    Description

The North Carolina State and County Boundary vector polygon data provides location information for North Carolina State and County Boundary lines derived from the best available survey and/or Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Sources for information are the North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS), NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), United States Geological Survey (USGS), and field surveys conducted by licensed surveyors in North Carolina and neighboring states that have been approved and recorded in their respective counties. North Carolina Geodetic Survey assists counties on a cooperative basis (NC General Statute 153A-18) in defining and monumenting the location of uncertain or disputed boundaries as established by law. Some counties have completed boundary surveys for at least a portion of their county boundary. However, the majority of county boundaries have not been surveyed and are represented by the best currently available data from GIS sources, including NCDOT county maps (which originally came from the USGS) and updated county parcel maps.

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The primary legal divisions of most states are termed counties. In Louisiana, these divisions are known as parishes. In Alaska, which has no counties, the equivalent entities are the organized boroughs, city and boroughs, municipalities, and for the unorganized area, census areas. The latter are delineated cooperatively for statistical purposes by the State of Alaska and the Census Bureau. In four states (Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia), there are one or more incorporated places that are independent of any county organization and thus constitute primary divisions of their states. These incorporated places are known as independent cities and are treated as equivalent entities for purposes of data presentation. The District of Columbia and Guam have no primary divisions, and each area is considered an equivalent entity for purposes of data presentation. The Census Bureau treats the following entities as equivalents of counties for purposes of data presentation: Municipios in Puerto Rico, Districts and Islands in American Samoa, Municipalities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas is covered by counties or equivalent entities. The boundaries for counties and equivalent entities are as of January 1, 2017, primarily as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).

This Flood Insurance Study was produced through a cooperative partnership between the State of North Carolina and FEMA. The North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program, through FEMA's Cooperating Technical State (CTS) Initiative, is conducting flood hazard analyses and producing updated, digital FIRM panels for all North Carolina communities. Additional information regarding the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program and the data collected during the mapping process are available at www.ncfloodmaps.com. The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The DFIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The file is georeferenced to the earth's surface using the NC State Plane Coordinate System, North American Datum 1983, Units of Feet. The specifications for the horizontal control of DFIRM data files are consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000.

    Description

Broadband Serviceable Locations (BSLs) that are eligible for funding through the NC Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) Program. Eligible locations are determined by analyzing the availability of broadband as reported by internet providers to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) through their Broadband Data Collection (BDC). Locations are categorized into service levels in the data as:No Service – Locations with no reported service from Fiber, Cable, DSL, Licensed Fixed Wireless, or Licensed-by-Rule Fixed Wireless providers at any speed.Unserved Locations – Locations without access to internet service of at least 25mb/s download and 3mb/s upload speeds (25/3) and with low latency. Locations which are only served by DSL, Licensed-by-Rule Terrestrial Fixed Wireless, Unlicensed Fixed Wireless, or Licensed Fixed Wireless over mobile networks at any speed are also considered unserved.Underserved Locations – Locations with access to internet service of at least 25mb/s download and 3mb/s upload speeds, but less than 100mb/s Download and 20mb/s Upload speeds (100/20). Locations with service greater than 25/3 but are served with technology other than Cable and Fiber are also considered underserved.Participating counties may choose to prioritize certain geographic areas, within its county geographic boundaries, as areas to receive priority for CAB project deployments. Those counties that have prioritized certain locations for CAB applications will have those rankings listed in the "county_priority_rank" field in the data table with values of 1 being the highest priority locations, 2 being the next highest priority locations, and so on. Locations with a value of NULL have not been prioritized by the county. A county with all locations containing a value of NULL have either not become active projects or have not prioritized any areas in the respective county.

    Description

Chatham County, NC Zip Code polygons as maintained by the Chatham County E-911 Addressing Specialist. The original dataset comes from the Census Bureau which releases the GIS data to the public in the form of TIGER/Line Shapefiles. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are approximate area representations of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) ZIP Code service areas that the Census Bureau creates to present statistical data for each decennial census. The Census Bureau delineates ZCTA boundaries for the United States, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands once each decade following the decennial census. Data users should not use ZCTAs to identify the official USPS ZIP Code for mail delivery. The USPS makes periodic changes to ZIP Codes to support more efficient mail delivery. The Census Bureau uses tabulation blocks as the basis for defining each ZCTA. Tabulation blocks are assigned to a ZCTA based on the most frequently occurring ZIP Code for the addresses contained within that block. The most frequently occurring ZIP Code also becomes the five-digit numeric code of the ZCTA. These codes may contain leading zeros. Blocks that do not contain addresses but are surrounded by a single ZCTA (enclaves) are assigned to the surrounding ZCTA. Because the Census Bureau only uses the most frequently occurring ZIP Code to assign blocks, a ZCTA may not exist for every USPS ZIP Code. Some ZIP Codes may not have a matching ZCTA because too few addresses were associated with the specific ZIP Code or the ZIP Code was not the most frequently occurring ZIP Code within any of the blocks where it exists. The ZCTA boundaries in this release are those delineated following the 2010 Census.Chatham GIS SOP: "MAPSERV-14"

    Description

Historical population as enumerated and corrected from 1790 through 2020. North Carolina was one of the 13 original States and by the time of the 1790 census had essentially its current boundaries. The Census is mandated by the United States Constitution and was first completed for 1790. The population has been counted every ten years hence, with some limitations. In 1790 census coverage included most of the State, except for areas in the west, parts of which were not enumerated until 1840. The population for 1810 includes Walton County, enumerated as part of Georgia although actually within North Carolina. Historical populations shown here reflect the population of the respective named county and not necessarily the population of the area of the county as it was defined for a particular census. County boundaries shown in maps reflect boundaries as defined in 2020. Historic boundaries for some counties may include additional geographic areas or may be smaller than the current geographic boundaries. Notes below list the county or counties with which the population of a currently defined county were enumerated historically (Current County: Population counted in). The current 100 counties have been in place since the 1920 Census, although some modifications to the county boundaries have occurred since that time. For historical county boundaries see: Atlas of Historical County Boundaries Project (newberry.org)County Notes: Note 1: Total for 1810 includes population (1,026) of Walton County, reported as a Georgia county but later determined to be situated in western North Carolina. Description

This polygon dataset is the official Zoning map of Buncombe County. Zoning is the classification of land into districts, with each district placing restrictions and regulations on the type of uses and development allowed in the district. This dataset only includes County zoning, and does not include any zoning within incorporated municipalities such as within the City of Asheville or Town of Weaverville. For information about zoning inside of a city or town, please contact those municipalities directly. For more information http://gisdownload.buncombecounty.org/County_Zoning.htm
