    Description

This dataset is comprised of boundary geometry for all of the incorporated municipalities and Northern Affairs Communities within the Province of Manitoba. The boundaries in this dataset represent the descriptions set forth in the Municipal Status and Boundaries Regulation (567/88R) and subsequent amendments, and regulations under The Northern Affairs Act. The geospatial referencing of the Municipal Boundaries is based on the best available land parcel data for each municipality and Northern Affairs Community. Where available, cadastral data based on registered survey plans was used. Otherwise, the Manitoba Property Assessment Information dataset produced by Manitoba Municipal Relations was used. The delineation of the boundaries was established according to the regulation establishing or amending the boundary of a municipality or Northern Affairs Community. Dataset content is subject to: Ongoing changes in municipal status and boundary and Northern Affairs Community boundary alterations that are generated through annexations, amalgamations, dissolutions or formations, all of which are approved by regulations made under The Municipal Act (for incorporated municipalities) and The Northern Affairs Act (for Northern Affairs Communities). This dataset content is current to the most recent effective date of any such regulation amendment. Ongoing development and maintenance of the land parcel datasets. Improvements to the cadastral data are used to improve the positional accuracy of the municipal boundary polygons. As of the publication date of this dataset the following known issues remain: For municipal boundaries and Northern Affairs Communities that include water boundaries, such as in the Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba areas the water boundary portion that best reflects the municipal boundary was used. In some instances, road allowances on a municipal boundary are included in both of the adjoining municipalities. Please visit the Manitoba Municipal Relations website for more information www.gov.mb.ca/mr/land_use_dev/index.html. The Manitoba Municipal Boundaries data reflects the status of municipal boundaries and Northern Affairs Communities at the time of export and was uploaded to Manitoba Maps as a feature layer. Fields Included: OBJECTID: Sequential unique whole numbers that are automatically generated MUNI_NO: Manitoba municipality identifier number MUNI_NAME: Legal name of municipality MUNI_TYPE: Type of municipality MUNI_LIST_NAME: Name of municipality suitable for alphabetical list MUNI_LIST_NAME_WITH_TYPE: Name of municipality suitable for alphabetical list including type

    Description

Incorporated Places are those reported to the Census Bureau as legally in existence as of January 1, 2019, under the laws of their respective states. An incorporated place provides governmental functions for a concentration of people, as opposed to a minor civil division (MCD), which generally provides services or administers an area without regard, necessarily, to population. An incorporated place usually is a city, town, village, or borough, but can have other legal descriptions.CDPs are the statistical counterparts of incorporated places. CDPs are settled concentrations of population that are identifiable by name but not legally incorporated under the laws of the state in which the CDPs are located. The Census Bureau defines CDP boundaries in cooperation with local partners as part of the PSAP. CDP boundaries usually coincide with visible features or the boundary of an adjacent Incorporated Place or another legal entity boundary. CDPs have no legal status and do not have officials elected to serve traditional municipal functions. CDP boundaries may change from one decennial census to the next with changes in the settlement pattern; a CDP with the same name as in an earlier census does not necessarily have the same boundary.

A vector polygon layer of all city and town boundaries in New York State. The source data was originally a compilation of U.S. Geological Survey 1:100,000-scale digital vector files and NYS Department of Transportation 1:24,000-scale and 1:75,000-scale digital vector files. Boundaries were revised to 1:24,000-scale positional accuracy and selectively updated based on municipal boundary reviews, court decisions and NYS Department of State Local Law filings for annexations, dissolutions, and incorporations. Currently, boundary changes are made based on NYS Department of State Local Law filings (http://locallaws.dos.ny.gov/). Additional updates and corrections are made as needed in partnership with municipalities.

    Description

The CT Municipalities layer consists of individual polygons representing each of the 169 municipalities that make up the state of Connecticut. This feature class is based on the Towns layer originally created by CTDEEP from USGS maps. The towns from the CTDEEP data were dissolved to create 169 records (one for each town). Fields were added and deleted to create a generic schema.

The CT Municipalities feature class was created in (municipality) alphabetical order. Fields were added to identify the municipality number and the CTDOT Municipality number, which differ from each other in some cases. In 1947 the town of Saybrook officially changed its name to Deep River. Other State agencies and municipalities changed their numbering systems to reflect this name change, however, most of what is now CTDOT kept their existing numbering system. This is why the CTDOT town number for Deep River is 122, the number formerly assigned to Saybrook.

The square miles associated with each town are for their interior land mass area. Coastal communities have boundaries that extend into Long Island Sound. These town boundary extensions into Long Island Sound are not included in the square miles field.

CTDOT has created and will maintain a cartographic rendering of the geometric shape of Municipal boundaries. Official Town and City designations as incorporated areas consisting of an authorized governing body are managed by CT's Office of Policy and Management (OPM).

CTDOT has undertaken a good faith effort to represent the boundaries cartographically in a fair and equitable fashion, from the best available data compiled from existing state, regional, and local resources including - existing historical cartographic renderings of the boundary locations, supplemental survey information, and map submissions. Corrections can be submitted to the CTDOT for incorporation and correction where applicable.

Attribution was assigned to designations managed by a variety of entities that strictly follow Municipal boundaries and additional designations will be added as requested by State, regional, and local partners.

This service provides visual representation of North Carolina Municipal Boundaries defined through the 2021-2022 Powell Bill. This service was created to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS). Municipal boundaries are recognized as a base cartographic layer for location analysis. This data is current for the fiscal year 2021 - 2022. Municipal boundaries updated this year were based on towns that reported annexation changes to the NC Office of Secretary of State. This may not be representative of all towns with boundary changes this year. The Municipal Boundaries service is based on the Powell Bill Program maps for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. Municipalities in North Carolina participating in the Powell Bill Program are required to submit to NCDOT on a regular basis. These datasets include incorporated municipalities in North Carolina that participate in the Powell Bill Program. Boundaries of municipalities which do not participate in the Powell Bill Program are also included in this data. Description

The political boundary datalayer is a polygon representation of town boundaries created from arcs developed from survey coordinates extracted from the 68-volume Harbor and Lands Commission Town Boundary Atlas for the 351 communities (cities and towns) in Massachusetts. The Atlas was published in the early 1900's and is maintained by the Survey Section of Massachusetts Highway Department. For communities with a coastal boundary, MassGIS has collaborated with Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and the Department of Environmental Protection to complete a 1:12000 scale coastline. The boundary for the coastline was defined as being the upland side of tidal flats and rocky inter-tidal zones. Note that the 351 communities are the official municipal names, not including "villages" or other sections of towns. This datalayer was created for the purposes of providing an up-to-date polygon version of the town boundaries for the 351 cities and towns of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The legislative intent for some boundaries could not be mapped. Boundaries where that is true are identified in the attribute information. This layer contains multi-part polygons, one for each municipality. The coastline on this layer has been generalized for small-scale cartography and faster display in web map services.See the layer metadata for details.
