    Description

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is an industry classification sytems developed by the statistical agencies of Canada, Mexico and the United States. NAICS is based on production-oriented principles, to ensure that industrial data, classified to NAICS, are suitable for the analysis of production-related issues such as industrial performance. NAICS Canada 2012 updates NAICS Canada 2007. The new version was implemented in 2013 to coincide with the integration of Statistics Canada's business surveys into a generalized operational model.

    Description

The Annual Survey of Manufactures List of Goods (ASM List of Goods) is a new system for classifying goods manufactured in Canada. It was used for the first time on the 2004 Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM) to classify both goods purchased and goods produced by Canadian manufacturers. Work has been initiated to integrate the ASM List of Goods into the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) which will be the standard for classifying both goods and services. The ASM List of Goods classifies products according to their industry of origin, that is, where in the economy they are primarily produced, based on the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS).

    Description

To help provide a level playing field for women business owners, the government limits competition for certain contracts to businesses that participate in the Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contracting Program (WOSB Program). These contracts are for specific industries where women-owned small businesses are substantially underrepresented. Some contracts are restricted further to economically disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSBs). SBA maintains a list of those eligible industries and their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes. Of the 759 eligible industries, 646 are designated for limited competition among all WOSB Program participants, and 113 are eligible for competition among only SBA-certified EDWOSBs. Congress requires SBA to conduct a study every five years to identify industries in which small businesses owned and controlled by women are underrepresented in the Federal marketplace. Please visit the most recent study.

    Description

The datasets comprise greenhouse gas (GHG) emission factors (Factors) for 1,016 U.S. commodities as defined by the 2017 version of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). The Factors are based on GHG data for 2022. Factors are given for all NAICS-defined commodities at the 6-digit level except for electricity, government, and households. Each record consists of three factor types as in the previous releases: Supply Chain Emissions without Margins (SEF), Margins of Supply Chain Emissions (MEF), and Supply Chain Emissions with Margins (SEF+MEF). One set of Factors provides kg carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) per 2022 U.S. dollar (USD) for all GHGs combined using 100-yr global warming potentials from IPCC 5th report (AR5) to calculate the equivalents. In this dataset there is one SEF, MEF and SEF+MEF per commodity. The other dataset of Factors provides kg of each unique GHG emitted per 2022 dollar per commodity without the CO2e calculation. The dollar in the denominator of all factors uses purchaser prices. See the supporting file 'Aboutv1.3SupplyChainGHGEmissionFactors.docx' for complete documentation of this dataset.

The 2022 York Region Business Directory contains just over 34,000 business listings. In the past, businesses were annually surveyed, either in person or by telephone to improve the accuracy of the directory. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, a survey was not complete in 2020 and 2021. The Region may return to annual surveying in future years, however the next employment survey will be in 2024. This listing also includes home-based businesses that participated in the 2022 employment survey. What is a NAIC code? The North American Industrial Classification (NAIC) coding system is a hierarchical classification system developed in Canada, Mexico and the United States. It was developed to allow for the comparison of business and employment information across a variety of industry categories. The NAICS has a hierarchical structure, designed as follows: Two-digits = sector (e.g., 31-33 contain the Manufacturing sectors) Three-digits = subsector (e.g., 336 = Transportation Equipment Manufacturing) Four-digits = industry group (e.g., 3361 = Motor Vehicle Manufacturing) Five-digits = industry (e.g., 33611 = Automobile and Light Duty Motor Vehicle Manufacturing) For more information on the NAIC coding system click here How do I add or update my business information in the York Region Business Directory? Description

In an effort to increase transparency and to facilitate access to information on substances in commerce in Canada, the Government of Canada is publishing a summary of the information received in response to the Notice to provide information for the risk management of certain coal tars and their distillates. The notice was published on December 1, 2018 in the Canada Gazette, Part I, Vol. 152, No. 48, pursuant to paragraph 71(1)(b) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA). Information gathered under the notice will be considered to determine whether to control, or the manner in which to control the risks posed by the substance. This summary offers an overview of the information gathered under the initiative and includes general information on what was received from persons subject to the notice, including: number and type of submissions; substances reported; activities (manufacture, import, use to manufacture); quantities; industry classification; and applications. The draft screening assessment report on certain coal tars and their distillates can be found on the Stream 0 substances in the Petroleum Sector Stream Approach webpage. To complement this summary, data compilation tables, containing additional details on the non-confidential information received, are available for download in Microsoft Excel and comma-separated value (CSV) format. Important information about this summary: In order to protect confidential business information (CBI), quantity ranges and exclusion of qualitative data elements have been applied in some cases. Qualitative data includes information that characterizes and categorizes information [e.g. company names, North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, specified uses, and Application codes]. The dataset does not include CBI, consequently, the figures presented may be an underestimate. Code C999 "Other" was provided for an Application code, it indicates that the codes listed in the notice did not apply and a description was required. Please refer to the notice for the full list of codes and their corresponding descriptions. Description

