    A vector polygon layer of all city and town boundaries in New York State. The source data was originally a compilation of U.S. Geological Survey 1:100,000-scale digital vector files and NYS Department of Transportation 1:24,000-scale and 1:75,000-scale digital vector files. Boundaries were revised to 1:24,000-scale positional accuracy and selectively updated based on municipal boundary reviews, court decisions and NYS Department of State Local Law filings for annexations, dissolutions, and incorporations. Currently, boundary changes are made based on NYS Department of State Local Law filings (http://locallaws.dos.ny.gov/). Additional updates and corrections are made as needed in partnership with municipalities.

    The last update to this data was completed on 6/22/2020, this update focused on reviewing existing waterbodies and folding in missing waterbodies for the Chemung HUC (02050105) and the Tioga HUC (02050104). The NHD is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. This high-resolution NHD, generally developed at 1:24,000/1:12,000 scale, adds detail to the original 1:100,000-scale NHD. Local resolution NHD is being developed where partners and data exist. The NHD contains reach codes for networked features, flow direction, names, and centerline representations for areal water bodies. Reaches are also defined on waterbodies and the approximate shorelines of the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean.     NYS Building Footprints - metadata info:The New York State building footprints service contains building footprints with address information. The footprints have address point information folded in from the Streets and Address Matching (SAM - https://gis.ny.gov/streets/) address point file. The building footprints have a field called “Address Range”, this field shows (where available) either a single address or an address range, depending on the address points that fall within the footprint. Ex: 3860 Atlantic Avenue or Ex: 32 - 34 Wheatfield Circle Building footprints in New York State are from four different sources: Microsoft, Open Data, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and Geospatial Services. The majority of the footprints are from NYSERDA, except in NYC where the primary source was Open Data. Microsoft footprints were added where the other 2 sources were missing polygons. Field Descriptions: NYSGeo Source : tells the end user if the source is NYSERDA, Microsoft, NYC Open Data, and could expand from here in the futureAddress Point Count: the number of address points that fall within that building footprintAddress Range : If an address point falls within a footprint it lists the range of those address points. Ex: if a building is on a corner of South Pearl and Beaver Street, 40 points fall on the building, and 35 are South Pearl Street it would give the range of addresses for South Pearl. We also removed sub addresses from this range, primarily apartment related. For example, in above example, it would not list 30 South Pearl, Apartment 5A, it would list 30 South Pearl.Most Common Street : the street name of the largest number of address points. In the above example, it would list “South Pearl” as the most common street since the majority of address points list it as the street. Other Streets: the list of other streets that fall within the building footprint, if any. In the above example, “Beaver Street” would be listed since address points for Beaver Street fall on the footprint but are not in the majority.County Name : County name populated from CIESINs. If not populated from CIESINs, identified by the GSMunicipality Name : Municipality name populated from CIESINs. If not populated from CIESINs, identified by the GSSource: Source where the data came from. If NYSGeo Source = NYSERDA, the data would typically list orthoimagery, LIDAR, county data, etc.Source ID: if NYSGeo Source = NYSERDA, Source ID would typically list an orthoimage or LIDAR tileSource Date: Date the footprint was created.     The Unpublished Digital Bedrock Geologic-GIS Map of Gateway National Recreation Area and Vicinity, New Jersey and New York is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables in a 10.1 file geodatabase (gwbr_geology.gdb), a 10.1 ArcMap (.MXD) map document (gwbr_geology.mxd), individual 10.1 layer (.LYR) files for each GIS data layer, an ancillary map information (.PDF) document (gate_geology.pdf) which contains source map unit descriptions, as well as other source map text, figures and tables, metadata in FGDC text (.TXT) and FAQ (.HTML) formats, and a GIS readme file (gwbr_gis_readme.pdf). Please read the gwbr_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the file geodatabase and other map files. To request GIS data in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format contact Stephanie O’Meara (stephanie.omeara@colostate.edu; see contact information below). The data is also available as a 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. Google Earth software is available for free at: http://www.google.com/earth/index.html. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: New Jersey Geological Survey and New York State Museum. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (gwbr_metadata_faq.html; available at http://nrdata.nps.gov/geology/gri_data/gis/gate/gwbr_metadata_faq.html). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:100,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 127 meters or 416.7 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in Google Earth, ArcGIS or other software used to display this dataset. All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.3. (available at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.cfm). The GIS data projection is NAD83, UTM Zone 18N, however, for the KML/KMZ format the data is projected upon export to WGS84 Geographic, the native coordinate system used by Google Earth. The data is within the area of interest of Gateway National Recreation Area.

