On the right side of the dashboard you'll see some statistics about the records you are viewing on the map - these will be updated on-the-fly while you interact with the map or filters, so give it a moment to update (it may take a few seconds if > 100k records are updated). You can also use the dashboard to display the contents of individual records simply by clicking on an entry in the species table or on a sample location on the map.NIC Specimen Explorer MapUse the Specimen Explorer Map when you need to select and export individual sets of records into CSV files. It has tools built in for making selections of records and exporting these for your own further use cases.Filtering recordsBoth apps have a number of pre-defined filters - and by default what you see on the map is also what is shown in the other parts of an app - so try zooming in and out slow to allow the other parts of the up to update. The NIC Dashboard filters are on in the panel on the left side - try the "Display records w/Images (by Phylum)" option to update to map display and statistics. The Specimen Explorer Map filters are in the upper right hand corner - one of which will filter for records with images only. The other filter allows you to filter by the full taxonomical hierarchy - try that out (hint: it's best to start with the phylum filter and work your way down the hierarchy)._Item Page Created: 2021-10-15 01:04 Item Page Last Modified: 2025-04-05 16:13Owner: steinmetzt_NIWA

NIWA produces national climate change projections to help New Zealanders better understand their climate-related risks, improve decision-making for climate adaptation and support resilience to extreme weather events.Projections are downscales using our supercomputers and done for numerous variables as well as various time horizons and emission scenrios.NIWA works with industries (e.g. finance, insurance, energy) to help translate climate change scenarios into useful indices for decision making and actions (lending, insurance, asset management etc.)._Item Page Created: 2023-09-25 03:04 Item Page Last Modified: 2025-04-11 17:26Owner: NIWA_OpenData

This dataset contains data from research trawls that have occurred since 2008 and are stored the NIWA/MPI Trawl database These data results from data collected by research trawl surveys on research vessels and chartered commercial fishing vessels. Trawl surveys are a major tool used by research scientists for stock assessment. They are used to estimate basic parameters of commercial fish populations, including biomass, sex ratio, and the proportion of sexually mature fish, and the distribution of ages and lengths in the population. These parameters may be used in estimating mortality and growth rates.
This dataset is a continuation of data from the NIWA/MPI Trawl database that was initially released as the New Zealand fish and squid distributions from research bottom trawls 1964-2008 available at https://nzobisipt.niwa.co.nz/resource?r=obisprovider
LiDAR was captured for NIWA by Landpro from 11th September to 16th December 2023. The dataset was generated by Landpro and their subcontractors. Data management and distribution is by Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand.

Biodiversity data of the modern foraminifera in the New Zealand EEZ sourced from Dr Bruce Hayward at Geomarine Research. These data come from two projects: (1) modern deep-sea (100-5000 m water depth) foraminifera; and (2) a 7 year project (1991-1998) on the biodiversity and ecological distribution of modern brackish and shallow-water (0-100 m) foraminifera around New Zealand.
Ceratioid anglerfishes collected from New Zealand waters are reviewed on the basis of all known material. Twenty species in nine genera and six families are recognised; nine species represent new records for the region, and one species of Oneirodes is described as new to science. Diagnostic and descriptive data are given with notes on geographical distribution. Diagnoses of all ceratioid families are provided, against the possibility of capture within the New Zealand EEZCitation: A. L. Stewart & T. W. Pietsch (1998). The Discovery Investigations were a series of expeditions to the Southern Oceans funded out of proceeds from the sale of whaling licenses that took place between 1925 and 1951. The investigations had three main components: a marine laboratory at King Edward Point on South Georgia; the fast-sailing 326-ton RRS William Scoresby; and studies undertaken by the RSS Discovery. In 1929, the Discovery was replaced by the 1000-ton steel-hulled RRS Discovery II when the older ship was found to be simply too slow and cumbersome to carry out all the work required. A variety of sampling methods were deployed, including otter trawls, beam trawls, dredges, fish traps, and a variety of fine-meshed nets tow in the horizontal, vertical, or oblique.

This layer group describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Tangaroa TAN2021_V01 titled "NIWA TAN2113", which was carried out on a contract to the CSIRO MNF. The voyage took place between November 9 and December 4, 2021 departing from Wellington (NZ) and arriving in Wellington (NZ).
The purpose of the voyage was to recover Ocean-bottom seismometers deployed by the RV Investigator in 2020 (IN2020_V06) and acquire MBES and SBP data in the Macquarie Island region.
This dataset is published with the permission of CSIRO. Not to be used for navigational purposes.
The dataset contains bathymetry grids of 5m to 210m resolution of the Macquarie Island Ridge Complex, produced from the processed EM302 and EM2040 bathymetry data.
Lineage: Raw data (*.all files) from the EM302 and EM2040 were processed using QPS Qimera v2.4.2 for bathymetry and QPS GeoCoder Toolbox (FMGT) v7.10.0 for acoustic seafloor backscatter. Qimera generates *.qpd files from all survey *.all files, which include all edits made to the raw files. The quality of bathymetry data was examined, and surfaces of varying resolution generated for each survey area. The data were cleaned in both 2D and 3D manually, removing erroneous pings, gross errors, and obvious noise. For areas of consistently flat seafloor, a Medium Spline filter was used to automatically remove erroneous pings. These areas were checked by the multibeam operators to ensure no misclassification of good pings. Gridded bathymetric surfaces were projected in WGS84 / UTM zone 57S (EPSG:32757) coordinate reference system at varying resolutions during the voyage to aid further line planning and survey priorities. Bathymetry datasets were collated, and maps produced in ArcGIS Pro v2.8.3. Both MBES systems also record the acoustic returns of mid-water reflectors. Water column data from both EM302 and EM2040 systems were logged (as *.wcd files). These files were not processed on-board. The raw files were analysed for noise and cleaned manually. The data was gridded at multiple resolutions in python Caris batch script using a Depth filter Vs Resolution guideline derived from AusSeabed Multibeam guidelines v2 and further inspected for outliers. Final raster products are available in L3 folder of this collection. Final processed data were also exported per line as GSF and ASCII format and available in the L2 folder of this collection.

The goal of this “BSM-Fiji” campaign, from 7 to 27 May 2007, was to sample algae, sponges and ascidians so as to analyse the region’s biodiversity. Sampling was carried out in the provinces of Bua, Macuata (Vanua Levu Island), Cakaudrauve (Ringgold atolls), Lomaiviti (N’Gau Islands) and Kaduvu. This campaign was part of the CRISP (Coral Reef InitiativeS for the Pacific) program and formed Component 2C2 of the project as one of the programs designed to foster biodiversity through research on new natural substances of marine origin.
