    This service provides a quarterly snapshot of the North Carolina state-maintained road network centerlines. Here, the route network is divided into three layers with symbolized Route Classifications listed below.State Maintained RoadsInterstateUS RouteNC RouteSecondary RouteRampsRest AreasOther State Agency RouteState Maintained Roads - Primary RoadsInterstateUS RouteNC RouteState Maintained Roads - InterstatesInterstateNorth Carolina’s route network is comprised of Interstate, US, NC, Secondary Roads, Ramps, and non-state maintained and projected roads required for federal reporting purposes. Route attributes include Route Class, Route Qualifier, Route Inventory, Route Number, Route Name, and County name. The Route ID attribute is an 11-digit composite route number, the identifier for the Dominant Route. It uniquely identifies routes statewide and should be used as the route identifier when performing LRS analysis using route/milepost referencing.NCDOT adopted the road centerline based Linear Reference System (LRS) Network as it’s official Enterprise LRS, to which multiple road inventory attributes are referenced along measured routes throughout North Carolina. These routes are classified as either System or Non-System routes. System routes are routes within the state-maintained road network, and are comprised of Interstates, US Routes, NC Routes, Secondary Routes, Ramps, and Non-System Routes. Non-System routes are routes that are typically not maintained by NCDOT, but instead by a local agency (county, city or MPO/RPO). The local agency is the source for updating these Non-System routes in NCDOT’s LRS.     This map service represents the all State Maintained Roads generated from NCDOT's Esri Roads and Highways system. To improve performance of the map service, three layers are included in the service set to draw and different scales:

    State Maintained Roads: All roads are drawn when zoomed in to 1:200,000 or less.

    State Maintained Roads – Primary Routes: Only interstates, US Routes, and NC Routes are drawn at a scale between 1:200,001 and 1:1,000,000.

    State Maintained Roads – Interstates: Only interstates are drawn beyond 1:1,000,001

    Description

    An arc layer for visual representation of the state road system where each arc/record is split at each state maintained road intersection. This is a digital file of the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Linear Referencing System that represents the routes and attributes of the NCDOT state road system. The state road system is comprised of Interstate, US, NC, Secondary Routes and Ramps. This layer also includes some non-state maintained and projected roads that are required for reporting purposes. This layer also contains some additional routes to meet the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) data requirements for the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). HPMS is a national level highway information system that includes data on the extent, condition, performance, use, and operating characteristics of the Nation's highways. States are required to submit an HPMS report to FHWA annually. The additional routes include: Projected Routes - generalized locations of projected routes that will become part of the National Highway System (NHS) when they are built. Non-state maintained roads - generalized locations of roads that are owned by local, state and federal entities. Only non-state maintained roads that are eligible for federal aid are included. Currently there is no connectivity enforced between the state-maintained roads and the non-state maintained roads. Data quality is tracked using the revision document fields (REVDOC_TYP_CD and REVDOC_NUM). Legacy data are coded as not verified. These data are updated on an ongoing basis to improve data quality and the revision document fields are updated accordingly. As new data are added the geometry and spatial location are verified with the most current information available.

    This service provides vector polygon dataset defining the official boundaries of the 100 counties within North Carolina as well as the boundaries between North Carolina and the states which border North Carolina.The North Carolina county polygon boundary service provides location information for North Carolina State and County Boundary lines derived from the best available survey and/or Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Sources for information are the North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS), NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), United States Geological Survey (USGS), and field surveys conducted by licensed surveyors in North Carolina and neighboring states that have been approved and recorded in their respective counties. Some boundaries cannot be surveyed in cases where boundaries are coincident with river centers. North Carolina Geodetic Survey assists counties on a cooperative basis (NC General Statute 153A-18) in defining and monumenting the location of uncertain or disputed boundaries as established by law. Some counties have completed boundary surveys for at least a portion of their county boundary.     With more than 44,000 Portable Traffic Count (PTC) Stations located throughout North Carolina, Traffic Survey has adopted a collection schedule. The data in this file was digitized referencing the available NCDOT Linear Referencing System (LRS) and is not the result of using GPS equipment in the field, nor latitude and longitude coordinates. The referencing provided is based on the 2015 Quarter 1 publication of the NCDOT Linear Referencing System (LRS). Some differences will be found when using different quarterly publications with this data set. The data provided is seasonally factored to an estimate of an annual average of daily traffic.     This resource is a member of a series. The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) System (MTS). The MTS represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The All Roads shapefile includes all features within the MTS Super Class "Road/Path Features" distinguished where the MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) for the feature in the MTS that begins with "S". This includes all primary, secondary, local neighborhood, and rural roads, city streets, vehicular trails (4wd), ramps, service drives, alleys, parking lot roads, private roads for service vehicles (logging, oil fields, ranches, etc.), bike paths or trails, bridle/horse paths, walkways/pedestrian trails, and stairways.

