Fire severity is a metric of the loss of biomass caused by fire. In collaboration with the NSW Rural Fire Service, DPE Remote Sensing & Regulatory Mapping team has developed a semi-automated approach to mapping fire extent and severity through a machine learning framework based on sentinel 2 satellite imagery. The statewide severity map has standardised classes to allow comparison of different fires across the landscape. The FESM severity classes include: unburnt, low severity (burnt understory, unburnt canopy), moderate severity (partial canopy scorch), high severity (complete canopy scorch, partial canopy consumption), extreme (full canopy consumption).
This dataset represents the 2017/18 fire year, including wildfires >100ha with fire start date between July 2017 and June 2018.

This map is one of a series of soil landscape maps that are intended for all of central and eastern NSW, based on standard 1:100,000 and 1:250,000 topographic sheets. The map provides an inventory of soil and landscape properties of the area and identifies major soil and landscape qualities and constraints. It integrates soil and topographic features into single units with relatively uniform land management requirements. Soils are described in terms of soil materials in addition to the Australian Great Soil Group and Northcote classification systems. Related Datasets: The dataset area is also covered by the mapping of the Soil and Land Resources of the Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment, Acid Sulphate Soil Risk Mapping and Hydrogeological landscapes of NSW. Online Maps: This and related datasets can be viewed using eSPADE (NSW’s soil spatial viewer), which contains a suite of soil and landscape information including soil profile data. Many of these datasets have hot-linked soil reports. The NSW Imagery web service provides access to a repository of the Spatial Services (DCS) maintained standard imagery covering NSW, plus additional sourced imagery. It depicts an imagery map of NSW showing a selection of LANDSAT® satellite imagery, standard 50cm orthorectified imageries, High resolution 10cm Town Imageries. It also contains high resolution imageries within multiple areas of NSW within DFSI, Spatial Services maintained projects and captured by AAM, VEKTA and Jacobs (previously SKM). The image web service is updated periodically when new imageries are available. The imageries are shown progressively from scales larger than 1:150,000 higher resolution imagery overlays lower resolution imagery and most recent imagery overlays older imagery within each resolution. The characteristics of each image such as accuracy, resolution, viewing scale, image format etc varies by sensor, location, capture methodology, source and processing. For specific information about the metadata for the imagery used, please refer to the individual data series within the NSW Data Catalogue. The map presents the distribution of the likelihood of koala occurrence across NSW based on publicly available data held in the Atlas of NSW Wildlife (www.bionet.nsw.gov.au). The proportion (’p’ column) of koalas (‘Koala’ column) recorded relative to a suite of arboreal mammals is presented in a 10 kilometre grid across NSW. A separate 5 kilometre grid is also available for Koala Management Area (KMA) 1 – North Coast. A measure of the confidence (‘Conf’ column) in the likelihood estimate is also presented. \r In KMA 1 Atlas of NSW Wildlife (Bionet) record data has been supplemented with data from koala spot assessment (SAT) survey along with “rapid SAT” method undertaken where major data deficiencies remained. SAT surveys observation efforts and resulting koala records were used in the same manner as arboreal mammal records.
