This data set comprises the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps for the shoreline of Mississippi. ESI data characterize coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats; sensitive biological resources; and human-use resources. This atlas was developed to be utilized within desktop GIS systems and contains GIS files and related D-base files. Associated files include MOSS (Multiple Overlay Statistical System) export files, .PDF maps, and detailed user guides and metadata. The intertidal habitats were mapped during aerial and ground surveys conducted in 1995. The biological and human-use resources data were compiled by regional biologists in 1995. The dates for these data vary and range from 1968 to 1995. Dates are documented in the included metadata file.

The USGS Energy Resources Science Center has developed map and metadata services to deliver the 2002 assessment results GIS data and services online. The Gulf Coast assessment is based on geologic elements of a total petroleum system (TPS) as described in Dyman and Condon (2005). The estimates of undiscovered oil and gas resources are within assessment units (AUs). The hydrocarbon assessment units include the assessment results as attributes within the AU polygon feature class (in geodatabase and shapefile format). Quarter-mile cells of the land surface that include single or multiple wells were created by the USGS to illustrate the degree of exploration and the type and distribution of production for each assessment unit. Other data that are available in the map documents and services include the TPS and USGS province boundaries. To easily distribute the Gulf Coast maps and GIS data, a web mapping application has been developed by the USGS, and customized ArcMap (by ESRI) projects are available for download at the Energy Resources Science Center Gulf Coast website. ArcGIS Publisher (by ESRI) was used to create a published map file (pmf) from each ArcMap document (.mxd). The basemap services being used in the GC map applications are from ArcGIS Online Services (by ESRI), and include the following layers: -- Satellite imagery -- Shaded relief -- Transportation -- States -- Counties -- Cities -- National Forests With the ESRI_StreetMap_World_2D service, detailed data, such as railroads and airports, appear as the user zooms in at larger scales. This map service shows the structural configuration of the top of the Travis Peak or Hosston Formations in feet below sea level. The map was produced by calculating the difference between a datum at the land surface (either the Kelly bushing elevation or the ground surface elevation) and the reported depth of the Travis Peak or Hosston. This map service also shows the thickness of the interval from the top of the Travis Peak or Hosston Formations to the top of the Cotton Valley Group.

GRASS is a Geographic Information System (GIS) used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics/maps production, spatial modeling, and visualization. GRASS is used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as by many governmental agencies and environmental consulting companies. GRASS is official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation and available from the Internet as Open Source software. It runs on MS-Windows, Linux, MacOSX and other operating systems.
MassGIS is working very closely with the State 911 Department in the state’s Executive Office of Public Safety and Security on the Next Generation 911 Emergency Call System. MassGIS developed and is maintaining the map and address information that are at the heart of this new system. Statewide deployment of this new 9-1-1 call routing system was completed in 2018.Address sources include the Voter Registration List from the Secretary of the Commonwealth, site addresses from municipal departments (primarily assessors), and customer address lists from utilities. Addresses from utilities were “anonymized” to protect customer privacy. The MAD was also validated for completeness using the Emergency Service List (a list of telephone land line addresses) from Verizon.The MAD contains both tabular and spatial data, with addresses being mapped as point features. At present, the MAD contains 3.2 million address records and 2.2 million address points. As the database is very dynamic with changes being made daily, the data available for download will be refreshed weekly.A Statewide Addressing Standard for Municipalities is another useful asset that has been created as part of this ongoing project. It is a best practices guide for the creation and storage of addresses for Massachusetts Municipalities.Points features with each point having an address to the building/floor/unit level, when that information is available. Where more than one address is located at a single location multiple points are included (i.e. "stacked points"). The points for the most part represent building centroids. For Alabama, the data were compiled during 2006-2007. The currentness dates for the data ranges from 1977 to 2006. For Louisiana, these data were compiled during 2002-2003. The currentness dates for the data range from 1960 to 2001. This dataset contains a GIS database of Aids to Navigation in the Gulf of America and coastal waters of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. These data were compiled on 1999-10-21. The term "Aids to Navigation" (ATONS or AIDS) refers to a device outside of a vessel used to assist mariners in determining their position or safe course, or to warn them of obstructions. AIDS to navigation include lighthouses, lights, buoy, sound signals, landmarks, RACONs, radio beacons, LORAN, and omega. These include AIDS which are installed and maintained by the Coast Guard as well as privately installed and maintained aids (permit required). This does not include unofficial AIDS (illegal) such as stakes, PVC pipes, and such placed without permission. Each USCG District Headquarters is responsible for updating their database on an "as needed" basis. When existing AIDS are destroyed or relocated and new AIDS are installed the database is updated. Each AID is assigned an official "light listing number". The light list is a document listing the current status of ATONS and it is published and distributed on a regular basis. Interim changes to the light list are published in local Notices to Mariners which are the official means which navigators are supposed to keep their charts current. In addition, the USCG broadcasts Notices to Mariners on the marine band radio as soon as changes of the status of individual AIDS are reported. The light list number and local Notices to Mariners reports are suggested ways to keep the database current on a regular or even "real time" basis. However, annual (or more frequent) updates of the entire dataset may be obtained from each USCG District Headquarters. Geographic Information System (GIS) software is required to display the data in this NCEI accession.
