This boundary is equivalent to the type of boundary that is displayed on park brochure maps. These polygons do NOT represent the legal the boundary. For issues regarding land ownership and official boundaries, contact the National Capital Region Land Resources Program Center using the contact form. The National Capital Region NPS jurisdictional boundaries data is available on the National Capital Region NPS OpenData site, along with other NCR-specific NPS datasets. Description

This polygon dataset represents the jurisdictional park boundaries for the National Park Service (NPS) units in the National Capital Region. The polygons represent the land the is owned and managed by the NPS including which NPS administrative unit manages it. This boundary is equivalent to the type of boundary that is displayed on park brochure maps. This boundary data takes into consider Transfers of Jurisdiction so that land which has been transferred to another federal agency, including the District of Columbia government, does not appear as being NPS land. The NPS has no authority, interest, or jurisdiction over transferred land. Although the legal mechanism is different from a sale or disposal, the functional result is the same; it is no longer National Park Service land. This boundary identifies the NPS unit that administers and manages the land, not the legislated unit by which it was acquired by the NPS. This allows the user the identify which NPS unit manages the facilities, maintains the resources, which NPS.gov website provides information about it, and which superintendent is the steward of it.This data is available on the NPS Data Store, part of the Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) Portal: Park Management (Jurisdictional) Boundaries, National Capital Region NPS (IRMA ID 2305168). It's also linked to in the Regional Datasets (Spatial Basedata), National Capital Region, National Park Service on IRMA (IRMA ID 2305197).The Land Resources Division manages the NPS boundary data related to land acquisition and realty activities. They publish and maintain several datasets related to NPS boundaries which are identified as authoritative. They provide different information than is provided in this dataset. Please keep in mind the intended use of the data when choosing the dataset to use.For the legislated unit boundaries, see National Park Service Land Resources Division Tract and Boundary Service feature layer. That dataset includes three layers. The legislated boundary (nps_boundary) is the extent the NPS can acquire without needing additional legislation. These boundaries include land not owned by the NPS. It’s dissolved by legislated unit. The legislated boundary centroids (nps_boundary_centroids) are autogenerated points from the legislated boundary. The tracts boundaries (nps_tracts) are polygons representing individual tracts (similar to parcels) that comprise the legislated boundary. These tracts identify the land status, but do not identify Transfers of Jurisdiction. For the fee boundaries, see the NPS Fee Boundaries feature layer. This is the conglomeration of tracts list as “NPS FEE” in the nps_tracts layer. It does not take into consider Transfers of Jurisdiction, so includes non-NPS land in the District of Columbia.

    Description

This dataset contains 342 National Park System unit boundaries. Under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service (NPS), these park units are located throughout the United States (U.S.) and its territories. Almost all the parks are located north of the equator in the western hemisphere; although a couple parks are south of the equator or in the eastern hemisphere. The dataset was compiled (and edited) from a variety sources: park-based GIS databases; U.S. Geological Survey 7.5' 1:24,000 quadrangles; NPS Park Land Status Maps; legal descriptions; etc.). The boundaries are in Latitude-Longitude (Clarke 1866-NAD27) decimal degrees. The ID_ field contains the unique 4 character park code identifying each park. The NAME1_ field contains the full park name. The NAME2_ field contains information about the source, scale, and date of the boundary. The boundaries are generally the designated boundary. Inholdings may or may not be shown depending on the park. This dataset was originally created in Environmental System's Research Institute's (ESRI) ATLAS*GIS software and is currently maintained in this software. This version of the dataset was created using ESRI's ArcTools 8.0.2 Import to ShapeFile from .AGF file command, ShapeFile to Coverage command, and then Export to Interchange File. To obtain the most accurate, current boundary, users should contact the specific parkField Definitions:For field definitions contact the National Parks Service

U.S. Reservations are lands acquired for use by the Federal Government after the original founding of the city. These were all acquired by the Federal Government through purchase, condemnation, dedication or gift and almost all of the U.S. Reservations in Washington are under the Jurisdiction of the National Park Service. Unlike Appropriations, U.S. Reservations are found throughout the city. The National Park Service also has information for every U.S. Reservation and Appropriation in addition to DCRA Office of the Surveyor having some detailed information on transactional history. It should be noted that RPTA has converted some reservations to tax lots for land tracking purposes however the federal government still maintains ownership in many of these cases.

    Description

description: The Cape Canaveral Coastal System (CCCS) is a prominent feature along the Southeast U.S. coastline and is the only large cape south of Cape Fear, North Carolina. Most of the CCCS lies within the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and included in its boundaries are the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), NASA s Kennedy Space Center (KSC), and a large portion of Canaveral National Seashore. The actual promontory of the modern cape falls within the jurisdictional boundaries of the CCAFS. These various agencies have ongoing concerns related to erosion hazards and vulnerability of the system including critical infrastructure, habitats, and recreational and cultural resources. The USGS conducted a bathymetric mapping survey August 18-20, 2014, in the Atlantic Ocean offshore of Cape Canaveral, Florida (USGS Field Activity Number 2014-324-FA). The study area covered an area extending south from Port Canaveral, Florida, to the northern end of the KSC property and from the shoreline to about 2.5 km offshore. Bathymetric data were collected with single-beam sonar- and lidar-based systems. Two jet skis and a 17-ft outboard motor boat equipped with the USGS SANDS hydrographic system collected precision sonar data. The sonar operations were conducted in three missions, one on each day, with the boat and jet skis operating concurrently. The USGS airborne EAARL-B mapping system flown in a twin engine plane was used to collect lidar data. The lidar operations were conducted in three missions, one in the afternoon of August 19, 2015, and two more in the morning and afternoon of August 20, 2014. The missions were synchronized such that there was some temporal and spatial overlap between the sonar and lidar operations. Additional data were collected to evaluate the actual water clarity corresponding to lidar's ability to receive bathymetric returns. This dataset serves as an archive of processed single-beam and lidar bathymetry data collected at Cape Canaveral, Florida, in 2014 (in XYZ comma delimited, ASCII and shapefile format). Also included in this archive are Geographic Information System (GIS) data products: gridded map data (in ESRI binary and ASCII grid format), and a color-coded bathymetry map (in PDF format).; abstract: The Cape Canaveral Coastal System (CCCS) is a prominent feature along the Southeast U.S. coastline and is the only large cape south of Cape Fear, North Carolina.
