Database of Montana Counties created to be coincident with the Montana Cadastral Parcel Boundaries. Where county boundaries are coincident with public land survey section lines, they were copied from the BLM's Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB). If boundaries were not coincident with GCDB lines, they were digitized on screen from 1:24,000 scale Geological Survey Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs). County Boundaries will change as the CadNSDI is adjusted by the Montana State Library or the GCDB is adjusted by the BLM and those data are imported into the Cadastral Data Model.

Fire Protection Assessment (FPA) Data joined with Montana Cadastral Framework (Oct2023) for a Spatial Representation of Montana Fire Protection. Fire Protection Data is maintained by Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Fire Protection Bureau, Fire Assessment Protection Office. Cadastral parcel data is maintained by the MT Department of Revenue. Fire Assessment data is produced by joining MT Cadastral ParcelID and Fire Assessment Database Geocode. Fire Assessment Data available on the join includes parcel Geocode and if the parcel is protected by The Fire Protection Assessment Program. Fire Protection Assessment GIS Data is produced and distributed annually in the fall by the MT DNRC Fire Assessment Protection Program Manager. The FPA Layer represents Fire Protection for the entire year until the older layer is superseded by the next year's fall GIS layer production.

The Montana Department of Revenue (DOR) maintains the database of Tax Increment Financing Districts. Attribute information including levy districts and dates comes directly from them. The MSL acts as the point of contact on these boundaries for editing, schema changes, maintenance, web services and distribution. These boundaries were created based on the best available source data received from the Montana DOR or from the local governments: Legal Descriptions, GIS Files, Source Maps, or where data sources were not available the Montana Cadastral GIS Data was used. Digital data used as a base layer to create these boundary files were the best available source at the time: Cadastral (parcel lines), Geographic Coordination Data Base (GCDB)/ CadNSDI, National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) Imagery, and 1:24,000 USGS Topographic Maps. All of these base layers can be found at the following website for download: https://ftpgeoinfo.msl.mt.gov/Data/Spatial/MSDI/

The Montana Cadastral Framework shows the taxable parcels and tax-exempt parcels for most of Montana. Complete Metadata
The Montana Cadastral Database is comprised of taxable parcels (fee land) and public land (exempt property). It is not broken down into individual lots, for instance lots 4 & 5, Forest Grove Subdivision may comprise one taxable parcel and the Lot line between lots 4 & 5 is not contained in this database. The database encompasses all the area within Montana. At this time, the Data is in an ArcSde/Oracle geodatabase. Each county is available for download as a single ArcGIS personal geodatabase or shapefile. The data is maintained by the MT Department of Revenue (DOR) or in cases of Silver Bow, Cascade, Missoula, Lake, Flathead and Yellowstone counties that are maintained by the individual counties. The data is integrated by Montana State Library Geographic Information Services staff. Each parcel contains an attribute called ParcelID (geocode) that is the parcel identifier. It relates to the geocode in the DOR's Orion database (Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal data - CAMA). Most of the ancillary attribute information is held in this database. Information such as owner name, legal description, and appraised value as well as structural and agricultural data are available within CAMA. SQL Server Express 2000 R2 database files of individual county CAMA data are available for download at the project website listed above. In addition, a SQL Server Express database of selected attributes is available for the entire state. Parcel data is built upon the USDI Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB). The GCDB is a complex measurement management system that uses a least squares adjustment of existing survey data to come up with a digital representation of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). For more information on GCDB you should proceed to the Montana/North Dakota BLM website at http://www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/res/public_room/cadastral_survey/gcdb.html. Accuracy varies between townships and it is important to note that the accuracy of the parcel data can't be any more accurate than the GCDB.
Community Wildfire Protection Plans, or CWPPs, are a crucial planning document to prepare communities for wildfire. Creating and regularly updating a CWPP allows a community to: Influence how land is managed on federal and state lands for wildfire risk reduction, Identify and map wildfire hazards, Identify effective wildfire risk mitigation strategies, and Be eligible for certain nationally competitive grants.CWPPs and Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) GIS data were gathered from counties that completed a CWPP. WUI parcels were mapped using Montana Cadastral data and the various WUI categories or levels determined by individual counties. Some counties did not have a WUI mapped by their CWPP. DNRC worked with those counties individually to designate WUI parcels.CWPPs portray WUI boundaries using a variety of methods. Some counties consider nearly their entire county as some type of WUI, while others only recognize small buffers around certain communities. Other counties followed the 2003 Healthy Forest Restoration Act (HFRA) WUI boundaries quite closely, while others did not. Thirty-one counties designated only one category of WUI, while the remaining twenty-five counties designated multiple WUI levels; some of their categories included:Varying designations of areas of ‘Very High’, ‘High’, ’Moderate’ and ’Low' Risk or Hazard WUI (Lewis and Clark, Daniels, Sheridan, Roosevelt, Broadwater, Madison)Modified versions of the University of Wisconsin Silvis WUI Interface and Intermix WUI levels and Rural WUI areas (Blaine, Hill, and Phillips)Probability rankings of WUI occurrence (5-95%) based on structure density (Glacier, Pondera, Liberty, Judith Basin, Fergus, Petroleum, and Yellowstone)Four 1-mile wide WUI buffer zones (Deer Lodge, Granite, Powell, Jefferson and Butte-Silver Bow)Points (mostly structures or hazardous areas) designated by counties at ‘Extreme Hazard’, ‘High Hazard’ and/or ‘Moderate Hazard’ levels that were applied to parcel polygons (Musselshell, Treasure and Valley). For the thirty-one counties with just one WUI level, if the county WUI boundary intersects a parcel, the entire parcel was designated WUI. DNRC did not set a level at which parcels with a very small WUI percentage were excluded. Counties can re-adjust the boundaries to exclude parcels when they update their CWPP.For most counties with multiple WUI levels, WUI parcel levels were determined by the location of the parcel centroid. The exceptions include counties that used point data as their WUI and counties with no CWPP that DNRC assisted in WUI development. WUI parcel delineation was completed from January 2010 through December 2011. Since the cadastral data that the WUI parcels are based upon is updated regularly, the WUI parcels are out-of-date. There is no current plan to update WUI parcels. To view a completed CWPP, please visit: https://dnrc.mt.gov/Forestry/Community-Local-Government/community-wildfire-protection-plans

This data provides the integrated cadastral framework for the specified Canada Land. The cadastral framework consists of active and superseded cadastral parcel, roads, easements, administrative areas, active lines, points and annotations. The cadastral lines form the boundaries of the parcels. COGO attributes are associated to the lines and depict the adjusted framework of the cadastral fabric. The cadastral annotations consist of lot numbers, block numbers, township numbers, etc. The cadastral framework is compiled from Canada Lands Survey Records (CLSR), Registration Plans (RS) and Location Sketches (LS) archived in the Canada Lands Survey Records.