    Description

    Features represent element occurrences of significant natural communities (ecological communities), as recorded in the New York Natural Heritage Program's Biodiversity Database (Biotics). An element occurrence is one natural community type at one location. Examples of community types include deep emergent marsh, red maple-hardwood swamp, dwarf shrub bog, hemlock-northern hardwood forest, and tidal creek. Natural community occurrences in this dataset are considered significant from a statewide perspective. NY Natural Heritage documents all occurrences of community types that are rare in New York State. For more common community types, NY Natural Heritage documents occurrences where the community at that location is ranked as being of excellent or good quality, by meeting specific, documented criteria for size, undisturbed and intact condition, and quality of the surrounding landscape. A natural community is an assemblage of interacting plant and animal populations that share a common environment; the particular assemblage of plant and animal species occurs across the landscape in areas with similar environmental conditions. Significant natural communities are rare or high-quality wetlands, forests, grasslands, ponds, streams, and other types of habitats, ecosystems, and natural areas. NY Natural Heritage tracks locations of significant natural communities because they serve as habitat for a wide range of plants and animals, both rare and common; and because community occurrences in good condition support intact ecological processes and provide ecological value and services.

    Publication Date: November 2017. This file only contains parcel data for NYS State-owned tax parcels. Parcel geometry was incorporated as received from County Real Property Departments. No attempt was made to edge-match parcels along adjacent counties. County attribute values were populated using 2016 Assessment Roll tabular data the NYS GIS Program Office (GPO) obtained from the NYS Department of Tax and Finance’s Office of Real Property Tax Services (ORPTS). This tabular data was joined to the county provided parcel geometry using the SWIS & SBL or SWIS & PRINT KEY unique identifier for each parcel. New York City attribute data comes from NYC MapPluto (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/data-maps/open-data/dwn-pluto-mappluto.page). Parcel polygons range from 2014 to 2017.

    The State-owned tax parcel polygons in this file are the result of a best effort selection based on the Primary Owner and Additional Owner fields in the NYS Statewide Tax Parcels file, GPO data, State agency data, and online research. These same data and information are also the basis for a best effort assignment of a NYS agency name (listed in the NYS Name field) to most tax parcel polygons where the Owner Type field value is State. The NYS Name Source field consists of a code that describes how the State-owned designation and agency name were determined, if this was verified, and the means of verification, if applicable.     Description

    The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The TIGER/Line shapefiles include both incorporated places (legal entities) and census designated places or CDPs (statistical entities). An incorporated place is established to provide governmental functions for a concentration of people as opposed to a minor civil division (MCD), which generally is created to provide services or administer an area without regard, necessarily, to population. Places always nest within a state, but may extend across county and county subdivision boundaries. An incorporated place usually is a city, town, village, or borough, but can have other legal descriptions. CDPs are delineated for the decennial census as the statistical counterparts of incorporated places. CDPs are delineated to provide data for settled concentrations of population that are identifiable by name, but are not legally incorporated under the laws of the state in which they are located. The boundaries for CDPs often are defined in partnership with state, local, and/or tribal officials and usually coincide with visible features or the boundary of an adjacent incorporated place or another legal entity. CDP boundaries often change from one decennial census to the next with changes in the settlement pattern and development; a CDP with the same name as in an earlier census does not necessarily have the same boundary. The only population/housing size requirement for CDPs is that they must contain some housing and population. The boundaries of most incorporated places in this shapefile are as of January 1, 2020, as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS). The boundaries of all CDPs were delineated as part of the Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) for the 2020 Census.

A vector polygon layer of all city and town boundaries in New York State. The source data was originally a compilation of U.S. Geological Survey 1:100,000-scale digital vector files and NYS Department of Transportation 1:24,000-scale and 1:75,000-scale digital vector files. Boundaries were revised to 1:24,000-scale positional accuracy and selectively updated based on municipal boundary reviews, court decisions and NYS Department of State Local Law filings for annexations, dissolutions, and incorporations. Currently, boundary changes are made based on NYS Department of State Local Law filings (http://locallaws.dos.ny.gov/). Additional updates and corrections are made as needed in partnership with municipalities.
