    Tribal Census Tracts This feature layer, utilizing National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) data from the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), depicts American Indian tribal census tracts. Per the USCB, “a tribal census tract is a relatively permanent statistical subdivision of a federally recognized American Indian reservation and/or off-reservation trust land, delineated by the American Indian tribal government and/or the Census Bureau for the purpose of presenting demographic data. For federally recognized American Indian Tribes with reservations and/or off-reservation trust lands with a population less than 2,400, a single tribal census tract is defined.     Context

    The dataset tabulates the data for the Navajo County, AZ population pyramid, which represents the Navajo County population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. The Address Ranges Feature Shapefile (ADDRFEAT.dbf) contains the geospatial edge geometry and attributes of all unsuppressed address ranges for a county or county equivalent area. The term "address range" refers to the collection of all possible structure numbers from the first structure number to the last structure number and all numbers of a specified parity in between along an edge side relative to the direction in which the edge is coded. Single-address address ranges have been suppressed to maintain the confidentiality of the addresses they describe.     A federal Indian reservation is an area of land reserved for a tribe or tribes under treaty or other agreement with the United States, executive order, or federal statute or administrative action as permanent tribal homelands, and where the federal government holds title to the land in trust on behalf of the tribe. Off-reservation trust land is real estate that is held by the US Department of the Interior for the benefit of a Native American tribe or a member of a tribe, but is not located within an Indian reservation. Off-reservation trust land can be used for a variety of purposes, including: Housing, Agriculture or forestry, Community services like health care and education, Governmental operations, and Cultural activities.Native Nation refers to the indigenous people group itself, with its own political structure and sovereignty, allowing them to govern their affairs within their tribal boundaries. A "tribal reservation" is a specific geographic area of land designated for a Native American tribe to live on, while a "Native Nation" refers to the tribe itself, which is a sovereign political entity with its own government and culture, regardless of whether they reside on a reservation or not; essentially, the reservation is the land, and the Native Nation is the people and their governing body that inhabit it. Example: The Navajo Nation is a Native Nation, and the Navajo Reservation is the specific land area where a large portion of the Navajo people reside.Data Source: The Census Bureau obtains the boundary and attribute information for tribal subdivisions on federally recognized American Indian reservations and off-reservation trust lands from federally recognized tribal governments through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).     The American Indian and Alaska Native Summary File (AIANSF) contains summary data for Native Americans derived from the 2010 Census questionnaire. Covered population and housing subjects include age, sex, tribal affiliation (enrolled or principal tribe), household relationship, household type, household size, family type, family size, group quarters and housing tenure. The data are organized in 71 tables (one variable per table cell) which are iterated for the total population, the total American Indian and Alaska Native population alone, the total American Indian and Alaska Native population alone or in combination with one or more other races, and 1,567 detailed tribes and tribal groupings. Sixty-one tables are presented down to the census tract level and 10 tables down to the county level. Altogether the tables are presented at 76 levels of observation, including the United States as a whole, regions, divisions, states, counties, county subdivisions, places, census tracts, metropolitan statistical areas/micropolitan statistical areas, congressional districts (111th Congress), state legislative districts, school districts, 5-digit ZIP code tabulation areas, American Indian Areas/Alaska Native Areas/Hawaiian Home Lands, tribal subdivisions and tribal census tracts. In the Census Bureau's nomenclature, the population group iterations are called "characteristic iterations" and levels of observation are called "summary levels." The AIANSF tables are also presented for geographic components of some summary levels, e.g., all federally-recognized American Indian reservations collectively within each state or the nation as a whole; all metropolitan statistical areas collectively within each state or the nation as a whole, and the principal cities of metropolitan or micropolitan statistical areas. AIANSF contains 17,271 data files: a file with geographic identification variables (the geographic header record file) and 11 files with the population and housing variables for each characteristic iteration. Together with the data files, the Census Bureau prepared a codebook, Microsoft Access database shell and additional documentation. ICPSR provides the data files in a ZIP archive and the database shell and additional documentation in a second ZIP archive

Address range associated to more than one street name are also represented by multiple coincident address range feature edge records. Note that the ADDRFEAT shapefile includes all unsuppressed address ranges compared to the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp) which only includes the most inclusive address range associated with each side of a street edge. The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) System (MTS). The MTS represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. American Indian tribal subdivisions are administrative subdivisions of federally recognized American Indian reservations/off-reservation trust lands or Oklahoma tribal statistical areas (OTSAs). These entities are internal units of self-government and/or administration that serve social, cultural, and/or economic purposes for the American Indian tribe or tribes on the reservations/off-reservation trust lands or OTSAs. The Census Bureau obtains the boundary and attribute information for tribal subdivisions on federally recognized American Indian reservations and off-reservation trust lands from federally recognized tribal governments through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS). For the 2020 Census, the boundaries for tribal subdivisions on OTSAs were also obtained from federally recognized tribal governments through the Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP). Note that tribal subdivisions do not exist on all reservations/off-reservation trust lands or OTSAs, rather only where they were submitted to the Census Bureau by the federally recognized tribal government for that area. The boundaries for American Indian tribal subdivisions are as of January 1, 2024, as reported by the federally recognized tribal governments through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS). The boundaries for tribal subdivisions on OTSAs are those reported as of January 1, 2020 through PSAP.

