Market leader Facebook was the first social network to surpass one billion registered accounts and currently sits at more than three billion monthly active users. Meta Platforms owns four of the biggest social media platforms, all with more than one billion monthly active users each: Facebook (core platform), WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram. In the third quarter of 2023, Facebook reported around four billion monthly core Family product users. The United States and China account for the most high-profile social platforms Most top ranked social networks with more than 100 million users originated in the United States, but services like Chinese social networks WeChat, QQ or video sharing app Douyin have also garnered mainstream appeal in their respective regions due to local context and content. Douyin’s popularity has led to the platform releasing an international version of its network: a little app called TikTok. How many people use social media? The leading social networks are usually available in multiple languages and enable users to connect with friends or people across geographical, political, or economic borders. In 2025, social networking sites are estimated to reach 5.42 billion users and these figures are still expected to grow as mobile device usage and mobile social networks increasingly gain traction in previously underserved markets.

Youtube social network and ground-truth communities Dataset information Youtube is a video-sharing web site that includes a social network. In the Youtube social network, users form friendship each other and users can create groups which other users can join. We consider such user-defined groups as ground-truth communities. This data is provided by Alan Mislove et al.
We regard each connected component in a group as a separate ground-truth community. We remove the ground-truth communities which have less than 3 nodes. We also provide the top 5,000 communities with highest quality which are described in our paper. As for the network, we provide the largest connected component.

Since 2014 the share of enterprises across the European Union (EU-27) that used social networking apps and services increased significantly from 31 percent to 56 percent in 2021. Enterprises in Malta, Norway, and Sweden have the highest share of enterprises making use of social networking. Germany, France, and Spain have a relatively low share of such enterprises with around 53, and 60 percent respectively. This was nevertheless a significant increase since 2014, one that can be seen across most countries.

The CNS social network of interactions was used in the following manner. To consider close encounters, the data was mined taking into account that the probability for infection is inversely correlated with distance, and decreases dramatically as the distance. The proximity information was registered as the Received Signal Strength (RSSI) function. However, it is hard to infer exact distance information from the RSSI. Moreover, the distance itself is not a single component in calculating the chance of infection - the directions of standing, ventilation, and the environment are also significant parameters. To simplify the model we do not consider all the above. As stronger signal correlates roughly with high proximity, we consider interactions for the RSSI >= -90.
We further mined the dataset for cores, and incorporated core information into our modeling. Then consecutive meetings were aggregated. Note that the "datetime" field is arbitrary.

The Data Center Network market is experiencing robust growth, driven by the increasing adoption of cloud computing, big data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The market's expansion is fueled by the rising demand for high-bandwidth, low-latency networks capable of supporting the ever-increasing volume of data traffic generated by these technologies. Key application segments like BFSI, IT & Telecom, and Healthcare are leading the adoption, owing to their critical reliance on robust and secure data infrastructure. The shift towards software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) is further accelerating market growth, providing greater flexibility, scalability, and cost-efficiency. While three-tier architectures remain prevalent, the adoption of more sophisticated architectures like fat-tree and DCell is gaining traction, particularly in hyperscale data centers, to address the challenges of increased traffic density and improved performance. Competition is intense among established players like Cisco, Juniper Networks, and Arista Networks, as well as emerging players offering innovative solutions. Geographical expansion, particularly in rapidly developing economies of Asia Pacific and the Middle East & Africa, presents significant growth opportunities. However, the market faces challenges such as the complexity of deploying and managing large-scale data center networks, cybersecurity concerns, and the need for skilled professionals. Despite these challenges, the long-term outlook for the Data Center Network market remains positive. The continued growth of digital transformation initiatives across various industries will ensure consistent demand for advanced networking solutions. The market is expected to witness a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 15% between 2025 and 2033, leading to a substantial increase in market value. The market's segmentation by application and type allows vendors to tailor solutions to specific customer needs. Regional variations in adoption rates reflect differences in infrastructure development and digital maturity. North America currently holds a significant market share, followed by Europe and Asia-Pacific, with the latter poised for accelerated growth in the coming years. The strategic partnerships and acquisitions among vendors further shape the competitive landscape.

The dataset is a set of network traffic traces in pcap/csv format captured from a single user. The traffic is classified in 5 different activities (Video, Bulk, Idle, Web, and Interactive) and the label is shown in the filename. There is also a file (mapping.csv) with the mapping of the host's IP address, the csv/pcap filename and the activity label.
Activities:
Interactive: applications that perform real-time interactions in order to provide a suitable user experience, such as editing a file in google docs and remote CLI's sessions by SSH. Bulk data transfer: applications that perform a transfer of large data volume files over the network. Some examples are SCP/FTP applications and direct downloads of large files from web servers like Mediafire, Dropbox or the university repository among others. Web browsing: contains all the generated traffic while searching and consuming different web pages. Examples of those pages are several blogs and new sites and the moodle of the university. Vídeo playback: contains traffic from applications that consume video in streaming or pseudo-streaming. The most known server used are Twitch and Youtube but the university online classroom has also been used. Idle behaviour: is composed by the background traffic generated by the user computer when the user is idle. This traffic has been captured with every application closed and with some opened pages like google docs, YouTube and several web pages, but always without user interaction.
The capture is performed in a network probe, attached to the router that forwards the user network traffic, using a SPAN port. The traffic is stored in pcap format with all the packet payload. In the csv file, every non TCP/UDP packet is filtered out, as well as every packet with no payload. The fields in the csv files are the following (one line per packet): Timestamp, protocol, payload size, IP address source and destination, UDP/TCP port source and destination. The fields are also included as a header in every csv file.
The amount of data is stated as follows:
Bulk : 19 traces, 3599 s of total duration, 8704 MBytes of pcap files Video : 23 traces, 4496 s, 1405 MBytes Web : 23 traces, 4203 s, 148 MBytes Interactive : 42 traces, 8934 s, 30.5 MBytes Idle : 52 traces, 6341 s, 0.69 MBytes
The code of our machine learning approach is also included. There is a README.txt file with the documentation of how to use the code.
