This survey charted Finnish ninth-graders' connectedness to nature. The data for this dataset were collected as part of research that charts ninth-graders' connection with nature through a questionnaire (the Nature Relatedness Scale) and writings on happiness. The responses in this quantitative dataset can be connected to the qualitative dataset FSD3403 Ninth-Graders' Views on Happiness 2019, which is also archived at FSD. The responses can be connected to the texts in the qualitative dataset with a unique personal code number that was given to each respondent. The qualitative dataset containing the written texts is only available in Finnish. The ninth-graders' connection to nature was measured with the Finnish translation of the 21-item Nature Relatedness Scale. A Nature Relatedness Score, indicative of the strength of the respondent's connection to nature, can be calculated based on the responses to the scale. The dataset includes the respondents' Nature Relatedness Scores, calculated by the researcher, as well as both the original and reversed numerical scoring scale for the reverse scored items (2, 3, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 18) in different variables (e.g. original numerical scoring scale in variable q2: 1 = strongly disagree and 5 = strongly agree, reversed numerical scoring scale in variable k_q2: 1 = strongly agree and 5 = strongly disagree). The survey examined the ninth-graders' personal relationship with nature with questions on, for example, whether they enjoyed being outdoors even in unpleasant weather, thought that their connection to nature and the environment was part of their spirituality, and thought their relationship with nature was an important part of who they were. Environmental concern was surveyed with questions relating to, for example, whether the respondents thought that humans have the right to use natural resources in any way they want, always thought about how their actions affect the environment, and thought that conservation is unnecessary because nature is strong enough to recover from any human impact. Furthermore, the respondents' affiliation with animals was charted with questions focusing on, for example, whether they thought that some species are just meant to die out or become extinct, took notice of wildlife wherever they were, and thought a lot about the suffering of animals. Additionally, the survey included a question on how satisfied the ninth-graders were in their life in general on a scale from 4 to 10 (in school grades). Surveys of wellbeing, nature connectedness and pro-nature conservation behaviour scores from adult human participants before and after taking part in nature-based activities, including citizen science, in 2020 are presented. Participants were recruited via a public campaign and were randomly allocated into groups: citizen science, noticing nature (three good things in nature activity), combined citizen science and three good things in nature, and a wait list control. They were invited to take part in activities up to five times in the following eight days. Online surveys of wellbeing and nature connectedness were undertaken at people’s sign up to the project and after the eight days of activities. Demographic characteristics and people’s engagement with the project and responses to the pathways to nature connectedness were recorded after the eight days of activities. The research was carried out to investigate concern about the negative impacts of COVID-19 movement restrictions and social distancing on people's wellbeing and mental health. This file contains an assessment of the quality conditions or conditions for the biodiversity/nature of all kilometre lofts in the Province of Overijssel. This is done according to the system of Basic Quality Nature (BKN). It shows the minimum quality of areas needed to ensure that general species remain common and/or become common in areas where nature is not the leading function. This set zooms in on the scenario "areas with high-productive, sustainable agriculture and/or intensive buildings". The situation has been mapped per landscape element and per kilometre hutch by means of a geographical analysis. A comparison between the presence of landscape elements and land use and the minimum amount required determines to what extent the kilometre loft meets the Basic Quality Nature. For this analysis, the Landscape Elements Registration System (LASREG) and the Basic Parcel Registration System (BRP) were used as sources. The landscape features present are divided into the landscape features: wood wall/rising greenery, flowery grassland, grain field, streams and ditches, swamp and bank, pond/ven. For each characteristic, the extent to which the current situation complies with the normative quantity has been calculated. This condition is indicated by a percentage per characteristic. By adding all percentages of all conditions together, an overall score is created per landscape type and per scenario. The lowest score on a condition is 0 percent, the highest score is 100 percent. The score intensive is a conclusion of presence of the necessary conditions together. This varies per landscape type from four to six conditions. By intensively comparing the score with the maximum score to be achieved (standard goal), it becomes clear to what extent a kilometre loft meets the standard score (target result) on the basis of current conditions.

Conservationists often assume that connection with and caring about nature's wellbeing is strongly linked to ecological knowledge. Existing evidence on the link between ecological knowledge and psychological nature connection is mixed, geographically limited to countries in the Global North, and does not scrutinize potential differences in determinants of ecological knowledge and nature connection.
We investigate the relationship between psychological nature connection and ecological knowledge of local bird species and assess their associations with potential drivers, including access to, contact with, and reliance on nature and socio-demographic characteristics. Our study is carried among a novel participant population of colonist farmers living along a major deforestation frontier in the Brazilian Amazon.
Our study context has high conservation relevance and provides an ideal setting to assess the extent to which conservation psychology's insights from the Global North hold true elsewhere. Tropical farm-forest frontiers suffer from intense habitat and biodiversity loss, and farmers with migrant origins are important yet rarely studied conservation stakeholders. Importantly, farmer's experiences of nature are likely to vary considerably due to the wide range of socio-demographic, economic, geographic, and cultural diversity.
Interviewees scored highly on two indices of nature connection, but scores were higher among older people and those with greater contact with nature. Bird identification knowledge was generally low to moderate, and higher among men and younger people. Species more frequently recognised were regionally common, larger-bodied, or associated with non-forest habitats. 5. Ecological knowledge of birds and nature connection were not correlated, and they did not have any predictors in common. Our results indicate that colonist farmers are capable of forming strong connections with nature, even if they rarely possess detailed knowledge of local forest biodiversity. Considering the complex and apparently context-dependent relationship between knowing and caring about nature, it is unwise to assume that changing one would automatically affect the other.
