Contains the most recent imagery collected by the NC Orthoimagery Program for any given area of North Carolina. The imagery is 4-band RGB+NIR (DEFLATE compression) and has a pixel resolution of 6 inches with an RMSE of 1.0 ft X and Y. The compression method used for this imagery minimizes the alteration of individual pixel values so that this data may be used for analyses.

Since 2020, the NC Orthoimagery Program has collected 4-band imagery (red, green, blue, near infrared) to support image analysis. The 2021 imagery collection includes the 21 counties representing the Southern Piedmont and Mountain regions of North Carolina. This version of the data is presented as true color (red, green, blue) imagery and is best used for general or background viewing. The imagery was flown in early 2023 as part of the NC Orthoimagery Program and has a pixel resolution of 6 inches. The RMSE is 1.0 ft X and Y.

This service depicts false color (CIR) imagery using the most recent 4-band imagery available from the North Carolina Orthoimagery Program. CIR is useful for environmental and land use monitoring because they can highlight features that are not as easily visible in standard visible light photographs. Some examples include assessing the health of vegetation, assessing soil moisture, determining water quality, and identifying man-made features. The imagery has a pixel resolution of 6 inches with a RMSE of 1.0 ft X and Y. Processing has been minimized to preserve the ability to use this data for raster analysis. To view the latest imagery for any location in the state, customers should always use the "Orthoimagery_Latest" image service which can be found at https://nconemap.gov.To find specific dates the images were captured use the imagery dates app or download the data.

The imagery has a pixel resolution of 6 inches with a RMSE of 1.0 ft X and Y. Processing has been minimized to preserve the ability to use this data for raster analysis. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is useful for measuring the quality, density, and amount of vegetation in a particular area. It is a single band dataset that represents vegetation health, based on the difference between the red and near infrared bands. Red and orange pixels represent areas with no vegetation. Yellow pixels represent areas with low to moderate vegetation. Green pixels represent areas with high vegetation density and health. This data is provided as a web service only (no download). To view the latest imagery for any location in the state, customers should always use the "Orthoimagery_Latest" image service which can be found at https://nconemap.gov.To find specific dates the images were captured use the imagery dates app or download the data.

Flooded and non-flooded regions were delineated from recent Hurricanes using a random forest classification model leveraging pre- and post-storm synthetic aperture radar from the European Space Agency's Sentinel-1 sensor, in addition to topography, floodplain, and landcover data. The classification model was trained with USGS and NCDEMS high-water marks, in addition to flooded and non-flooded regions delineated from high-resolution NOAA aerial photography; the model achieved >91% accuracy against an independent withheld sample for each storm. Within regions where flooding was detected, opportunities for buyouts, conservation of forests and wetlands, or lands where restoration or easements could be implemented were identified using the National Land Cover Dataset (2011). For additional details regarding the methods, please see the peer-reviewed publication and data and code archives referenced in the Credits below. Note: Do not download this raster using the map at the top of the page. Instead, click Download then "Download Floodplain Resilience raster."
