The GDB_FROM and GDB_TO fields show the date range that the feature existed in the National Incident Feature Service.The National Incident Feature Service is based on the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) data standard for Wildland Fire Event. The Wildland Fire Event data standard defines the minimum attributes necessary for collection, storage and dissemination of incident based data on wildland fires (wildfires and prescribed fires). The standard is not intended for long term data storage, rather a standard to assist in the creation of incident based data management tools, minimum standards for data exchange, and to assist users in meeting the NWCG Standards for Geospatial Operations (PMS 936).

Initial attack frequency zones are used by pilots and dispatchers for purposes of response to incidents such as wildland fires. Use of international initial attack frequency zones would be coordinated as needed by the Communications Duty Officer at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), Initial attack frequency zones are delineated to help ensure that frequencies used do not "bleed" over into other nearby incident areas causing issues for incident communications. The data contains no actual frequencies, but does contain the zone identifier. No Changes January 2025.

Direct Protection Area Polygons (DPA) as approved by the California Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (CWCG) as of March 2025. Each polygon has attribute information indicating the agency or organization with primary responsibility for wildland fire suppression in that area. Direct Protection Areas (DPA) are the areas which, by law or pursuant to the terms of this agreement, are provided wildland fire protection by the State or the Federal Agencies. DPA may include a mixture of state and federal responsibility areas (defined by the California Master Cooperative Wildland Fire Management and Stafford Act Response Agreement [CFMA]). This feature service was published by Information Management Fire and Aviation GIS for Region 5 of the USDA Forest Service. The Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group, or GeoMAC, is an internet-based mapping tool originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current fire locations and perimeters in the conterminous 48 states and Alaska. Perimeters are submitted to GeoMAC by field offices. The GeoMAC team attributes the perimeters using the IRWIN (Integrated Reporting of Wildland-Fire Information) system, and then posts them on the GeoMAC website and to an HTTP site for downloading. This file contains all fire perimeters that were submitted to GeoMAC by field offices for the current year. The projection is geographic and the datum is NAD83.
This dataset represents a time-enabled view of the NIFC-NWCG 7 Day Significant Fire Potential Index filtered down to California. It also includes a summary table for each regions index values for the next 7 days.This dataset is updated daily on a 15-minute interval from 5AM to 9AM PST.The primary responsibility of Predictive Services is to provide sound guidance to regional and national resource managers concerning current and projected “Significant Fire Potential”. The goal of this guidance is to help these managers make effective and efficient use of available resources. “Significant Fire Potential” is defined as “the likelihood that a wildland fire event will require mobilization of additional resources from outside the area in which the fire situation originates”.It is crucial to understand that although weather is a major contributor to Significant Fire Potential, this product is not a weather forecast. It is a forecast of Significant Fire Potential only, which is a function of fuel conditions, weather, and resource availability. The National Incident Feature Service (NIFS) is based on the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) data standard for Wildland Fire Event. The Wildland Fire Event data standard defines the minimum attributes necessary for collection, storage and dissemination of incident based data on wildland fires (wildfires and prescribed fires). The standard is not intended for long term data storage, rather a standard to assist in the creation of incident based data management tools, minimum standards for data exchange, and to assist users in meeting GIS Standard Operating Procedures on Incidents (GSTOP). The intent of this standard is to update existing data formats and provide a common set of attributes for use on wildland fires starting fire season 2016.
