    Revision note

Employment data has been revised since publication.

November 2024: For DCMS sector data, please see: Economic Estimates: Employment and APS earnings in DCMS sectors, January 2023 to December 2023

For Digital sector data, please see: Economic Estimates: Employment in DCMS sectors and Digital sector, January 2022 to December 2022

October 2024: Following the identification of a minor error, the Labour Force Survey, July to September 2016 to 2020 data tables have been re-published for the digital sector. This affects data for 2019 only - data for 2016 and 2020 are not affected.

Updated estimates for DCMS sectors have been re-published.

Economic Estimates: Employment in DCMS sectors, April 2022 to March 2024.

Although the original versions of the tables were published before the Machinery of Government changes in February 2023, these corrected tables have been re-published for DCMS sectors and the digital sector separately. This is because the digital sector is now a Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) responsibility.

    About

The Economic Estimates in this release are a combination of National, Official, and experimental statistics used to provide an estimate of the contribution of DCMS Sectors to the UK economy.

    Content

These statistics cover the economic contribution of the following DCMS sectors to the UK economy:

    • Creative Industries
    • Cultural Sector
    • Digital Sector
    • Gambling
    • Sport
    • Telecoms

Tourism and Civil Society are included where possible.

Users should note that there is overlap between DCMS sector definitions and that the Telecoms sector sits wholly within the Digital sector.

The release also includes estimates for the Audio Visual sector and Computer Games sector for some measures.

A definition for each sector is available in the associated methodology note along with details of methods and data limitations.

Following updates to the underlying methodology used to produce the estimates for Weekly Gross Pay, Annual Gross Pay and the Gender Pay Gap, we have published revised estimates for employee earnings in the DCMS Sectors and Digital Sector from 2016 to 2020.

We’ve published revised estimates for Weekly Gross Pay, Annual Gross Pay and the Gender Pay Gap. This was necessary for a number of reasons, including:

    • the creation of the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and the change to DCMS’s remit
    • necessary updates to bring the estimates in line with Office for National Statistics (ONS) methodology
    • to update 2020 Tourism estimates according to the latest Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) estimates
    • to correct minor errors

    Released

These statistics were first published on 23 December 2021

DCMS aims to continuously improve the quality of estimates and better meet user needs. DCMS welcomes feedback on this release. Feedback should be sent to DCMS via email at evidence@dcms.gov.uk.

    Description

Hydrographic and Impairment Statistics (HIS) is a National Park Service (NPS) Water Resources Division (WRD) project established to track certain goals created in response to the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993 (GPRA). One water resources management goal established by the Department of the Interior under GRPA requires NPS to track the percent of its managed surface waters that are meeting Clean Water Act (CWA) water quality standards. This goal requires an accurate inventory that spatially quantifies the surface water hydrography that each bureau manages and a procedure to determine and track which waterbodies are or are not meeting water quality standards as outlined by Section 303(d) of the CWA. This project helps meet this DOI GRPA goal by inventorying and monitoring in a geographic information system for the NPS: (1) CWA 303(d) quality impaired waters and causes; and (2) hydrographic statistics based on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). Hydrographic and 303(d) impairment statistics were evaluated based on a combination of 1:24,000 (NHD) and finer scale data (frequently provided by state GIS layers).

    Description

This table contains information on the finances of the general government sector. The terms and definitions used are in accordance with the framework of the National Accounts. The National Accounts are based on the international definitions of the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). Small temporary differences with publications of the National Accounts may occur due to the fact that the government finance statistics are sometimes more up to date.

Data available from: Yearly figures from 1995, quarterly figures from 1999.

Status of the figures: The figures for the period 1995-2022 are final. The quarterly figures for 2023 are provisional. The annual figures for 2023 are final. The figures for 2024 and 2025 are provisional.

Changes as of 23 September 2025: The figures for the second quarter of 2025 are available. The figures for the first of quarter 2025 are revised. (Seasonal adjusted) government revenue, (seasonal adjusted) government expenditure and (seasonal adjusted) balance of general government have been adjusted.

Changes as of 10 April 2025: Due to an error made while processing the data, the initial preliminary figures for government expenditure in 2024 were calculated incorrectly, which means that the figure published for the general government balance was also incorrect. It concerns a decrease in government expenditure. Therefore, the general government balance is 2.3 billion euros higher than originally reported. This means the government deficit is equivalent to 0.9 percent of GDP, rather than the 1.1 percent published previously. (Seasonal adjusted) government revenue, (seasonal adjusted) government expenditure and (seasonal adjusted) balance of general government have been adjusted.

When will new figures be published? Initial quarterly figures are published three months after the end of the quarter. In September the figures on the first quarter are revised, in December the figures on the second quarter are revised and in March the first three quarters are revised. Yearly figures are published for the first time three months after the end of the year concerned. Yearly figures are revised two times: 6 and 18 months after the end of the year. Please note that there is a possibility that adjustments might take place at the end of March or September, in order to provide the European Commission with the latest figures. Revised yearly figures are published in June each year. Quarterly figures are aligned to revised years at the end of June. More information on the revision policy of National Accounts can be found under 'relevant articles' under paragraph 3.

Two variables can be selected at once (for example property age and property type), with mean, median or number of observations shown in the table. There is also a choice of fuel (electricity or gas). The data spans 2007 to 2019.

Figures provided in the latest version of the tool (June 2021) are based on data used in the June 2021 National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework (NEED) publication. More information on the development of the framework, headline results and data quality are available in the publication. There are also additional detailed tables including distributions of consumption and estimates at local authority level. The data are also available as a comma separated value (csv) file.

Error notice: revisions to the June 2021 Domestic NEED annual report

We identified 2 processing errors in this edition of the Domestic NEED Annual report and corrected them. The changes are small and do not affect the overall findings of the report, only the domestic energy consumption estimates. The impact of energy efficiency measures analysis remains unchanged. The revisions are summarised on the Domestic NEED Report 2021 release page.

Data comes from surveys run by Defra and the Office for National Statistics and from a wide range of other sources including government departments, agencies and commercial organisations.

The full publication is available here: Food statistics pocketbook

Associated datasets from this publication are also available. Data are a mixture of National Statistics, Official Statistics and unofficial statistics. Unofficial statistics are used where there are gaps in the evidence base. Where National Statistics are used this is indicated. Description

The National Parks dataset is frequently updated by the National Park Service (NPS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). This dataset depicts National Park Service boundary data that was created by the Land Resources Division. NPS Director's Order #25 states: "Land status maps will be prepared to identify the ownership of the lands within the authorized boundaries of the park unit. These maps, showing ownership and acreage, are the 'official record' of the acreage of Federal and non-federal lands within the park boundaries. While these maps are the official record of the lands and acreage within the unit's authorized boundaries, they are not of survey quality and not intended to be used for survey purposes." As such this data is intended for use as a tool for GIS analysis. It is in no way intended for engineering or legal purposes.