The Statistical Abstract is the Nation's best known and most popular single source of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the country. The print version of this reference source has been published since 1878 while the compact disc version first appeared in 1993. This disc is designed to serve as a convenient, easy-to-use statistical reference source and guide to statistical publications and sources. The disc contains over 1,400 tables from over 250 different gove rnmental, private, and international organizations. The 1999 CD reflects improved and enhanced data on the disc and the software used for accessing the information. The enrichments to the data and their access include: a link for table of contents page to a PDF of The Census web site. This enable the user to have direct links to the Statistical Abstract and its supplements and other features, such as Statistics in Brief and Frequently Requested Tables. A link to the table of contents from the first text page of each section facilitates quick movement between sections of the book. New PDFs provide more explanation of several major economic series including the Federal Budget, the National Income and Product Accounts (NIPA), the Consumer Price Index (CPI)and Producer Price Index (PPI), and the new North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Another PDF provides information on the Federal court system. Links to these supplemental materials are provided from each appropriate table. A separate PDF presents a compilation of tables showing major economic indices, as selected by the Council of Economic Advisors. Maps of each state and their metro areas and component counties, maps outlining National Park sites throughout the country, a map of the United States with major transportation facilities and routes, a U.S.map locating coal mines and facilities, and one depicting the distribution of forest land have been added. As usual, updates have been made to most of the more than 1,500 tables and charts that were on the previous disc with new or more recent data. The spreadsheet files, which are available in both Excel and Lotus formats, will usually have more information than the tables displayed in the book or Adobe Acrobat files. The 1999 year introduced over 100 new tables covering a wide range of subject areas. Several sections have preliminary data from the 1997 Economic Census, which presents industry statistics for the first time based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Comparative data for 1992 and 1997, based on the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC), are also presented. Tables 872 and 873 in Section 17, Business, present summary data for industries. Other new tables cover such topics as the foreign-born population, health care expenditures, the medicare trust fund, violence in schools, presale handgun checks, recycling programs, defense- related employment and spending, workplace violence, ownership of mutual funds, computer use, results of the 1997 Census of Agriculture, and mail order catalogue sales. In addition to the above new tables, a new section has been developed, the 20th Century Statistics. This section introduces data beginning in 1900 on a broad range of subjects, including population, vital statistics, health, education, income, labor force, communications, agriculture, defense, and other areas. The Industrial Outlook tables, previously in Section 31, have been deleted for lack of updates. For a complete list of new tables, see Appendix VI,p.947. The Adobe Acrobat Reader and Search engine, Version 4.0, is on the disc. The Acrobat Reader allows users to view, navigate, search, and print on demand any of the pages from the book. Note to Users: This CD is part of a collection located in the Data Archive of the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collection is located in Room 10, Manning Hall. Users may check the CDs out subscribing to the honor system. Items can be checked out for a period of two weeks. Loan forms are located adjacent to the collection.

    Description

Information received in response to the 2017 Inventory Update (chemicals and polymers) To increase transparency and to facilitate access to information on manufactured and/or imported substances in Canada, the Government of Canada is providing a summary of the information received in response to the Notice with respect to substances included as part of the 2017 Inventory Update, (the Notice) which was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I in January 2017 under section 71 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999. The Notice was applicable to the 2014 and 2015 calendar years with the requirement to report for the most recent calendar year. The information will be used to update the commercial status of these substances, to inform priority setting, and to support risk assessment and risk management activities. In line with communicating information received in response to information gathering initiatives, the Government of Canada published the Approach to disclose confidential information and promote transparency in chemicals management. The files in the resources section below offer an overview of the information gathered under this initiative including: • type of submission; • reported substances; • substances that are manufactured or imported; • industrial sectors involved; • substance functions and commercial uses reported; and • intended use (in commercial activity, in consumer activity, and by children). It should be noted that these documents do not include an assessment of the potential risks these substances may pose to the environment or to the health of Canadians. To complement the information summary document, a compilation of the non-confidential information received is available for download in Excel and CSV format and includes a list of the substances for which no information was submitted. Important information about this summary: In order to protect confidential business information, quantity ranges and exclusion of qualitative data elements have been applied in some cases. Qualitative data includes information that characterizes and categorizes information [e.g., company names, North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, specified uses, Substance Function Codes, and Consumer and Commercial Codes]. The dataset does not include confidential business information; consequently, the figures presented may be an underestimate. Code 999 "Other" was provided for a Substance Function Code or a Consumer and Commercial Code, it indicates that the codes listed in the Notice did not apply and a description of the function or use was required. Please refer to the Notice or guidance document for the full list of codes and their corresponding descriptions.
