    Description

This map includes change areas for city and county boundaries filed in accordance with Government Code 54900. The initial dataset was first published on October 20, 2021, and was based on the State Board of Equalization's tax rate area boundaries. As of April 1, 2024, the maintenance of this dataset is provided by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration for the purpose of determining sales and use tax jurisdictions. The boundaries are continuously being revised when areas of conflict are discovered between the original boundary provided by the California State Board of Equalization and the boundary made publicly available by local, state, and federal government. Some differences may occur between actual recorded boundaries and the boundaries used for sales and use tax purposes. The boundaries in this map are representations of taxing jurisdictions and should not be used to determine precise city or county boundary line locations. The data is updated within 10 business days of the CDTFA receiving a copy of the Board of Equalization's acknowledgement letter.BOE_CityAnx Data Dictionary: COFILE = county number - assessment roll year - file number (see note*); CHANGE = affected city, unincorporated county, or boundary correction; EFFECTIVE = date the change was effective by resolution or ordinance (see note*); RECEIVED = date the change was received at the BOE; ACKNOWLEDGED = date the BOE accepted the filing for inclusion into the tax rate area system; NOTES = additional clarifying information about the action.*Note: A COFILE number ending in "000" is a boundary correction and the effective date used is the date the map was corrected.BOE_CityCounty Data Dictionary: COUNTY = county name; CITY = city name or unincorporated territory; COPRI = county number followed by the 3-digit city primary number used in the Board of Equalization's 6-digit tax rate area numbering system (for the purpose of this map, unincorporated areas are assigned 000 to indicate that the area is not within a city).

    Description

The 2023 cartographic boundary KMLs are simplified representations of selected geographic areas from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). These boundary files are specifically designed for small-scale thematic mapping. When possible, generalization is performed with the intent to maintain the hierarchical relationships among geographies and to maintain the alignment of geographies within a file set for a given year. Geographic areas may not align with the same areas from another year. Some geographies are available as nation-based files while others are available only as state-based files. School Districts are single-purpose administrative units within which local officials provide public educational services for the area's residents. The Census Bureau obtains the boundaries, names, local education agency codes, grade ranges, and school district levels for school districts from state officials for the primary purpose of providing the U.S. Department of Education with estimates of the number of children in poverty within each school district. This information serves as the basis for the Department of Education to determine the annual allocation of Title I funding to states and school districts. The cartographic boundary files include separate files for elementary, secondary and unified school districts. The generalized school district boundaries in this file are based on those in effect for the 2022-2023 school year, i.e., in operation as of January 1, 2023.

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The primary legal divisions of most states are termed counties. In Louisiana, these divisions are known as parishes. In Alaska, which has no counties, the equivalent entities are the organized boroughs, city and boroughs, municipalities, and for the unorganized area, census areas. The latter are delineated cooperatively for statistical purposes by the State of Alaska and the Census Bureau. In four states (Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia), there are one or more incorporated places that are independent of any county organization and thus constitute primary divisions of their states. These incorporated places are known as independent cities and are treated as equivalent entities for purposes of data presentation. The District of Columbia and Guam have no primary divisions, and each area is considered an equivalent entity for purposes of data presentation. The Census Bureau treats the following entities as equivalents of counties for purposes of data presentation: Municipios in Puerto Rico, Districts and Islands in American Samoa, Municipalities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas is covered by counties or equivalent entities. The boundaries for counties and equivalent entities are as of January 1, 2018, primarily as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).

Geographic areas may not align with the same areas from another year. Some geographies are available as nation-based files while others are available only as state-based files. County subdivisions are the primary divisions of counties and their equivalent entities for the reporting of Census Bureau data. They include legally-recognized minor civil divisions (MCDs) and statistical census county divisions (CCDs), and unorganized territories. In MCD states where no MCD exists or no MCD is defined, the Census Bureau creates statistical unorganized territories to complete coverage. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas are covered by county subdivisions. The generalized boundaries of legal MCDs are based on those as of January 1, 2022, as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS). The generalized boundaries of all CCDs, delineated in 21 states, are based on those as reported as part of the Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) for the 2020 Census.

The timing of this New Jersey redistricting was delayed due to the COVID19 pandemic. The spatial data are based mainly on the NJ Municipal Boundaries layer Govt_admin_municipal_bnd (fka nj_munis), rather than Census Bureau geographic data (TIGER.) Information on officeholders is derived from the legislative roster provided by the NJ Office of Legislative Services. It is updated infrequently and should be checked from an independent source before use. *** Downloaded from the New Jersey Geographic Information Network (NJGIN) Open Data Portal on 5/16/2024 *** This polygon layer delineates the US Congressional District boundaries in New Jersey, 2022 - 2032. For this redistricting, the apportionment is the same as for the previous, 2012 redistricting, resulting in the same number of Congressional Districts; however the boundaries have changed significantly. This version of the layer uses high-quality base map spatial data published by the State of New Jersey, instead of U.S. Census Bureau geographic data (TIGER.) Where no higher-quality data were available, the TIGER lines were used. This layer, which overlays correctly the highest quality municipal boundary data for New Jersey is an unofficial version; by law, the official version is based on U.S. Census data (geographic and demographic.)

    Description

The New Mexico Public Water System (PWS) boundaries is a dataset of non-transient PWS service areas.

Associated documentation on these datasets can be accessed here. In 2023, the New Mexico Legislature passed the Regional Water System Resiliency Act, which allowed the formation of regional water authorities to strengthen the state's aging water infrastructure. The law allows public water systems to organize as recognized political subdivisions, which enables the pooling of resources to hire staff, implement new projects and programs, and access funding for system improvements. The law requires new authorities to file information showing their service area boundary with the Office of the State Engineer (OSE). New service area boundaries provided to the OSE will be incorporated into this dataset as appropriate.

The New Mexico Public Water System (PWS) Boundaries is a dataset of non-transient PWS service areas. The data was compiled by the OSE Water Use and Conservation Bureau with contractor assistance. For systems not providing a service area boundary, best approximation polygons were created using municipal boundaries, census data, and aerial imagery.
