Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro 3.X map file (.mapx) file (calo_geomorphology.mapx) and individual Pro 3.X layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) a readme file (calo_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (calo_geomorphology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (calo_geomorphology_metadata_faq.pdf). Please read the calo_geology_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the GIS data and other map files. Google Earth software is available for free at: https://www.google.com/earth/versions/. QGIS software is available for free at: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). For a complete listing of GRI products visit the GRI publications webpage: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/geology/geologic-resources-inventory-products.htm. Description

The North Carolina State and County Boundary vector polygon data provides location information for North Carolina State and County Boundary lines derived from the best available survey and/or Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Sources for information are the North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS), NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), United States Geological Survey (USGS), and field surveys conducted by licensed surveyors in North Carolina and neighboring states that have been approved and recorded in their respective counties. North Carolina Geodetic Survey assists counties on a cooperative basis (NC General Statute 153A-18) in defining and monumenting the location of uncertain or disputed boundaries as established by law. Some counties have completed boundary surveys for at least a portion of their county boundary. However, the majority of county boundaries have not been surveyed and are represented by the best currently available data from GIS sources, including NCDOT county maps (which originally came from the USGS) and updated county parcel maps.

    Description

The North Carolina Natural Heritage Program"s Managed Areas are primarily a collection of fee simple properties and easements where natural resource conservation is one of the primary management goals. It does include a number of properties and easements that are not primarily managed for conservation, but that are of conservation interest. This conservation interest ranges from properties and easements which support rare species and intact, high-quality natural communities to those that are open spaces in places where open space is scarce. Lands that are Dedicated Nature Preserves or Registered Heritage Areas are found in this data set. These data are the current equivalent of the Conservation Tax Credit Properties and Land Trust Conservation Properties data set. Some of the Managed Areas represented in this data set are on private land and are not open to the public. Written permission should be obtained from all appropriate landowners before visiting any of these sites.NOTE: This is a large dataset and compiling the download using the map may take some time or fail. The data is also available as an Esri shapefile in a ZIP download from the North Carolina Natural Heritage Program"s Data Explorer data download page (https://ncnhde.natureserve.org/content/data-download).

The North Carolina Geological Survey (NCGS) within the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), in cooperation with the North Carolina Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (CGIA), developed the GIS data set version of the Geologic Map of North Carolina 1985. The data represents the digital equivalent of the official State Geology map (1:500,000- scale), but was digitized from (1:250,000-scale) base maps. There is one additional data set which accompany this layer, dikes. This geology is deprecated. There is currently no replacement for it that covers the whole state. We are working on a replacement that will be made available to the public in the near future (2025). This new data set will be in the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Geologic Map Schema (GeMS). When first released this data set will only cover a portion of the State at a scale of 1:100,000. This dataset will be dynamic and expand to cover the whole state by as early as 2030.

Please read the calo_geology_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the GIS data and other map files. QGIS software is available for free at: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/. For more information about the Geologic Resources Inventory Program visit the GRI webpage: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/geology/gri.htm. At the bottom of that webpage is a "Contact Us" link if you need additional information. You may also directly contact the program coordinator, Jason Kenworthy (jason_kenworthy@nps.gov). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: North Carolina Geological Survey. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (prti_geomorphology_metadata.txt or prti_geomorphology_metadata_faq.pdf). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:24,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 12.2 meters or 40 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in ArcGIS Pro, QGIS or other software used to display this dataset. All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.3. (available at: https://www.nps.gov/articles/gri-geodatabase-model.htm).

    Description

This shapefile (polygon geometry) represents the boundary of Carteret County according to surveys by the North Carolina Geodetic Survey. Data from the N.C. Department of Transportation, U.S. Geological Survey, and N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources were also used to create the shapefile. The data were incorporated into the Carteret County GIS database on December 4th, 2015. Prior to the acquisition of this data from the state, the county boundary was defined based on surveys completed by Carteret County prior to the1980's. The projected coordinate system for the data is NAD_1983_StatePlane_North_Carolina_FIPS_3200_Feet, the projection is Lambert Conformal Conic, and the linear units are in feet. The geographic coordinate system is GCS_North_American_1983 and the angular unit is in degrees.
