    Description

    This data set contains small-scale base GIS data layers compiled by the National Park Service Servicewide Inventory and Monitoring Program and Water Resources Division for use in a Baseline Water Quality Data Inventory and Analysis Report that was prepared for the park. The report presents the results of surface water quality data retrievals for the park from six of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) national databases: (1) Storage and Retrieval (STORET) water quality database management system; (2) River Reach File (RF3) Hydrography; (3) Industrial Facilities Discharges; (4) Drinking Water Supplies; (5) Water Gages; and (6) Water Impoundments. The small-scale GIS data layers were used to prepare the maps included in the report that depict the locations of water quality monitoring stations, industrial discharges, drinking intakes, water gages, and water impoundments. The data layers included in the maps (and this dataset) vary depending on availability, but generally include roads, hydrography, political boundaries, USGS 7.5' minute quadrangle outlines, hydrologic units, trails, and others as appropriate. The scales of each layer vary depending on data source but are generally 1:100,000.

    The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of the Trail Canyon Quadrangle, Colorado is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) a 10.1 file geodatabase (trca_geology.gdb), and a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro map file (.mapx) file (trca_geology.mapx) and individual Pro layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer), as well as with a 2.) 10.1 ArcMap (.mxd) map document (trca_geology.mxd) and individual 10.1 layer (.lyr) files (for each GIS data layer). Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) a readme file (meve_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (meve_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (trca_geology_metadata_faq.pdf).     The files linked to this reference are the geospatial data created as part of the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Current format is ArcGIS file geodatabase but older formats may exist as shapefiles. Mapping vegetation of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (APPA, also referred to as the “AT corridor” for the Appalachian Trail corridor) involved the following six primary steps: (1) preliminary map classification with a vegetation primer for each APPA project area, (2) field reconnaissance for each APPA project area, (3) map classification by each APPA project area, (4) aerial image interpretation and mapping by each APPA project area, (5) compilation of a final classification and map layer covering the entire AT corridor following accuracy assessment (AA), and (6) database development of the map layer. Although these steps proceeded sequentially, they overlap to some degree. Steps 1–4 proceeded sequentially by APPA project area starting in the Southern Blue Ridge (SBR) project area in 2010, moving north to the Central Appalachian (CAP) project area in 2011, then to the Lower New England (LNE) project area in 2012, and ending in the Northern Appalachian (NAP) project area in 2013. (See Figures 6–9 in the “Introduction and Project Overview” section of this report for detailed locations of the four APPA project areas.) Steps 5 and 6 compiled all APPA project areas into a contiguous map classification and map layer. Summary reports generated from the vegetation map layer of the map classes representing USNVC natural (including ruderal) vegetation types apply to 28,242 polygons (92.9% of polygons) and cover 106,413.0 ha (95.9%) of the map extent for APPA. The map layer indicates APPA to be 92.4% forest and woodland (102,480.8 ha), 1.7% shrubland (1866.3 ha), and 1.8% herbaceous cover (2,065.9 ha). Map classes representing park-special vegetation (undefined in the USNVC) apply to 58 polygons (0.2% of polygons) and cover 404.3 ha (0.4%) of the map extent. Map classes representing USNVC cultural types apply to 1,777 polygons (5.8% of polygons) and cover 2,516.3 ha (2.3%) of the map extent. Map classes representing nonvegetated water (non-USNVC) apply to 332 polygons (1.1% of polygons) and cover 1,586.2 ha (1.4%) of the map extent.

    This data set contains small-scale base GIS data layers compiled by the National Park Service Servicewide Inventory and Monitoring Program and Water Resources Division for use in a Baseline Water Quality Data Inventory and Analysis Report that was prepared for the park. The report presents the results of surface water quality data retrievals for the park from six of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) national databases: (1) Storage and Retrieval (STORET) water quality database management system; (2) River Reach File (RF3) Hydrography; (3) Industrial Facilities Discharges; (4) Drinking Water Supplies; (5) Water Gages; and (6) Water Impoundments.     Description

    Geologic-Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data related to Appalachian National Scenic Trail is delivered in a data package Zip (.zip) file. These data are a product of the NPS Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, which is funded by the Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division and administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD).Geologic-GIS data for Appalachian National Scenic Trail consists of geologic map footprints of available maps that intersect the 7.5’ quadrangles of interest (QOI) for the park. Each footprint depicts the respective map’s extent and contains information conveying map name, scale, publication year and type. The footprints are joined using a footprint ID as a key to a standalone table that contains a formal map reference, a Boolean showing if GIS data is available, additional map notes, and a URL link t o where the map can be downloaded, if available. Geologic-GIS map footprints are provided in ESRI file geodatabase format supported by a Pro 3.X map (.mapx) file. The Pro 3.x map displays the footprint data in thematic layers categorizing and symbolizing the footprints by publication year, map type, and scale.

Description

These ESRI shape files are of National Park Service tract and boundary data that was created by the Land Resources Division. Tracts are numbered and created by the regional cartographic staff at the Land Resources Program Centers and are associated to the Land Status Maps. This data should be used to display properties that NPS owns and properties that NPS may have some type of interest such as scenic easements or right of ways.
