    Description

    Background:

Each year, the Virginia Department of Education collects statistics on the number of students enrolled in public school on September 30th. This report is submitted by each school in Virginia which officially enrolls students (i.e. student records are maintained on a Virginia Teacher's Register or automated system). Student counts are reported by grade assignment and ethnicity. Excluded from the September 30 count are Special education preschool pupils, pupils in hospitals, clinics or detention homes, and local programs such as vocational and alternative education centers (i.e., centers or schools which receive, but do not officially enroll students).

    Definitions:

The following abbreviations are used in the Fall Membership reports:

PK - Pre-Kindergarten JK - Junior Kindergarten KG - Kindergarten T1 - Transitional First Grade PG - Post Graduate

    Description

Summary File 4 (SF 4) from the United States 2000 Census contains the sample data, which is the information compiled from the questions asked of a sample of all people and housing units. Population items include basic population totals: urban and rural, households and families, marital status, grandparents as caregivers, language and ability to speak English, ancestry, place of birth, citizenship status, year of entry, migration, place of work, journey to work (commuting), school enrollment and educational attainment, veteran status, disability, employment status, industry, occupation, class of worker, income, and poverty status. Housing items include basic housing totals: urban and rural, number of rooms, number of bedrooms, year moved into unit, household size and occupants per room, units in structure, year structure built, heating fuel, telephone service, plumbing and kitchen facilities, vehicles available, value of home, monthly rent, and shelter costs. In Summary File 4, the sample data are presented in 213 population tables (matrices) and 110 housing tables, identified with 'PCT' and 'HCT' respectively. Each table is iterated for 336 population groups: the total population, 132 race groups, 78 American Indian and Alaska Native tribe categories (reflecting 39 individual tribes), 39 Hispanic or Latino groups, and 86 ancestry groups. The presentation of SF4 tables for any of the 336 population groups is subject to a population threshold. That is, if there are fewer than 100 people (100-percent count) in a specific population group in a specific geographic area, and there are fewer than 50 unweighted cases, their population and housing characteristics data are not available for that geographic area in SF4. For the ancestry iterations, only the 50 unweighted cases test can be performed. See Appendix H: Characteristic Iterations, for a complete list of characteristic iterations.

    Description

Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander women had the highest fertility rate of any ethnicity in the United States in 2022, with about 2,237.5 births per 1,000 women. The fertility rate for all ethnicities in the U.S. was 1,656.5 births per 1,000 women. What is the total fertility rate? The total fertility rate is an estimation of the number of children who would theoretically be born per 1,000 women through their childbearing years (generally considered to be between the ages of 15 and 44) according to age-specific fertility rates. The fertility rate is different from the birth rate, in that the birth rate is the number of births in relation to the population over a specific period of time. Fertility rates around the world Fertility rates around the world differ on a country-by-country basis, and more industrialized countries tend to see lower fertility rates. For example, Niger topped the list of the countries with the highest fertility rates, and Taiwan had the lowest fertility rate.

    Description

VDOE annually collects statistics on the number of students enrolled in public school on September 30th. This report is submitted by each school in Virginia that officially enrolls students (i.e. student records are maintained on a Virginia teacher's register or automated system). Student counts are reported by grade assignment and ethnicity. Excluded from the September 30 count are special education preschool pupils, pupils in hospitals, clinics or detention homes and local programs such as vocational and alternative education centers (i.e., centers or schools which receive, but do not officially enroll students).

The six racial/ethnic categories are as follows: Unspecified A person who cannot be classified according to the definitions of any of the six racial/ethnic categories.
