    Cette statistique présente le classement des pays aux taux d'homicide* les plus élevés à travers le monde en 2022, pour 100.000 habitants. La Jamaïque figure en tête du classement, avec 53 morts intentionnelles pour 100.000 habitants en 2022. Saint-Vincent et les Grenadines, ainsi que Trinité-et-Tobago affichaient également des taux élevés. Motivations du passage à l’acte Les circonstances du passage à l’acte sont multiples. Aux Etats-Unis, les conflits liés aux trafics de drogue, les vols et les guerres de gang étaient en 2022 les principales causes d’homicide volontaire dans le pays, ôtant la vie à plus de 1.400 personnes. Les convictions personnelles, telles que l’engagement environnemental, l’orientation sexuelle et la haine des transgenres sont également, dans certaines régions du monde, des motifs souvent évoqués lors d’un meurtre, notamment en Amérique latine. Pour comparaison, après une chute de 100 cas d’homicide volontaire de 2016 à 2017 en France, ceux-ci sont repartis à la hausse avec plus de 1.000 meurtres enregistrés en 2021 ; ont été recensés près de 140 cas d’homicide conjugal, ainsi que 52 décès liés à une intervention policière. Si des pays comme la Jamaïque avaient le taux de meurtre le plus élevé à travers le monde en 2022, il est intéressant de noter que ce taux n’est pas corrélé aux pays aux taux de mortalité les plus élevés. Entre autres, le taux d’homicide ne prend pas en compte les victimes d’homicides liés aux guerres et aux conflits violents, comme en Afghanistan ou en Syrie. La protection de la vie humaine devient alors d’autant plus délicate que le climat mondial actuel se tend sous les pressions géopolitiques multiples. Guerres et pressions géopolitiques Les estimations de janvier 2024 de l’indice de risque géopolitique ont révélé une hausse conséquente de cet indice, passant invariablement au-dessus du seuil de 100 depuis début 2022. Et pour cause : les conflits armés interétatiques font partie des plus grands risques auxquels le monde fait face actuellement. L’invasion russe en Ukraine débutée en février 2022, qui divise le monde entre les membres de l’OTAN, la Russie et les pays neutres, en est une confirmation. Cette guerre n’épargne pas les civils, avec plus de 30.000 morts et blessés ukrainiens décomptés en janvier 2024. Si près d’un tiers de la population mondiale habite un pays neutre quant à la guerre en Ukraine, une majorité de pays s’arme cependant : les dépenses militaires mondiales ont nettement augmenté depuis 2016, passant de 1.785 milliards de dollars à 2.240 milliards de dollars en 2022. La France ne fait pas exception à cette tendance. Avec un budget militaire de 30 milliards d’euros en 2017, l’Hexagone devrait atteindre les 60 milliards en 2030. Cette augmentation générale des dépenses militaires est la traduction du climat délétère qui tend les relations internationales : plus que la guerre en Ukraine, la guerre Israël-Hamas, les incidents en mer de Chine, ainsi que les tirs de missiles répétés de la Corée du Nord exacerbent, eux-aussi, les tensions et les craintes.
