    Description

The USGS NAIP Imagery service from The National Map consists of 4-band high resolution images that combine the visual attributes of an aerial photograph with the spatial accuracy and reliability of a map. Resolution of National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) data is most commonly 1 meter, which means that every pixel in the digital orthoimage covers a one meter square of the earth’s surface. Some states to include Wyoming and New York began collection of 0.5 meter pixel resolution NAIP in 2015. Many states contribute orthoimagery to The National Map, and USGS relies on a partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency for NAIP data. The USGS NAIP Imagery service is a mosaic of natural color and color infrared (4-band) aerial imagery, containing NAIP and other imagery sources to complete the mosaic. The National Map download client allows free downloads of public domain compressed orthoimagery in JPEG 2000 (.jp2) format for the conterminous United States, with many urban areas and other locations at 1-foot (or better) resolution, also in JPEG 2000 (.jp2) format. For additional information on orthoimagery, go to https://nationalmap.gov/ortho.html. This imagery service is for viewing only, no downloading of the raster images available. Description

This Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) imagery layer features recent high-resolution (1m or better) aerial imagery for the continental United States, made available by the USDA Farm Services Agency. The National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) acquires aerial imagery during the agricultural growing seasons in the continental United States. Approximately half of the US is collected each year and each state is typically collected every other year. This imagery layer is updated annually as new imagery is made available. The NAIP program aims to make the imagery available to governmental agencies and to the public within a year of collection. The imagery is published in 4-bands (Red, Green, Blue, and Near Infrared) where available. Additional NAIP renderings include Natural Color and Color Infrared. This layer currently includes NAIP imagery from 2010 through 2023. You can discover and access other maps and layers available for NAIP through the Living Atlas of the World and through the NAIP Imagery group. All imagery in this layer is sourced from the NAIP Registry of Open Data on AWS.

    Description

This dataset contains high-resolution aerial imagery from the USDA NAIP program [1], high-resolution land cover labels from the Chesapeake Conservancy, low-resolution land cover labels from the USGS NLCD 2011 dataset, low-resolution multi-spectral imagery from Landsat 8, and high-resolution building footprint masks from Microsoft Bing, formatted to accelerate machine learning research into land cover mapping. The Chesapeake Conservancy spent over 10 months and $1.3 million creating a consistent six-class land cover dataset covering the Chesapeake Bay watershed. While the purpose of the mapping effort by the Chesapeake Conservancy was to create land cover data to be used in conservation efforts, the same data can be used to train machine learning models that can be applied over even wider areas. The organization of this dataset (detailed below) will allow users to easily test questions related to this problem of geographic generalization, i.e. how to train machine learning models that can be applied over even wider areas. For example, this dataset can be used to directly estimate how well a model trained on data from Maryland can generalize over the remainder of the Chesapeake Bay.

This is an ArcGIS Server Image Service of the 4-band 2011 National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) orthorectified digital aerial photos of Montana. The one-meter ground sample distance (GSD) ortho images were rectified to a horizontal accuracy that matches within six meters of photo-identifiable ground control points, which are used during image inspection. NAIP imagery may contain as much as 10% cloud cover per tile. The data were created for the U.S. Farm Services Agency National Agricultural Imagery Program (https://www.fsa.usda.gov/programs-and-services/aerial-photography/index) by Surdex Corporation. A version of the data in Montana State Plane Coordinates (NAD83 High Accuracy Reference Network, meters) was provided to the State Library as a collection of seamless 4-band GeoTIFF images. The web services available include: ArcGIS Server Image services, Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) web coverage services (WCS), and OGC web map services (WMS). The image and web coverage services provide users direct access to the native GeoTIFF files and pixel data for geoprocessing and image analysis. The original GeoTIFF files are available by request from the State Library. An Esri shapefile of the dates the images were collected is available at https://ftpgeoinfo.msl.mt.gov/Data/Spatial/MSDI/Imagery/2011_NAIP/24_km_tiles/00_NAIP_2011_Dates.zip Imagery defaults to natural color. Description

Assessing the physical change to shorelines and wetlands is critical in determining the resiliency of wetland systems that protect adjacent habitat and communities. The wetland and back-barrier shorelines of Assateague Island, located in Maryland and Virginia, changed as a result of wave action and storm surge that occurred during Hurricane Sandy, which made landfall on October 29, 2012. The impact of Hurricane Sandy will be assessed and placed in its historical context to understand the future vulnerability of wetland systems. Making these assessments will rely on data extracted from current and historical resources such as maps, aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and lidar elevation data, which document physical changes over time. This USGS Data Series publication includes several open-ocean shorelines, back-island shorelines, back-island shoreline points, sand area polygons, and sand lines for Assateague Island that were extracted from orthoimagery (orthoaerial photography) dated from April 12, 1989 to September 5, 2013. This dataset consists of points that were digitized at the intersection of the back-island shoreline and a set of transects spaced at 20 meter (m) intervals. The transects, asis_transects_ln_20m_utm18.shp, are included in this Data Series publication and can be accessed via the Data Download page. Only one back-island shoreline/transect intersection point was digitized per transect. Orthoimagery of Assateague Island were acquired in digital format from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN) courtesy of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The following list provides additional details about the orthoimagery used. The back-island shoreline points for all dates have been compiled into one dataset (shapefile) named asis_bshrln_1989_2013_transect_guided.shp. Description

Tree canopy digitized from aerial images using a supervised image classification method. Aerial images were flown over Austin, TX in 2014 during the "leaf-on" agricultural growing season and are sourced from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP). Data are updated every 4 years and each update is provided as a separate dataset. For historical data, search for tree canopy 2006, 2010, and 2018. The NAIP imagery resolution for 2014 is 1m (~3.3 feet). This is 4-band imagery (Red, Green, Blue, and Infrared bands) available in both true color and color-infrared. Tree canopy data is provided in both raster and vector GIS formats housed in a Geodatabase. Download and unzip the folder to get started. Please note, errors may exist in this dataset due to the variation in species composition and land use found across the study area. This product is for informational purposes and may not have been prepared for or be suitable for legal, engineering, or surveying purposes. It does not represent an on-the-ground survey and represents only the approximate relative location of property boundaries. Updated December, 2024HUMAN CONFLICT: Areas where Mountain Lions have been involved in incidents (conflict with humans that may have serious results), an attack on a human, predation on domestic pets, or depredation on livestock held in close proximity to human habitation. OVERALL RANGE: The area that encompasses all known activity areas within the observed range of a population of Mountain Lion. PERIPHERAL RANGE: An area of Mountain Lion overall range where habitat is limited and populations are isolated. Population density may be lower than in the central part of their range. This information was derived from Colorado Parks and Wildlife field personnel. Data was captured by digitizing through a SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard using topographic maps and NAIP imagery at various scales (Cowardin, M., M. Flenner. March 2003. Maximizing Mapping Resources. GeoWorld 16(3):32-35). These data are updated on a four year rotation with one of the four Colorado Parks and Wildlife Regions updated each year. These data are not updated on a statewide level annually.
