The 2022 cartographic boundary KMLs are simplified representations of selected geographic areas from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). These boundary files are specifically designed for small-scale thematic mapping. When possible, generalization is performed with the intent to maintain the hierarchical relationships among geographies and to maintain the alignment of geographies within a file set for a given year. Geographic areas may not align with the same areas from another year. Some geographies are available as nation-based files while others are available only as state-based files. State Legislative Districts (SLDs) are the areas from which members are elected to state legislatures. The SLDs embody the upper (senate) and lower (house) chambers of the state legislature. Nebraska has a unicameral legislature and the District of Columbia has a single council, both of which the Census Bureau treats as upper-chamber legislative areas for the purpose of data presentation; there are no data by SLDL for either Nebraska or the District of Columbia. A unique three-character census code, identified by state participants, is assigned to each SLD within a state. In Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Puerto Rico, the Redistricting Data Program (RDP) participant did not define the SLDs to cover all of the state or state equivalent area. In these areas with no SLDs defined, the code "ZZZ" has been assigned, which is treated as a single SLD for purposes of data presentation. The generarlized boundaries in this file are based on the most recent state legislative district boundaries collected by the Census Bureau for the 2022 election year and provided by state-level participants through the RDP.

Legislative districts in Albany County, NY. County legislative districts are geographical subdivisions within a county that are used to elect members of the county legislative body or county council. The number of districts can vary depending on the size and population of the county, and the districts are often redrawn periodically to reflect changes in population. The purpose of county legislative districts is to ensure that all areas of the county are represented fairly in the county government. By dividing the county into smaller districts, each area can have its own representative who is responsible for advocating for the needs and interests of their constituents.

City Council is the nine-member legislative body for the City of Rochester that works in conjunction with the Mayor's Office to pass laws and govern the city. City Council is comprised of five at-large members who represent the entire city and four district members who are the voice for the South, Northwest, East, and Northeast sections of the city. The web map includes active and inactive Neighborhoods Associations within the City of Albany, New York. A Neighborhood Association in Albany can be described as a group of residents, property owners or stakeholders of a defined area, who have voluntarily organized themselves in order to advocate for their common interests and needs, as well as to preserve, protect and enhance their surrounding environment within the community. Neighborhood Associations are organized independent of City government. The community establishes boundaries based on a fusion of social and geographic factors (rather than legislative districts), where local (neighborhood) members freely self-identify and volunteer their participation and support. Albany's Neighborhood Associations may have an elected leader, established bylaws, and/or require dues from their members. Neighborhood Associations help facilitate quality of life improvements, mitigate issues, and provide a platform for community involvement. They create a sense of identity for our residents and are regarded by City government as a valuable resource for communication.
