    Description

UPDATE: We are up and working again for the 2025-2026 NBA season!!!

This NBA dataset contains player and team box scores and statistics for every NBA game from 1947 to the present. It is historical and comprehensive, updated daily. Designed for enthusiasts, analysts, and data scientists, it provides a solid foundation for exploring basketball history, player performance, and team dynamics.

The dataset is updated daily with the latest results. I provide it in the .csv format for maximum accessibility:

Description of Files in the Dataset: 1. PlayerStatistics.csv The centerpiece of the dataset, this file contains detailed box scores for every individual player in NBA history, game by game. 2. TeamStatistics.csv A complete record of team-level box scores for every game played in NBA history. 3. Games.csv Comprehensive records of all NBA games, including home and away teams, game outcomes, and, where available, arena and attendance details. Recent entries include expanded data, with plans to retroactively update historical entries. 4. LeagueSchedule24_25.csv The full schedule for the 2024–2025 NBA season, including game locations and times. 5. Players.csv Biographical information for every player, including height, weight, and position, enabling detailed player analysis across eras. 6. TeamHistories.csv A historical account of NBA franchises, tracking name changes, relocations, and expansions over the league’s history.

It took a bit of money to get all this stuff up and running on Amazon Web Services. If you would like to help support this project, I would be very grateful for any donations made here :-)

Thanks to NBA.com for the underlying data.

In February 2023, LeBron James broke the NBA all-time points record, scoring 38 points in the LA Lakers' 133-130 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Following the game, James' total stood at 38,390. The previous record holder, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, had scored 38,387 points for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Lakers in an illustrious 20-year career spanning from 1969 to 1989. As of December 2025, James had a total of 42,184 points, breaking the 40,000-point mark in a 2024 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Who has scored the most points in NBA playoffs? This statistic only shows points scored in regular-season NBA games and does not take the playoffs into account. Prior to breaking the all-time points record, LeBron James already held the record for the most points scored in NBA playoffs, which stood at 8,289 points as of 2025. He is also the career leader for the Cleveland Cavaliers, for which he played a total of 11 seasons, in many important statistical categories like points, assists, rebounds, steals, and games played. James has been similarly dominant off the court, being the second highest-paid player in the NBA, with his total earnings reaching over 130 million U.S. dollars in the 2024/25 season. Who has the most NBA assists? After a career spanning 19 years with the Utah Jazz, John Stockton holds the all-time record for the most assists in the NBA. In his time with the Jazz, Stockton had a total of 15,806 assists and was a 10-time All-Star, however, never won an NBA championship. Ranked second and third for assists were Chris Paul and Jason Kidd, respectively.

NBA Rookies Performance Statistics and Minutes Played: 1980-2016

Tracking Basketball Prodigies' Growth and Achievements

    By Gabe Salzer [source]

    About this dataset

This dataset contains essential performance statistics for NBA rookies from 1980-2016. Here you can find minute per game stats, points scored, field goals made and attempted, three-pointers made and attempted, free throws made and attempted (with the respective percentages for each), offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, assists, steals blocks turnovers efficiency rating and Hall of Fame induction year. It is organized in descending order by minutes played per game as well as draft year. This Kaggle dataset is an excellent resource for basketball analysts to gain a better understanding of how rookies have evolved over the years—from their stats to how they were inducted into the Hall of Fame. With its great detail on individual players' performance data this dataset allows you to compare their performances against different eras in NBA history along with overall trends in rookie statistics. Compare rookies drafted far apart or those that played together- whatever your goal may be!

    How to use the dataset

This dataset is perfect for providing insight into the performance of NBA rookies over an extended period of time. The data covers rookie stats from 1980 to 2016 and includes statistics such as points scored, field goals made, free throw percentage, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds and assists. It also provides the name of each rookie along with the year they were drafted and their Hall of Fame class.

This data set is useful for researching how rookies’ stats have changed over time in order to compare different eras or identify trends in player performance. It can also be used to evaluate players by comparing their stats against those of other players or previous years’ stats.

In order to use this dataset effectively, a few tips are helpful:

    • Consider using Field Goal Percentage (FG%), Three Point Percentage (3P%) and Free Throw Percentage (FT%) to measure a player’s efficiency beyond just points scored or field goals made/attempted (FGM/FGA).

    • Lookout for anomalies such as low efficiency ratings despite high minutes played as this could indicate that either a player has not had enough playing time in order for their statistics to reach what would be per game average when playing more minutes or that they simply did not play well over that short period with limited opportunities.

    • Try different visualizations with the data such as histograms, line graphs and scatter plots because each may offer different insights into varied aspects of the data set like comparison between individual years vs aggregate trends over multiple years etc.

Lastly it is important keep in mind whether you're dealing with cumulative totals over multiple seasons versus looking at individual season averages or per game numbers when attempting analysis on these sets!

