Under the Municipal Government Act, the Minister has the authority to prescribe the type of information to be provided by a municipality to the Minister [s.451 (1(b)]. In Nova Scotia, the municipality is required to submit financial information to the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMAH) through the standard Financial Information Return (FIR). The Province then compiles an Annual Municipal Statistics Report based on the data municipalities provide.

This table contains figures on the expenditures and per task (policy area) according to region and size (in number of inhabitants) in millions of euros and in euros per inhabitant. The presented figures are based on data that adhere to the definitions and classifications that municipalities themselves use in their administration. These data are supplied to Statistics Netherlands through the questionnaire called Information for Third Parties (Iv3). The directives for this questionnaire have been laid down in the Directive for Budgeting and Accounting for provinces and municipalities (BBV). In 2017 the policy areas have been revised and these are now called tasks (before that they were called functions), and a direct comparison of the policy areas with earlier years is therefore no longer possible. In the administration of municipalities for the years 2017 and 2018 the classification of expenditures and revenues by task is sometimes revised, which could cause (small) shifts between tasks between the years 2017 and 2018.
Data available from: 2017
Status of the figures: The figures in this table are provisional at the time of first publication. The figures become definitive when figures for the following year are added to the series.
Changes as of 19 December 2024: The provisional figures for 2023 have been added. The figures for 2022 have been adjusted from provisional to definite.
When will new figures be published? The new figures are published 12 months after the reporting period. The figures can be adjusted on the basis of the availability of new or updated source material. In general, the adjustments are small. The adjustments are made the moment a new annual figure is added to the series.

The knowledge and quantification of the population subject of education, level of Basque, activity and mobility of people residing in the Basque Country as well as information on housing, requires various statistical sources. On the one hand, population counts have been carried out decennially through the Population and Housing Censuses, as well as by the Population and Housing Statistics in the intercensal period; on the other hand, through the various municipal statistics (municipal statistics of inhabitants, municipal statistics of housing, municipal statistics of education and municipal statistics of active population). In addition, using as main sources the administrative records of the Municipal Register of Inhabitants, the municipal demographic information and the different characteristics are renewed.

This table contains figures on the budgeted costs and benefits per task field (policy area) by region and size class in millions of euros and in euros per inhabitant. The figures presented are based on data that correspond to the definitions and classifications used by the municipalities themselves in their administration. This data is supplied to Statistics Netherlands via the Information for Third Parties survey (Iv3). The regulations for this survey are laid down in the Budget and Accountability Decree for Provincial and Municipalities (BBV) and the (ministerial) Regulation on the determination of task fields and the provision of information for third parties. Data available from: 2017 Status of the figures: The figures in this table are provisional at the time of their first publication. More preliminary figures will follow in May. The figures become final when figures for the following year are added to the series. Changes as of March 20, 2023: The provisional figures for 2023 have been included. The figures for 2022 are final. With effect from the 2023 budget year, a change in the booking regulations has been introduced that mainly affects the figures for the task fields Public Health, General Facilities incl. care 18+ and Escalated care 18-. For these task fields, a comparison with previous years is therefore difficult. The following adjustments to the booking regulations have been introduced: - From 2023, costs and benefits with regard to the Centers for Youth and Family must be booked with General services incl. neighborhood teams instead of Public Health - Costs and benefits with regard to tackling domestic violence and As of 2023, Safe Home access tasks must be booked under General provisions incl. from 2023 to housing and transport services must be booked with Custom Services (WMO) instead of Custom Services 18+ - Expenses and income related to the daytime provision under the WMO must be booked with Custom Services 18+ instead of Participation from 2023. - From 2023, costs and benefits related to the walk-in function of mental health care must be booked with Custom Services 18+ instead of Escalated Care 18+. Municipalities have also had to adjust their financial administration in connection with all these adjustments. With this adjustment, various municipalities have also transferred amounts from Escalated Care 18- to other task fields, in particular Custom Services 18-. When will new numbers come out? The provisional figures for the budget year in question and the final figures for the previous budget year are published in March of the budget year. Further provisional figures for the relevant budget year will be published in May. The figures can be adjusted based on the availability of new or updated source material. In general, the adjustments are minor. The adjustments in May are mainly due to the fact that municipalities that have been reclassified do not have to send their figures on municipal budgets to Statistics Netherlands until April of the same year. For the provisional figures, an additional estimate is made for these reclassified municipalities and any other non-response. The figures supplied by the reclassified municipalities have been incorporated into the more detailed provisional figures. Finally, when analyzing the municipal budgets, it is sometimes established that the municipality made a mistake in the delivery in the previous year. This has been corrected in the final figures. Due to changes in the source data, Information for third parties (Iv3), the data from the 2017 budget are not fully comparable with the data for previous years. More information about this can be found in paragraph 3 under 'relevant tables'.
