    Description

    The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The primary legal divisions of most states are termed counties. In Louisiana, these divisions are known as parishes. In Alaska, which has no counties, the equivalent entities are the organized boroughs, city and boroughs, municipalities, and for the unorganized area, census areas. The latter are delineated cooperatively for statistical purposes by the State of Alaska and the Census Bureau. In four states (Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia), there are one or more incorporated places that are independent of any county organization and thus constitute primary divisions of their states. These incorporated places are known as independent cities and are treated as equivalent entities for purposes of data presentation. The District of Columbia and Guam have no primary divisions, and each area is considered an equivalent entity for purposes of data presentation. The Census Bureau treats the following entities as equivalents of counties for purposes of data presentation: Municipios in Puerto Rico, Districts and Islands in American Samoa, Municipalities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas is covered by counties or equivalent entities. The boundaries for counties and equivalent entities are as of January 1, 2017, primarily as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).

    In the spring of 2017, the Commonwealth of Virginia, through the Virginia Geographic Information Network Division (herein referred to as VGIN) of the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) contracted with Fugro Geospatial, Inc. to provide aerial data acquisition, ground control, aerial triangulation and development of statewide ortho quality DEM and digital orthophotography data. The Virginia Base Mapping Program (VBMP) update project is divided into three collection phases: In 2017, Fugro flew the eastern third of Virginia at one foot resolution, with options for localities and other interested parties to upgrade resolution or purchase other optional products through the state contract. The middle third of Virginia will be flown in 2018 and the western third in 2019. Ortho products are 1-foot resolution statewide with upgrades to 6-inch resolution tiles and 3-inch resolution tiles in various regions within the project area. The Virginia Base Mapping project encompasses the entire land area of the Commonwealth of Virginia over 4 years. The State boundary is buffered by 1000'. Coastal areas of the State bordering the Atlantic Ocean or the Chesapeake Bay are buffered by 1000' or the extent of man-made features extending from shore. This metadata record describes the generation of new Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and contours generated at 2-foot intervals. All products are being delivered in the North American Datum of 1983 (1986), State Plane Virginia North. The vertical datum was the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) using GEOID12B.

    These data were created as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office for Coastal Management's efforts to create an online mapping viewer called the Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer. It depicts potential sea level rise and its associated impacts on the nation's coastal areas. The purpose of the mapping viewer is to provide coastal managers and scientists with a preliminary look at sea level rise (slr) and coastal flooding impacts. The viewer is a screening-level tool that uses nationally consistent data sets and analyses. Data and maps provided can be used at several scales to help gauge trends and prioritize actions for different scenarios. The Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer may be accessed at: http://www.coast.noaa.gov/slr This metadata record describes the digital elevation model (DEM), which is a part of a series of DEMs produced for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office for Coastal Management's Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer described above.     The Commonwealth of Virginia grants certain powers to incorporated municipalities. There are seven towns in the County. Washington Dulles International Airport is also included due to its jurisdictional authority.

    Purpose: Town boundaries can define the limits of zoning, and other police powers, and the provision of services by both the towns and the County. Jurisdictional authority is represented for each of the seven towns and Washington Dulles International Airport.

    Supplemental Information: Data are stored in the corporate ArcSDE Geodatabase as a feature class. The coordinate system is Virginia State Plane (North), Zone 4501, datum NAD83 HARN. The first town to be incorporated in Loudoun was Leesburg in 1757.

    Maintenance and Update Frequency: As Needed

    Town boundaries are updated within 1-2 weeks of the date of receipt of recorded documents associated with annexations. Recorded documents are generally received from the Department of Financial Services within 4-6 weeks of the date of recordation. Town boundaries are checked for coincidence with parcel boundaries approximately once every six months.

    Completeness Report: Features may have been eliminated or generalized due to scale and intended use. To assist Loudoun County, Virginia in the maintenance of the data, please provide any information concerning discovered errors, omissions, or other discrepancies found in the data.

