Methodology Every Tuesday, we publish four global Top 10 lists for films and TV: Film (English), TV (English), Film (Non-English), and TV (Non-English). These lists rank titles based on ‘views’ for each title from Monday to Sunday of the previous week. We define views for a title as the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime. Values are rounded to 100,000.
We consider each season of a series and each film on their own, so you might see both Stranger Things seasons 2 and 3 in the Top 10. Because titles sometimes move in and out of the Top 10, we also show the total number of weeks that a season of a series or film has spent on the list.
To give you a sense of what people are watching around the world, we also publish Top 10 lists for nearly 100 countries and territories (the same locations where there are Top 10 rows on Netflix). Country lists are also ranked by views.
Finally, we provide a list of the Top 10 most popular Netflix films and TV overall (branded Netflix in any country) in each of the four categories based on the views of each title in its first 91 days.
Some TV shows have multiple premiere dates, whether weekly or in parts, and therefore the runtime increases over time. For the weekly lists, we show the views based on the total hours viewed during the week divided by the total runtime available at the end of the week. On the Most Popular List, we wait until all episodes have premiered, so you see the views of the entire season. For titles that are Netflix branded in some countries but not others, we still include all of the hours viewed.
Information on the site starts from June 28, 2021 and any lists published before June 20, 2023 are ranked by hours viewed.

TwitterData revealed that Pakistan was the least expensive place in the world to get Netflix as of February 2025, with a monthly subscription for the standard plan costing 2.87 U.S. dollars. Egypt and Nigeria followed, with monthly prices for a Netflix subscription amounting to 3.37 and 3.66 U.S. dollars, respectively. Netflix’s plans and costs In addition to the standard package, Netflix provides two other plans in its home country, the United States. The premium version is the most expensive plan, but customers can watch content on four different devices, while the standard tiers support two devices. In order to offset income and subscriber losses, the streaming giant launched the ad-supported tier in November 2022. This plan, which is partly financed through advertising, can be acquired for a monthly fee of less than seven U.S. dollars. Netflix’s measures in times of crisis Facing constant and growing competition, as well as an economic downturn, Netflix is making changes in an effort to maintain its dominant position within the video streaming industry. While the service has started to crack down on account sharing in major countries, it announced in February 2023 that it would cut prices in over 100 territories, including especially Central and South American, African, and Asian countries. The latter affects around 10 million Netflix customers and should boost subscriber additions and combat churn in these markets.

TwitterNetflix reported approximately 90 million subscribers across the U.S. and Canada in the fourth quarter of 2024, making North America its second-largest global market after Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Netflix reports its first subscriber loss in decades After a decline in the number of paid Netflix subscribers worldwide during the first two quarters of 2022, the streaming giant seems to be back on track, adding over 30 million net subscribers in only one year. The United States and Canada experienced the most substantial combined subscriber loss, which is particularly noteworthy considering that Netflix generates the highest average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) in these countries. When asked about the main reasons for canceling their subscription, many former Netflix users listed the price as their main incentive for leaving. The service’s average monthly fee has increased significantly over the past few years, leading audiences to switch to more affordable (ad-supported) video streaming options or cut down on subscriptions altogether. Expanding global influence and content catalogs Netflix remains the leading subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service worldwide, outperforming all other international streaming powerhouses and local providers by a significant margin. To maintain its global lead, Netflix allocates impressive sums toward marketing while also expanding its regional content. In 2021, for example, the Seattle-based company opened its first office in Stockholm to serve as a hub for the Nordics region. In addition to that, Netflix also produces more original content outside the U.S. to appeal to its diverse international user base.

TwitterThe United Kingdom (UK) has the highest number of Netflix subscribers in Europe, with around 13 million subscribers as of the second quarter of 2010. The country with the second highest number was Germany with around 10.7 million, closely followed by France with 8.4 million. Netflix catalogues across Europe Not only does the UK have the highest number of Netflix subscribers in Europe, it’s also the country with the highest number of TV series on the SVoD (Subscription Video-on-Demand) platform. As of September 2019, there were 542 series available in the UK but just 350 in Germany. SVoD market share At 39 percent, Netflix had the largest share of the SVoD market in Europe in 2020. Their closest competitor was Amazon Prime Video, which had over a quarter of the market share in Europe that year. The fourth largest and one of the newest services, Disney+, reached a market share of seven percent. In the European Union, its revenue amounted to nearly 365 million euros as of 2020.

TwitterIn the third quarter of 2024, about 98.1 percent of internet users aged 16+ in the Philippines used a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service such as Netflix each month. Comparatively, 70.7 percent of internet users in Japan used a SVOD platform on a monthly basis as of the third quarter of the same month. This follows the trend observed in the global ranking of viewing time of streaming services, which has been growing the most in Asia year-on-year. SVOD services on the rise Globally, SVOD service revenue has increased continually over the last couple of years and has the highest revenue of other video-on-demand services on a global level. The same trend can be observed in the Asia-Pacific region. The preferred streaming device in Asia seems to be the mobile phone, while countries in Oceania tend to prefer the TV or computer for streaming purposes. Although SVOD services record a rising number of subscribers, the preferred video streaming service payment model for most consumers in the Asia-Pacific region is still watching ads rather than paying for an ad-free experience. Local or global? SVOD services seem to be on the rise in the Asia-Pacific region. Still, due to the region's cultural, linguistic, and economic diversity, it remains challenging for international platforms to breach the market. Netflix seems to be the global powerhouse regarding its estimated number of SVOD subscribers compared to other platforms. Nevertheless, the APAC region has the lowest number of Netflix paying screening subscribers worldwide. While the international platform Disney+ was forecast to have the highest number of SVOD subscribers by 2027 in the region, local streaming services are also gaining popularity in their respective countries.