    Sixty-seven maps from Indian Land Cessions in the United States, compiled by Charles C. Royce and published as the second part of the two-part Eighteenth Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, 1896-1897 have been scanned, georeferenced in JPEG2000 format, and digitized to create this feature class of cession maps. The mapped cessions and reservations included in the 67 maps correspond to entries in the Schedule of Indian Land Cessions, indicating the number and location of each cession by or reservation for the Indian tribes from the organization of the Federal Government to and including 1894, together with descriptions of the tracts so ceded or reserved, the date of the treaty, law or executive order governing the same, the name of the tribe or tribes affected thereby, and historical data and references bearing thereon, as set forth in the subtitle of the Schedule. Cessions were digitized as a file geodatabase (GDB) polygon feature class, projected as NAD83 USA_Contiguous_Lambert_Conformal_Conic, which is the same projection used to georeference the maps. The feature class was later reprojected to WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxiliary sphere) to optimize it for the Tribal Connections Map Viewer. Polygon boundaries were digitized as to not deviate from the drawn polygon edge to the extent that space could be seen between the digitized polygon and the mapped polygon at a viewable scale. Topology was maintained between coincident edges of adjacent polygons. The cession map number assigned by Royce was entered into the feature class as a field attribute. The Map Cession ID serves as the link referencing relationship classes and joining additional attribute information to 752 polygon features, to include the following: 1. Data transcribed from Royce's Schedule of Indian Land Cessions: a. Date(s), in the case of treaties, the date the treaty was signed, not the date of the proclamation; b. Tribe(s), the tribal name(s) used in the treaty and/or the Schedule; and c. Map Name(s), the name of the map(s) on which a cession number appears; 2. URLs for the corresponding entry in the Schedule of Indian Land Cessions (Internet Archive) for each unique combination of a Date and reference to a Map Cession ID (historical references in the Schedule are included); 3. URLs for the corresponding treaty text, including the treaties catalogued by Charles J. Kappler in Indian Affairs: Laws and Treaties (HathiTrust Digital Library), executive order or other federal statute (Library of Congress and University of Georgia) identified in each entry with a reference to a Map Cession ID or IDs; 4. URLs for the image of the Royce map(s) (Library of Congress) on which a given cession number appears; 5. The name(s) of the Indian tribe or tribes related to each mapped cession, including the name as it appeared in the Schedule or the corresponding primary text, as well as the name of the present-day Indian tribe or tribes; and 6. The present-day states and counties included wholly or partially within a Map Cession boundary. During the 2017-2018 revision of the attribute data, it was noted that 7 of the Cession Map IDs are missing spatial representation in the Feature Class. The missing data is associated with the following Cession Map IDs: 47 (Illinois 1), 65 (Tennessee and Bordering States), 128 (Georgia), 129 (Georgia), 130 (Georgia), 543 (Indian Territory 3), and 690 (Iowa 2), which will be updated in the future. This dataset revises and expands the dataset published in 2015 by the U.S. Forest Service and made available through the Tribal Connections viewer, the Forest Service Geodata Clearinghouse, and Data.gov. The 2018 dataset is a result of collaboration between the Department of Agriculture, U.S. Forest Service, Office of Tribal Relations (OTR); the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, National NAGPRA Program; the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of International and Tribal Affairs, American Indian Environmental Office; and Dr. Claudio Saunt of the University of Georgia. The Forest Service and Dr. Saunt independently digitized and georeferenced the Royce cession maps and developed online map viewers to display Native American land cessions and reservations. Dr. Saunt subsequently undertook additional research to link Schedule entries, treaty texts, federal statutes and executive orders to cession and reservation polygons, which he agreed to share with the U.S. Forest Service. OTR revised the data, linking the Schedule entries, treaty texts, federal statues and executive orders to all 1,172 entries in the attribute table. The 2018 dataset has incorporated data made available by the National NAGPRA Program, specifically the Indian tribe or tribes related to each mapped cession, including the name as it appeared in the Schedule or the corresponding primary text and the name of the present-day Indian tribe or tribes, as well as the present-day states and counties included wholly or partially within a Map Cession boundary. This data replaces in its entirety the National NAGPRA data included in the dataset published in 2015. The 2015 dataset incorporated data presented in state tables compiled from the Schedule of Indian Land Cessions by the National NAGPRA Program. In recent years the National NAGPRA Program has been working to ensure the accuracy of this data, including the reevaluation of the present-day Indian tribes and the provision of references for their determinations. Changes made by the OTR have not been reviewed or approved by the National NAGPRA Program. The Forest Service will continue to collaborate with other federal agencies and work to improve the accuracy of the data included in this dataset. Errors identified since the dataset was published in 2015 have been corrected, and we request that you notify us of any additional errors we may have missed or that have been introduced.     Measurement technique
    The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the three variables, namely (a) Population (Male), (b) Population (Female), and (c) Gender Ratio (Males per 100 Females), we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the gender classifications (biological sex) reported by the US Census Bureau across 18 age groups, ranging from under 5 years to 85 years and above.     About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the population of Navajo County by gender across 18 age groups. It lists the male and female population in each age group along with the gender ratio for Navajo County. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Navajo County by gender and age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group for both Men and Women in Navajo County. Additionally, it can be used to see how the gender ratio changes from birth to senior most age group and male to female ratio across each age group for Navajo County.

