During the 2023/24 season, the 30 franchises comprising the National Basketball Association (NBA) recorded a total revenue amounting to ***** billion U.S. dollars. This was an increase of over *** million dollars from the previous year. What are the NBA's main sources of revenue? Among the NBA's main sources of income are broadcasting deals, sponsorships, and gate receipts. In particular, the NBA's sponsorship revenue has consistently exceeded one billion U.S. dollars since the 2017/18 season. One of the league's main sponsors since then has been Nike, which is the league's official outfitter. Meanwhile, the share of overall revenue from gate receipts in the NBA was ***** percent in 2023/24. Which NBA team generates the most revenue? With a revenue of *** million U.S. dollars, the Golden State Warriors were the NBA team with the highest revenue in the 2023/24 season. Between 2015 and 2023, the Warriors were a dominant force in the NBA, appearing in six of eight finals and winning four championships, ending their trophy drought stretching back to 1975. However, the Warriors still have some way to go to match the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers as the NBA teams with the most championships, with the Celtics winning a record **** championship title in 2024.

The sample for this study is composed of NBA players from the 1999–2000 season through the 2015–2016 season. Data on the ethnicities of NBA players was manually collected by searching websites such as Wikipedia, Facebook, Google, and Baidu Encyclopedia; where it was impossible to make this judgment based on player data, players’ pictures published on the Basketball Reference website (http://www.basketball-reference.com) were examined to determine ethnicity (Wallace, 1988). Player salaries were collected from the ESPN website (http://www.espn.com/nba/salaries); player characteristics and technical data come from the ESPN website and the Basketball Reference website. Players who changed teams within a season were eliminated from the sample, as were players who made less than two appearances on the court within a season.

The NBA and WNBA are the two top leagues for basketball in the United States for men and women, respectively. In the NBA in 2024, players were paid around 50 percent of the league revenue. In comparison, players in the WNBA took home around 10 percent of the revenue generated in the league.

A January 2025 survey in the United States revealed that **** percent of NBA fans who attended or watched games had a household income between ****** and ****** U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, ** percent of fans' income was below ****** U.S. dollars.

As of 2024, the largest luxury tax bill footed by a team in the NBA came in the 2023/24 season, when the Golden State Warriors were taxed 176.9 million U.S. dollars by the league. The Warriors also held the other top-three spots, bringing their overall luxury tax payments from 2021/22 to 2023/24 to 510.9 million U.S. dollars.

Context

This dataset I created for my first original machine learning project. The goal of the project is to create model which predicts NBA player salary based on stats form previous NBA season. It contains information about player name, time span of the contract, avg salary per year and all stats that player accumulated during NBA season before signing a contract.

Content

I collected the data using web scraping from various sites and than combined them into dataframe included in this dataset.

Data doesn't include all contracts in NBA history or all even from specific time span. I ma not very proficient with acquiring data so it is only includes limited pool of contract. Here are the limitations: - There are only contracts signed since 2010/2011 season to 2019/2020 season. - Only includes players that are active in 2020/2021 season. - Doesn't include rookie or retained contracts. - Doesn't include contracts for player that haven't played year before the signing the contract.

This date will be mostly useful in projects that are similar to mine, which means creating NBA salary prediction model.

Basketball is a commonly watched sport both in the United States and worldwide. The National Basketball Association is a professional basketball league for men with 30 teams competing against each other in the United States. Over the past years, NBA has gained significant popularity and a significant increase in players' salaries has made it one of the best paid sports league worldwide. In 2019, the NBA's average annual salary reached 8.32 million U.S. dollars per player and total salaries approximated to 3.67 billion U.S. dollars.

Context

This data set contains combined on-court performance data for NBA players in the 2016-2017 season, alongside salary, Twitter engagement, and Wikipedia traffic data.

This is a dataset scraped from https://hoopshype.com/salaries/players/ using BeautifulSoup

Context

Since I found that the NBA datasets on Kaggle normally don't include the players' salaries into the variables and most of the NBA databases don't support extracting the table directly, I scraped them and put them up into one single dataset.

I scraped player stats for all NBA seasons, ranging from 1949-50 to 2021-22, from Basketball Reference.

The team Payroll and player salary data was scraped from Hoops Hype.

I utilized the nba_api python package to scrape all of the box score data.

This data set is an update to datasets such as NBA Player Stats & NBA Data from Basketball Reference.

The NBA and WNBA are the two top leagues for basketball in the United States for men and women, respectively. In the NBA, players took home an average annual salary of over ** million U.S. dollars for the 2024/25 season, with the league's minimum salary set at **** million U.S. dollars that year. In comparison, players in the WNBA received an average annual pay of ******* U.S. dollars in the 2025 season, with the highest-earning players in the WNBA receiving around ******* U.S. dollars annually.
