The County's Water and Sewer Plan assigns a water category and a sewer category to every property in the County. These service area categories serve two functions:They identify areas approved or planned for community water or sewer service and areas intended for service by individual (on-site) systemsThey identify a mechanism for staging community service for those areas planned for community service. The mechanism consists of the use of service area categories W-1 through W- 5 (for water) and S-1 through S-5 (for sewer). The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) requires the County to prepare a comprehensive update of the Water and Sewer Plan every three years. Between comprehensive updates, the County approves amendments to the plan (such as service area categories, new or revised policies, and technical information) through procedures described in Chapter 1 of the Plan. The County Executive, acting through the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), prepares the Plan's comprehensive updates and also provides recommendations to the Council for action on proposed amendments. DEP, with the assistance of other agencies, develops some amendments, typically those that involve policy issues or category changes that affect groups of properties. Property owners also propose amendments, usually those involving category changes for single properties or larger tracts intended for subdivision of new lots. Under state law, the County Council is responsible for approving the plan and its amendments. MDE maintains an oversight authority over the County’s Water and Sewer Plan and its amendments. The agency administers regulations that each county must follow in the preparation of its comprehensive plan, and acts to approve, approve with modifications, or disapprove the Plan or any Plan amendment submitted by the County. As part of this process, MDE seeks guidance from the Maryland Department of Planning for consistency with local and State planning use goals, policies and objectives. For more information, contact: GIS Manager Information Technology & Innovation (ITI) Montgomery County Planning Department, MNCPPC T: 301-650-5620

The Montgomery Parks trails are used for active and passive recreation and exploring. Much of our trail system is also used for commuting and connecting to the greater street network and trail network of the County. With over 200 miles of natural surface trail, over 70 miles of paved, and paths in nearly every one of our 421 parks, its necessary that each trail segment is recorded as it changes park unit, user type, owner type, surface type, and other aspects.Natural Surface Trails – Natural surface trails are typically narrow (2-4 feet wide) dirt trails. Types of uses associated with these trails are hiking, horseback riding, and all-terrain biking. Unless noted otherwise on the trail map, natural surface trails are “shared by all”.Hard Surface Trails – Hard surface trails may include asphalt paths but they may also be any firm and stable surface capable of supporting casual walkers and cyclists.Park Trails in Montgomery County, MD with emphasis on the M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks network. There is also information on trails provided by other entities. Only officially sanctioned trails are displayed on public interface, however internal users can view trail units in their varying stages of construction or unsanctioned status. The data is used for analysis as it pertains to trail and amenity planning, regional network planning, route and program planning. The data is also used on our public facing materials such as maps and webpages.Contact the Parks GIS Team for more information via email: MCParksGIS@montgomeryparks.org.Data LinksAGOL Feature Service: https://mcplanning.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=4a5674832aea4ffd9b86812531b12170Services:https://montgomeryplans.org/server/rest/services/Parks/ParkUnits_Py/MapServerhttps://montgomeryplans.org/server/rest/services/Parks/ParkUnits_Py/FeatureServer

Montgomery and Prince George's counties project called for the Planning, Acquisition, processing and derivative products of lidar data to be collected at a nominal pulse spacing (NPS) of 0.7 meter. Project specifications are based on the U.S. Geological Survey National Geospatial Program Base Lidar Specification, Version 1.2. The data was developed based on a horizontal projection/datum of NAD83 (HARN), State Plane, Feet and vertical datum of NAVD88 (GEOID12B), Feet. Lidar data was delivered as processed Classified LAS 1.4 files, formatted to 1,413 individual 4000 ft x 6000 ft tiles, as tiled Intensity Rasters, and as tiled bare-earth DEM; all tiled to the same 4000 ft x 6000 ft schema. Ground Conditions: Lidar was collected in early to mid 2018, while no snow was on the ground and rivers were at or below normal levels. Sensor errors in mulitple locations were identified in processing, additonal acquisition on 7/20/2018 was completed to remedy the errors. 2016 lidar data was used with approval in a single area of restricted airspace. In order to post process the lidar data to meet task order specifications and meet ASPRS vertical accuracy guidelines, Sanborn Map Company, Inc. established a total of 23 ground control points that were used to calibrate the lidar to known ground locations established throughout the project area. An additional 79 independent accuracy check points in Open Terrain and Urban landcovers were used to assess the vertical accuracy of the data. These check points were not used to calibrate or post process the data. This is a MD iMAP hosted service. This data set is a digital soil survey and generally is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a soil survey area extent format and include a detailed, field verified inventory of soils and miscellaneous areas that normally occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape and that can be cartographically shown at the scale mapped. A special soil features layer (point and line features) is optional. This layer displays the location of features too small to delineate at the mapping scale, but they are large enough and contrasting enough to significantly influence use and management. The soil map units are linked to attributes in the National Soil Information System relational database, which gives the proportionate extent of the component soils and their properties. A Site Plan is a detailed plan, required only in certain zones, that shows proposed development on a site in relation to immediately adjacent areas. It indicates roads, walks, parking areas, buildings, landscaping, open space, recreation facilities, lighting, etc. Site Plan review is required of all floating zones and of most overlay zones. It is also required in some zones when using optional method of development provisions. Further, certain parking facilities that fall under the provision of the off-street parking section of the Zoning Ordinance are also subject to Site Plan review. All natural streams, regardless of width, captured as line features; streams under 20 feet in width coded as a single line stream and streams 20 feet or greater in width coded as a stream centerline. All stream lines will be captured along the midpoint of the stream, regardless of width. In the case of a pond or lake, straight line segments will be used to connect the logical inflow and outflow point(s) of the water body. A land classification system under the Montgomery County Zoning Ordinance intended to regulate the land uses and buildings permitted in each zone, excluding road right-of-ways. Certain uses are permitted by right and others as conditional uses. Any use not expressly permitted is prohibited. The Ordinance also excludes certain uses from each zone. The text of the Zoning Ordinance specifies the permitted uses, the bulk (massing) of buildings, the required yards, the necessary off-street parking and other prerequisites to obtain permission to develop. Zoning Blocks: The main block boundaries identifying the base zone for parcels. Overlay Zones: Various overlay zones apply modifying factors to standards and uses normally found on the zoning blocks beneath them. Zoning History Annotations: Zoning case history and special exception notations Overlay TDR: Various overlay zones apply modifying factors to standards and uses normally found on the zoning blocks beneath them.
