This dataset shows the student headcount for each individual NSW government school since 2004.
Data Notes:
National Schools Statistics Collection (NSSC) enrolments collected as at the first Friday in August every year.
All NSSC enrolments are headcount figures for NSW government schools only.
Where a school had 5 or fewer students, the figure has been suppressed. A null figure indicates no enrolments were collected for NSSC in the given calendar year.

Data Notes:
Data is derived from the National Schools Statistics Collection (NSSC), which is managed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Enrolments are full-time equivalent (FTE). For the purposes of reporting, only students in Year 11 and 12 may be part-time. Hence there is no difference between "full-time" and "full-time equivalent" enrolments for K-10 or ungraded in NSW government schools.
Ungraded students are students who are not assigned to a particular grade. These students are often enrolled in support classes or schools for specific purposes (SSPs)
If a school has FTE enrolments greater than 5 for all its grades, then the grade-level FTE data is published.
If a schools has FTE enrolments equal to or less than 5, the grade-level FTE data is suppressed and school level FTE data is only published. Where only one grade at a school had a value of <=5, the ungraded cell has also been suppressed for privacy reasons. Where there are no ungraded students, the grade with the next lowest total is also suppressed.

Full-time equivalent (FTE) enrolments by individual NSW government schools and calendar year (2010-2016). This dataset has been spatialised using each school's latitude and longitude from the NSW Government Department of Education's government schools Master Dataset (https://data.cese.nsw.gov.au/data/dataset/nsw-public-schools-master-dataset). Data Notes:
Data is collected mid-year (census date: first Friday in August) from NSW government schools as per National Schools Statistics Collection (NSSC).
From 2020, students in mainstream support classes are reported by their underlying grade of enrolment. Previously, students in support classes in mainstream schools were not included.
Students in schools for specific purposes (SSPs) are not included.
Students in distance education and Intensive English Centres are included with their appropriate grade levels.
OC classes are not included in secondary students. IEC students are included.
In most scholastic years there are a small number of students in atypical age groups. For students under 18 years, these have been included in the nearest band. This is indicated with an asterisk. As a result, the sum of each row may not equal the totals reported. See relevant tables in Statistical Bulletin for more details.

The master dataset contains comprehensive information for all government schools in NSW. Data items include school locations, latitude and longitude coordinates, school type, student enrolment numbers, electorate information, contact details and more. Please note the following: Student enrolment numbers are based on the census of government school students undertaken on the first Friday of August 2017.
For more information visit the NSW Education Data Hub.
Please Note:
AURIN has spatially enabled the original data.
School information, such as addresses and contact details, are updated regularly as required, and are the most current source of information.
Data is suppressed for indigenous and language backgrounds other than English (LBOTE) percentages where student numbers are equal to, or less than five.
National Schools Collection (NSSC) out of scope schools will not have an enrolment figure.
NSSC and LBOTE figures are updated annually in March.
Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) values are updated every April with the previous year's ICSEA values. The master dataset is currently displaying 2016 figures. Small schools, Schools for Specific Purposes (SSPs) and Senior Secondary schools do not have their ICSEA values published by The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).
Following the introduction of part-time study in secondary schools in 1993, student enrolments are generally reported in full-time equivalent units (FTE). The FTE for students studying less than 10 units, the minimum workload, is determined by the formula: 0.1 x the number of units studied and represented as a proportion of the full-time enrolment of 1.0 FTE.
Norfolk Island Central School (NICS) is not a NSW government school. NICS is operated by the Australian government. The NSW Department of Education provides school education services under an agreement with the Australian government.

Data excludes support students.
Students in Years 11 or 12 can enrol to study as a part-time or full-time student. For the annual census, a part-time student is enrolled in less than 10 units, regardless of where those units are studied. All Kindergarten to Year 10 students are considered to be full-time.

The Higher School Certificate is the highest educational award in secondary education in NSW. It is awarded to students who have satisfactorily completed Years 11 and 12 at secondary school. To be eligible, students must meet HSC course requirements and sit for the statewide HSC examinations.
Notes:
Prior to 2016, this dataset used data from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). From 2016 onwards, data presented is based on Aboriginal status reported in the National Schools Statistics Collection (NSSC) conducted each August.
HSC Record of Achievement includes those students awarded the HSC and who have completed one or more HSC courses but have not yet been awarded the HSC.
HSC Record of Achievement includes students who participated in HSC pathways.
HSC pathways offer a flexible program for students to complete the HSC over a period of up to five years. The pathways provisions include accumulating courses, repeating courses, acceleration, recognition of prior learning, and combining study with part-time traineeships or apprenticeships.
Bradfield college is included.
Data derived from NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) data, provided in February each year.
