This dataset compiles a comprehensive database containing 90,327 street segments in New York City, covering their street design features, streetscape design, Vision Zero treatments, and neighborhood land use. It has two scales-street and street segment group (aggregation of same type of street at neighborhood). This dataset is derived based on all publicly available data, most from NYC Open Data. This dataset represents a compilation of data from various government agencies throughout the City of New York. The underlying geography is derived from the Tax Lot Polygon feature class that is part of the Department of Finance's Digital Tax Map (DTM). The tax lots have been clipped to the shoreline, as defined by NYCMap planimetric features. The attribute information is from the Department of City Planning's PLUTO data. The attribute data pertains to tax lot and building characteristics and geographic, political and administrative information for each tax lot in New York City.The Tax Lot Polygon feature class and PLUTO are derived from different sources. As a result, some PLUTO records do not have a corresponding tax lot in the Tax Lot polygon feature class at the time of release. These records are included in a separate non-geographic PLUTO Only table. There are a number of reasons why there can be a tax lot in PLUTO that does not match the DTM; the most common reason is that the various source files are maintained by different departments and divisions with varying update cycles and criteria for adding and removing records. The attribute definitions for the PLUTO Only table are the same as those for MapPLUTO. DCP Mapping Lots includes some features that are not on the tax maps. They have been added by DCP for cartographic purposes. They include street center 'malls', traffic islands and some built streets through parks. My ArcGIS StoryMap is centered around The Green Book, an annual travel guide that allowed African Americans to travel safely during the height of the Jim Crow Era in the United States. More specifically, The Green Book listed establishments, such as hotels and restaurants, that would openly accept and welcome black customers into their businesses. As someone who is interested in the intersection between STEM and the humanities, I wanted to utilize The Science of Where to formulate a project that would reveal important historical implications to the public. Therefore, my overarching goal was to map each location in The Green Book in order to draw significant conclusions regarding racial segregation in one of the largest cities in the entire world.Although a more detailed methodology of my work can be found in the project itself, the following is a step by step walkthrough of my overall scientific process:Develop a question in relation to The Green Book to be solved through the completion of the project.Perform background research on The Green Book to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.Formulate a hypothesis that answers the proposed question based on the background research.Transcribe names and addresses for each of the hotel listings in The Green Book into a comma separated values file.Transcribe names and addresses for each of the restaurants listings in The Green Book into a comma separated values file.Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the 1940, 1950, 1960, and 1966 publications of The Green Book. A single line street base map representing the city's streets and other linear geographic features, along with feature names and address ranges for each addressable street segment. This dataset includes the Nodes file. The Nodes file contains a point feature and unique NodeID for each node that exists in the LION file. DOT Street Closure data identifies locations in the New York City Street Closure map where a street is subject to a full closure, restricting through traffic, for the purpose of conducting construction related activity on a City street. Details about DOT construction permits can be found at Street Works Manual, http://streetworksmanual.nyc. Full Closure Permits are issued for a period of time during which the street may be closed to through traffic for only a portion of the time, and open at other times.

NYS Building Footprints - metadata info:The New York State building footprints service contains building footprints with address information. The footprints have address point information folded in from the Streets and Address Matching (SAM - https://gis.ny.gov/streets/) address point file. The building footprints have a field called “Address Range”, this field shows (where available) either a single address or an address range, depending on the address points that fall within the footprint. Ex: 3860 Atlantic Avenue or Ex: 32 - 34 Wheatfield Circle Building footprints in New York State are from four different sources: Microsoft, Open Data, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and Geospatial Services. The majority of the footprints are from NYSERDA, except in NYC where the primary source was Open Data. Microsoft footprints were added where the other 2 sources were missing polygons. Field Descriptions: NYSGeo Source : tells the end user if the source is NYSERDA, Microsoft, NYC Open Data, and could expand from here in the futureAddress Point Count: the number of address points that fall within that building footprintAddress Range : If an address point falls within a footprint it lists the range of those address points. Ex: if a building is on a corner of South Pearl and Beaver Street, 40 points fall on the building, and 35 are South Pearl Street it would give the range of addresses for South Pearl. We also removed sub addresses from this range, primarily apartment related. For example, in above example, it would not list 30 South Pearl, Apartment 5A, it would list 30 South Pearl.Most Common Street : the street name of the largest number of address points. This data was collected as part of the Map the Moment initiative, a volunteer project to document the artwork and changes to the streetscape following the killing of George Floyd and the demonstrations that followed. This data was collected by Lisa Conte and processed by Joe Graham-Felsen. They used a Canon 5D Mark 3 to scan this data the various murals that appeared throughout the city. Broome Street runs east to west in Lower Manhattan, spanning nearly the entirety of Manhattan island. Amidst the Black Lives Matter demonstrations that defined the summer months of 2020, this street saw countless commercial spaces board up their windows with sheets of plywood. These boards were transformed into canvases for local artists and BLM supporters to express messages of justice and solidarity.
