a Microsoft Access database for updating. In the Winter & Spring of 2003-2004 FWC-FWRI updated contact information and other attribute data to expand and improve upon the database so it could be used as a core business data layer for the Marine Resources Geographic Information System (MRGIS) library. Using various spatial coding functions, such as "assign data by location", additional attribute information has been added to the spatial database. Some examples are: The NOAA Nautical Chart the point can be found on, the USGS Quad the point can be found on, the Environmental Sensitivity Index map the point can be found on, the Latitude & Longitude in two data formats (Decimal Degrees and Degrees, Minutes, Seconds (with special characters for each unit), and others. These data were maintained as a part of the MRGIS Library and used with report generating software to update the information as needed for the creation of new printed "Oil Spill Sensitive Site" record documents for spill contingency planning and response purposes. In March of 2007, FWC-FWRI partnered with USCG Sector Mobile (part of USCG District 8) to catalog the oil spill sensitive areas within the Sector Mobile boundary, which includes the Panhandle of Florida, coastal Alabama, and coastal Mississippi. Work had previously been performed in a workshop environment to identify and catalog these areas, but NOT in a spatial manner. FWRI began this work by systematically geocoding the previously identified locations and entering the attribute information that was available into the same database structure that was in place for USCG District 7 (as mentioned above). The goal was to create a consistent dataset for the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico/US Virgin Islands. Once the basic geocoding was complete, a workshop was scheduled and key stakeholder agency representatives were invited to attend and review and augment this dataset for Sector Mobile. This workshop was at the end of March 2007 and working group members were recruited from the Area Committee and those key stakeholders recommended by the Area Committee. Through the years of 2008-2009, FWC-FWRI partnered with the US Coast Guard and Florida Department of Environmental Protection - Bureau of Emergency Response to conduct a series of workshops to review and update these detailed Geographic Response Plan (GRP) data and maps for revised Digital Area Contingency Plans. As with Sector Mobile, the GRP Revision workshop attendees were from or determined by the specific Area Committee of each Sector. Please see process steps for more information about the history of the data. The process of data entry is ongoing at FWRI as of July 2011. Data will be entered and undergo quality assurance/quality control processes before new data sheets and maps are re-produced for distribution and inclusion into Digital Area Contingency Plans and other GIS and/or map products. A versioned geodatabase has been created in SQL/SDE to track changes and manage data entry as well as digital QA/QC processes, such as consistency checks. A map service has also been created that is available to all the public and stakeholder community to view the latest version of this geodata. The map service displays data directly from the Enterprise versioned database. http://ocean.floridamarine.org/acpgrp/default.aspx These data are used in BOTH a spatial manner and in the traditional database manner. The spatial version is used to produce response maps and in a GIS (The Florida Marine Spill Analysis System and Digital Area Contingency Plans) to provide timely, accurate, and valuable information to responders and in the traditional database manner to populate reports used in producing area contingency plan maps and data sheets. Maps are produced (as PDF) with the sensitive area sites depicted on them, they are then "hyperlinked" in PDF to the data sheet that contains the attribute data for the site in a customized data report form. The report form contains information on key stakeholders for the area, wildlife resources to be protected, nearby staging areas, recommended protection strategies, the latitude/longitude of the site, and other response related information needed by first responders.

This is SCAG 2019 Regional Land Use dataset developed for the final 2024 Connect SoCal, the 2024-2050 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS), including general plan land use, specific plan land use, zoning code, and existing land use at parcel-level (approximately five million parcels) for 197 local jurisdictions in the SCAG region.The regional land use dataset is developed (1) to aid in SCAG’s regional transportation planning, scenario planning and growth forecasting, (2) facilitate policy discussion on various planning issues, and (3) enhance information database to better serve SCAG member jurisdictions, research institutes, universities, developers, general public, etc. It is the most frequently and widely utilized SCAG geospatial data. From late 2019 to early 2020, SCAG staff obtained the 2019 parcel boundary GIS file and tax roll property information from county assessor’s offices. After months of data standardization and clean-up process, SCAG staff released the 2019 parcel boundary GIS files along with the 2019 Annual Land Use dataset in February 2021. In December 2021, SCAG staff successfully developed the preliminary dataset of the 2019 regional land use data and released the draft SCAG Data/Map Book in May 2022. The preliminary land use data was reviewed by local jurisdictions during the Local Data Exchange (LDX) process for Connect SoCal 2024. As a part of the final 2019 regional land use data development process, SCAG staff made every effort to review the local jurisdictions’ inputs and comments and incorporated any updates to the regional land use datasets.