    Building Footprints are a base map data layer derived by automated processes and processed for cartographic representation at 1:2400 scale. The polygon features represent the outlines of buildings and structures as seen from above and are mapped to National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). Purpose: Building footprints are used as reference points in the parcel mapping process and in address assignment. They are also used in the provision of emergency services. Supplemental Information: OMAGI updates all base map data via a photogrammetric process, using aerial imagery that is flown yearly in phases. A different portion of the County is updated each year with the base map maintenance services contract, depending upon development patterns and update funding. See "Lineage" section, in the full FGDC version, for the list of extents for each Phase area, which are listed as Data Sources. For a map of the most recent reviews and updates within the county, pleaseclick here. Data are stored in the corporate ArcSDE Geodatabase as a polygon feature class.     A parcel is a tract or plot of land surveyed and defined by legal ownership. Data were compiled from plats and deeds recorded at the Clerk of the Court and from historic tax maps. Source material was digitized or the coordinates were entered into the database via ARC/INFO Coordinate Geometry (COGO). Digital data from engineering companies has also been incorporated for newer subdivisions. A MCPI number is used to identify each parcel, which is a unique ID number further explained below. Purpose: Parcels are used to support a variety of services including assessment, permitting, subdivision review, planning, zoning, and economic development. Parcel data were initially developed to replace existing tax maps. As a result, there are parcel polygons digitized from tax maps that do not represent land parcels but are taxable entities such as leaseholds or easements. Supplemental Information: Data are stored in the corporate ArcSDE Geodatabase as a feature class. The coordinate system is Virginia State Plane (North), Zone 4501, datum NAD83 HARN. Maintenance and Update Frequency: Parcels are updated on an hourly basis from recorded deeds and plats. Depending on volume and date of receipt of recordation information, data may be updated 2-3 weeks following recordation. Completeness Report: Features may have been eliminated or generalized due to scale and intended use. To assist Loudoun County, Virginia in the maintenance of the data, please provide any information concerning discovered errors, omissions, or other discrepancies found in the data. MCPI: 9 digit unique parcel ID that is a combination of: MAP, CELL, and PARCEL. MAP: 3 digit map number (001-701) corresponding with map tile index. CELL: 2 digit map grid location of parcel center; the grid is comprised of 1000 by 1000 ft grid cells numbered as rows and columns (Columns numbered > 5 6 7 8 9 0; Rows numbered > 1 2 3 4). PARCEL: 4 digit location of polygon center based on the 1927 Virginia State Plane coordinate grid where an easting and northing measurement is taken. example: 6654 from: E 2229668 N475545. The MAP, CELL, and PARCEL values of a parcel do not change when a parcel is altered by a boundary line adjustment or becomes residue from a subdivision. The MAP, CELL, and PARCEL values may therefore be inconsistent with the location of polygon center. MAP, CELL, and PARCEL values have been manually altered for some parcels to agree with other databases; as a result, not all parcels can be located by the MAP, CELL, and PARCEL values.     Street centerline was originally developed from the road features on the County's 1:2400 base map. Both address range and a link to street names are included as data attributes. The current data is collected from recorded plats in DXF format or is digitized from plats. The data covers the entire County as well as the incorporated Towns. Purpose: The street centerline coverage was originally developed to support addressing. Fire & Rescue Services and the Sheriff's Office use the address range information for Emergency 911 dispatching; it is also used to update U.S. Census Bureau Tiger data in support of the decennial census. Supplemental Information: Centerline data are maintained from plats and site plans prepared by engineering and surveying firms. Although street centerline is the most current of the County's street data, deviation in construction after plat submittal and recordation may cause centerline to differ from similar County layer, road casing. Centerline contains the most current data; road casing is spatially more accurate because it is updated photogrammetrically. These data are not intended to be used for local surveys or at a scale larger than 1:2400. Data are stored in the corporate ArcSDE Geodatabase as a feature class. The coordinate system is Virginia State Plane (North), Zone 4501, datum NAD83 HARN. Maintenance and Update Frequency: Data is updated on a daily basis. Completeness Report: Features may have been eliminated or generalized due to scale and intended use.     The Virginia Scenic Rivers Program was enabled by the Virginia Scenic Rivers Act of 1970. Within Loudoun County are two Virginia-designated scenic rivers - Catoctin Creek from Waterford to the confluence of the Potomac, and Goose Creek from the confluence of the north and south prongs near Linden to the confluence of the Potomac. These creeks are represented in the Loudoun County GIS using the base map drainage data, which is collected via a planimetric update process from aerial photography and processed for a cartographic representation at 1:2400 Scale, and are mapped to National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS).     THIS MAP SHOWS THE FOLLOWING:Designated Highways on the state-maintained system. The National Network and Virginia Qualifying Highways include all interstates and certain other highways respectively, with one road-mile of access permissible off these routes to access terminals, fuel, food, rest, and repairs (except in cities and towns, or in Henrico and Arlington Counties where permission is required from those localities). The Virginia Access portion includes certain other primary and secondary routes where no access is allowed off the system. LIMITATIONS & EXCLUSIONS REGARDING TRUCK ROUTES & RESTRICTIONS PROVIDED ON THIS MAP1. The information presented applies only to the highway systems maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Additional STAA access or restrictions may apply in incorporated cities and towns, and on secondary roads (numbered 600 or higher) in Henrico and Arlington Counties.2. Access to, or restrictions on, the indicated routes for the specified vehicles is applicable unless other restrictions or limitations apply due to weight, height, or width; incidents or construction; or as otherwise indicated by signs on the highway.3. To the best of our knowledge the information provided is updated on a weekly basis or as received from Districts. It is the responsibility of the highway user to ensure their information is current and correct.A permit for additional access off the state maintained system may be requested by contacting the Department of Motor Vehicles at (804) 497-7135. The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The primary legal divisions of most states are termed counties. In Louisiana, these divisions are known as parishes. In Alaska, which has no counties, the equivalent entities are the organized boroughs, city and boroughs, municipalities, and for the unorganized area, census areas. The latter are delineated cooperatively for statistical purposes by the State of Alaska and the Census Bureau. In four states (Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia), there are one or more incorporated places that are independent of any county organization and thus constitute primary divisions of their states. These incorporated places are known as independent cities and are treated as equivalent entities for purposes of data presentation. The District of Columbia and Guam have no primary divisions, and each area is considered an equivalent entity for purposes of data presentation. The Census Bureau treats the following entities as equivalents of counties for purposes of data presentation: Municipios in Puerto Rico, Districts and Islands in American Samoa, Municipalities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas is covered by counties or equivalent entities. The boundaries for counties and equivalent entities are as of January 1, 2017, primarily as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).