    Scope of gender :

    Please note that American Community Survey asks a question about the respondents current sex, but not about gender, sexual orientation, or sex at birth. Our research and this dataset mirrors the data reported as Male and Female for gender distribution analysis.

    Description

    The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The Feature Names Relationship File (FEATNAMES.dbf) contains a record for each feature name and any attributes associated with it. Each feature name can be linked to the corresponding edges that make up that feature in the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp), where applicable to the corresponding address range or ranges in the Address Ranges Relationship File (ADDR.dbf), or to both files. Although this file includes feature names for all linear features, not just road features, the primary purpose of this relationship file is to identify all street names associated with each address range. An edge can have several feature names; an address range located on an edge can be associated with one or any combination of the available feature names (an address range can be linked to multiple feature names). The address range is identified by the address range identifier (ARID) attribute, which can be used to link to the Address Ranges Relationship File (ADDR.dbf). The linear feature is identified by the linear feature identifier (LINEARID) attribute, which can be used to relate the address range back to the name attributes of the feature in the Feature Names Relationship File or to the feature record in the Primary Roads, Primary and Secondary Roads, or All Roads Shapefiles. The edge to which a feature name applies can be determined by linking the feature name record to the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp) using the permanent edge identifier (TLID) attribute. The address range identifier(s) (ARID) for a specific linear feature can be found by using the linear feature identifier (LINEARID) from the Feature Names Relationship File (FEATNAMES.dbf) through the Address Range / Feature Name Relationship File (ADDRFN.dbf).

    This layer contains the Version 2.0 BEAD Project Area Unit (PAU) boundaries, last updated December 12th, 2024.PAUs define the areas where prospective applicants can bid for funding under the federal BEAD program. The final version of the PAUs comes after OBAE made extensive changes in response to public comments and suggestions. These changes resulted in a greater number of PAUs that took greater account for existing network infrastructure, allowing applicants to better design successful BEAD projects.Note: OBAE has received formal approval of the BEAD Challenge Process results by NTIA. However, in the time since the Challenge Process has ended, OBAE has been made aware of new enforceable commitments and defaults. OBAE is currently in the process of deduplicating the NTIA BEAD-Eligible BSLs using this new grant information. When this deduplication process is complete, the PAUs will be updated to contain attributes which summarize the amount of Unserved (BEAD-Eligible), Underserved and Served BSLs within each unit. Additionally, PAUs without any eligible locations for BEAD will be removed from the map.Prequalified Tribal communities, nonprofits, internet service providers, cooperatives and other entities may submit applications for BEAD, the state’s largest funding program to deploy broadband infrastructure, starting January 3, 2025. The state will be awarding $675 million in grants through BEAD.If you have any questions about the PAUs or the BEAD program in general, please email OBAE at: Broadband@connect.nm.govOBAE used the following geographic boundaries to split the state of New Mexico into 255 PAUs:NTIA High-Cost Areas – NTIA High-Cost Areas were given their own PAUs, represented by the abbreviation "HC" in the PAU name (note: many of these High Cost Areas were subdivided into a collection of smaller PAUs). Tribal Boundaries – Tribal areas were made into their own PAUs (non-contiguous regions of the same Tribe/Pueblo are all one PAU). PAUs representing Tribal Land are denoted with the abbreviation "TL" in their name.For Tribal areas partially overlapping NTIA High-Cost Areas, separate PAUs were created from the overlap (similar to a Venn diagram). These areas contain the abbreviation "TL/HC" in their PAU name.School Districts – School district boundaries were used as the starting point for the majority of the PAUs.Census Tracts/ Block Groups – For larger or densely populated areas, Census Tracts or CBGs were used to further subdivide. Tribal Census Tracts This feature layer, utilizing National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) data from the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), depicts American Indian tribal census tracts. Per the USCB, “a tribal census tract is a relatively permanent statistical subdivision of a federally recognized American Indian reservation and/or off-reservation trust land, delineated by the American Indian tribal government and/or the Census Bureau for the purpose of presenting demographic data. For federally recognized American Indian Tribes with reservations and/or off-reservation trust lands with a population less than 2,400, a single tribal census tract is defined.
