"Log Into North Carolina" or LINC is an interactive data retrieval service containing historical information for over 900 data items and a variety of geographic areas within the state. Topics include population, labor force, education, transportation, revenue, agriculture, vital statistics, energy and utilities, and other topics for a variety of geographic areas. Most data are available for all 100 counties. Some items are available for municipalities. Others, especially census data, may be retrieved for tracts and townships.LINC is evolving with new data and enhanced features to include data visualization, bulk data downloads, and mapping. The new version of LINC allows the public to view data but also allows registered users to save visualizations and receive notifications of dataset updates.

The North Carolina State Center for Health Services (SCHS) collects yearly vital statistics. The Odum Institute holds vital statistics beginning in 1968 for deaths, marriages and divorce. Public marriage and divorce data are available through 1999 only. Vital statistics for births, fetal deaths, and birth/infant deaths may be obtained directly from SCHS by submitting a request to SCHS.Info@dhhs.nc.gov This study focuses on deaths in North Carolina in 2021. Death is defined as the permanent disappearance of any evidence of life at any time after live birth. This definition excludes fetal deaths. The data kept for deaths includes the age, race, marital status, and sex of the individual; date, time, cause and location of death; and mode of burial. Minor changes to the files beginning in 2014 reflect the release of an updated NC Death Certificate form in that year. The data are strictly numerical; there is no identifying information given about the individuals.

In the simulation study section of the manuscript, we simulate synthetic data that closely match some of the key features of the birth certificate data while maintaining confidentiality of any actual pregnant women. Availability Due to the highly sensitive and identifying information contained in the birth certificate data (including latitude/longitude and address of residence at delivery), we are unable to make the data from the application section publicly available. However, we will make one of the simulated datasets available for any reader interested in applying the method to realistic simulated birth records data. This will also allow the user to become familiar with the required inputs of the model, how the data should be structured, and what type of output is obtained. While we cannot provide the application data here, access to the North Carolina birth records can be requested through the North Carolina State Center for Health Statistics and requires an appropriate data use agreement. Description Permissions: These are simulated data without any identifying information or informative birth-level covariates. We also standardize the pollution exposures on each week by subtracting off the median exposure amount on a given week and dividing by the interquartile range (IQR) (as in the actual application to the true NC birth records data). The dataset that we provide includes weekly average pregnancy exposures that have already been standardized in this way while the medians and IQRs are not given. This further protects identifiability of the spatial locations used in the analysis. File format: R workspace file. The North Carolina State Demographer data platform houses the latest data produced by the Office of the State Demographer. This data set contains annual quantities and value for all seafood products that are landed and sold by established seafood dealers and brokers in the Southeast Region (North Carolina through Texas). These types of data, referred to as the general canvass landings statistics, have been collected by the NOAA Fisheries Service, National Marine Fisheries Service and its predecessor agency, the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries. The data are available on computer since the early 1960's. The quantities and values that are reported in this data set include the annual landings that were initiated in 1962. Beginning in 1976, the data were collected monthly. See the sections on Links for the reference to the monthly general canvass landings. The annual general canvass landings include quantities and value for all living marine species and are identified by species (usually the local or common name). These data were collected by field agents employed by the National Marine Fisheries Service or the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries and assigned to local fishing ports. The agents contacted the majority of the seafood dealers or brokers in their assigned areas and recorded the quantities and value for each species or species category from the sales receipts maintained by the seafood dealers. In addition, information on the gear and area of capture is available for most of the landings statistics in the data set. Based on their knowledge of the fishing activity in the area, the agents would estimate the type of fishing gear and area where the fishing was likely to have occurred. More detailed information on the caveats associated with these data is provided in the Characteristics, Caveats and Issues section. However, because these data are summaries, they do not contain information on the quantities of fishing effort or identifications of the fishermen or vessels that caught the fish or shellfish.