    Research Ideas

    • Evaluating the performance of historical NBA rookies over time and how this can help inform future draft picks in the NBA.
    • Analysing the relative importance of certain performance stats, such as three-point percentage, to overall success and Hall of Fame induction from 1980-2016.
    • Comparing rookie seasons across different years to identify common trends in terms of statistical contributions and development over time

John Stockton is the all-time assists leader of the National Basketball Association (NBA) with a total of 15,806 assists in his career. As of December 2025, the highest-ranked player still active in the NBA was Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers, with over 12,000 assists to his name. Basketball legends In basketball, an assist is awarded to the player who passes the ball to a teammate to score. John Stockton, who spent his entire career from 1984 to 2003 as a point guard for the Utah Jazz, is the runaway leader for assists in the NBA. One of the few still active players on the list is LeBron James, who currently sits in fourth place with over 11,000 assists. The basketball legend, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, having moved from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018, also holds the record in terms of NBA all-time scoring leaders. King of the Playoffs LeBron is the undisputed king of the playoffs, having scored over 8,000 points on his way to becoming the all-time playoff scoring leader. In his stints at the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, James made the playoffs for 14 straight seasons from 2004/05 to 2017/18. He made a high-profile move to the Los Angeles Lakers at the start of the 2018/19 season, but everything did not go quite to plan initially; James missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005 and failed to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010. However, the Lakers then went on to claim what was a record-equaling 17th NBA championship title in 2020, defeating the Miami Heat 4-2 in the finals.

    Description

Fantasy sports, particularly the daily variety in which new lineups are selected each day, are a rapidly growing industry. The two largest companies in the daily fantasy business, DraftKings and Fanduel, have been valued as high as $2 billion. This research focuses on the development of a complete system for daily fantasy basketball, including both the prediction of player performance and the construction of a team. First, a Bayesian random effects model is used to predict an aggregate measure of daily NBA player performance. The predictions are then used to construct teams under the constraints of the game, typically related to a fictional salary cap and player positions. Permutation based and K-nearest neighbors approaches are compared in terms of the identification of “successful” teams—those who would be competitive more often than not based on historical data. We demonstrate the efficacy of our system by comparing our predictions to those from a well-known analytics website, and by simulating daily competitions over the course of the 2015–2016 season. Our results show an expected profit of approximately $9,000 on an initial $500 investment using the K-nearest neighbors approach, a 36% increase relative to using the permutation-based approach alone. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

Wilt Chamberlain is the all-time rebound leader of the National Basketball Association with a total of 23,924 rebounds in his career. Meanwhile, the highest ranked player still active in the NBA is LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, who had a total of 11,731 rebounds to his name as of November 2025. Basketball legends In basketball, a rebound is defined as a player either retrieving the ball after a missed field goal or free throw or tipping in a missed shot on an offensive play. Wilt Chamberlain is the undisputed king of the rebounds, having racked up almost 24 thousand in his 14-year career as a center in the NBA. Chamberlain spent the last five years of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the honor of being the Lakers’ all-time rebound leader does not belong to Chamberlain, but rather to Elgin Baylor. The small forward spent his whole career, 13 seasons in total, with the Lakers and amassed 11,463 rebounds. The remaining top five in the list of Lakers rebound leaders is made up of other legends of the game - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, and Magic Johnson. All-time scoring leaders The aforementioned legends of the game also all make it onto the list of NBA all-time scoring leaders. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar topped this list for over 30 years, coming close to breaking the 40,000-point threshold before retiring in 1989. This record was finally broken in February 2023, when LeBron James scored 38 points in a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

    Description

This SQL database contains team and player statistics from individual regular season games from 10 seasons (2013-2014 through 2022-2023). The database includes 3 tables:

    1. Game Info: 11,979 rows, each containing information about the teams, score, and outcome.
    2. Team Stats: 23,958 rows with boxscore stats from each game.
    3. Player Stats: 305,732 rows with boxscore stats from each game.

While this kind of data can be found elsewhere on the internet, it is typically not in a format that allows for easy manipulation and analysis. The goal was to create a database that allows users to more easily perform statistical analysis and modeling.

    Description

In May 2021, point guard Russell Westbrook became the undisputed king of the triple-doubles. He scored his record-breaking 182nd triple-double in a tight 125-124 loss against the Atlanta Hawks. Westbrook scored his very first triple-double in March 2009 while playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He spent 11 years at the franchise before changing teams five times in six years, eventually joining the Sacramento Kings in 2025. As of December 2025, Westbrook had 206 triple-doubles to his name. Who held the record before Westbrook? Before Russell Westbrook smashed the record, Oscar Robertson, nicknamed ‘The Big O’, held the record for triple-doubles in the National Basketball Association. He racked up 181 triple-doubles during his playing career with the Cincinnati Royals (now playing as the Sacramento Kings) and the Milwaukee Bucks between 1960 and 1974. What is a triple-double? In the NBA, statistical categories are kept on a per game basis for each individual player, including points, rebounds, assists, and steals. When a player reaches a score of ten or more in at least three of these statistical categories in a game, he records a triple-double (e.g. 10 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds). All the players on the list with at least 100 triple-doubles in their career are versatile, strong, and athletic and can handle the ball on the offensive as well as the defensive end. This enables these players to score at a high level and assist on many other baskets. Their size and basketball smarts often also make them good rebounders.