    This service provides visual representation of North Carolina Municipal Boundaries defined through the 2021-2022 Powell Bill.This service was created to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS). Municipal boundaries are recognized as a base cartographic layer for location analysis. This data is current for the fiscal year 2021 - 2022. Municipal boundaries updated this year were based on towns that reported annexation changes to the NC Office of Secretary of State. This may not be representative of all towns with boundary changes this year.The Municipal Boundaries service is based on the Powell Bill Program maps for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. Municipalities in North Carolina participating in the Powell Bill Program are required to submit to NCDOT on a regular basis. These datasets include incorporated municipalities in North Carolina that participate in the Powell Bill Program. Boundaries of municipalities which do not participate in the Powell Bill Program are also included in this data.     This EnviroAtlas dataset estimates the intersection density of walkable roads within a 750 meter radius of any given 10 meter pixel in the community. Intersections are defined as any point where 3 or more roads meet and density is calculated using kernel density, where closer intersections are weighted higher than further intersections. Intersection density is highly correlated with walking for transportation. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. The dataset is available as downloadable data (https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/ORD/EnviroAtlas) or as an EnviroAtlas map service.     These data depict Road Segment Centerlines and attributes for roads that are managed and maintained by the National Park Service. Road data are used for many purposes including planning and management, mapping and condition assessment, routing and navigation, public information, emergency response, and research. A current, accurate representation of park roads is needed for national reporting and a variety of mapping requirements at all levels of the National Park Service and the general public. A National-level dataset allows the NPS to communicate a consistent and high-quality roads database to NPS staff, partners, visitors, and entities that produce maps and location-based services of park units. The collection, storage, and management of road-related data are important components of everyday business activities in many Federal and State land-managing agencies, road organizations, and businesses. From a management perspective, road data must often mesh closely with other types of infrastructure, resource, and facility enterprise data. For the public using paper maps, the internet, GPS or other instrumentation, standard data formats enable users to consistently and predictably identify specific trails and a core set of corresponding information. Today, digital road data are a necessity throughout a road data management life-cycle, from road planning through design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Automating, sharing, and leveraging road data through this widely accepted standard can provide a variety of important benefits: Efficiency – creating and gathering road data that are standardized and readily usable. Compatibility – compiling data from one project or discipline that can be compatible with other applications; Consistency – using the same standards, meshing data produced by one organization with that developed by another; Speed – hastening the availability of data through a reduction in duplicative efforts and lowered production costs (Applications can be developed more quickly and with more interoperability by using existing standards-compliant data); Conflict resolution – resolving conflicting road data more easily if compliant to the same standards; Reliability – improving the quality of shared road data by increasing the number of individuals who find and correct errors; and Reusability – allow maximum reuse across agencies and support objectives of EGovernment (E-Gov) initiatives and enterprise architecture.

    This EnviroAtlas dataset addresses the tree buffer along heavily traveled roads. The roads are interstates, arterials, and collectors within the EnviroAtlas community boundary. Forest is defined as Trees & Forest. Sufficient tree bufferage is defined as 25% coverage within the circular moving window with a radius of 14.5m at any given point along the roadway. There are potential negative health effects for those living in a _location without a sufficient tree buffer.     Description

    The AADT file is a station point location of Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) estimates. This includes the data submitted to FHWA for Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) AADT reporting for 2021. Data are reported for AADT on all highways with a Functional Classification (FC) above Local. A full coverage is provided for these routes where AADT segmentation is based on network configuration, travel patterns, and land use. The extent of highway this AADT represents has not been determined. An AADT is an Annual Average Daily Traffic volume for all lanes in both directions passing a point on the highway system. It represents the average of all days during the year with typical traffic conditions. An AADT estimate is generated using procedures that comply with the standards specified in the Traffic Monitoring Guide published by the Federal Highway Administration. There are over 44,000 AADT stations that provide traffic data history from 2002 to the current year. With these collection locations, Traffic Survey has adopted the following data collection schedule: Interstate route volumes are collected on an annual basis; US and NC route volumes are also collected on an annual basis except for stations that fall within the off-cycle urban areas. (See urban area cycle below.) Secondary Road (SR) volumes are collected on a biennial cycle with approximately half being counted each year. If a particular secondary road is not available for the most current year, it may be available for the prior year. North Carolina's eighteen largest urban areas are counted on a biennial cycle with 10 urban areas counted during the even years, and 8 urban areas counted during the odd years. The following urban areas are collected during the even year cycle: Asheville, Charlotte, Concord-Kannapolis, Fayetteville, Gastonia, Goldsboro, Greenville, and Jacksonville. The following urban areas are collected during the odd year cycle: Burlington, Chapel Hill, Durham, Greensboro, Hickory, High Point, Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem. Data in this file derives from NCDOT Roads & Highways, Quarter 1 publication of the current calendar year. The referencing provided is based on the 2022 Quarter1publication of the NCDOT Linear Referencing System (LRS). Some differences will be found when using different quarterly publications with this data set. The data provided is seasonally factored to an estimate of an annual average of daily traffic. The statistics provided are Location_ID - 10-digit unique count location identifier, ROUTE: Numbered route identifier, or local name if not State maintained, LOCATION: Description of the Annual Average Daily Traffic station location. This service provides a quarterly snapshot of the North Carolina state-maintained road network centerlines. Route attributes include Route Class, Route Qualifier, Route Inventory, Route Number, Route Name, and County name. The Route ID attribute is an 11-digit composite route number, the identifier for the Dominant Route. It uniquely identifies routes statewide and should be used as the route identifier when performing LRS analysis using route/milepost referencing.NCDOT adopted the road centerline based Linear Reference System (LRS) Network as it’s official Enterprise LRS, to which multiple road inventory attributes are referenced along measured routes throughout North Carolina. These routes are classified as either System or Non-System routes. System routes are routes within the state-maintained road network, and are comprised of Interstates, US Routes, NC Routes, Secondary Routes, Ramps, and Non-System Routes. Non-System routes are routes that are typically not maintained by NCDOT, but instead by a local agency (county, city or MPO/RPO). The local agency is the source for updating these Non-System routes in NCDOT’s LRS.
