The 1992 Census of Agriculture presents statistics for States and the United States. The census has taken a census every fifth year after 1983 covering the prior year. This adjustment in timing established the agriculture census on a 5-year cycle collecting data for years ending in 2 and 7. In keeping with the provisions of Title 13, United States Code, no data are published that would disclose the operations of an individual farm. However, the number of farms in a given size category or othe r classification, such as size of farm, is not considered a release of confidential information and is provided even though other information is withheld. The census of agriculture is the leading source of statistics about the Nation's agricultural production and the only source of consistent, comparable data at the county, State, and national levels. Census statistics are used by Congress in developing and changing farm programs and for determining the effects of these programs. Many national and State programs are designed or allocated on the basis of census data, such as funds for extension services, research, and soil conservation projects. The current CD contains Farms by ZIP code (1992) Census and Farms by ZIP code ( (1987) census.

The Farm to School Census measures USDA's progress toward improving access to local foods in schools. The web-based interface allows users to run customized searches using data from the Farm to School Census. From a total of 18,104 public, private, and charter school districts in the target list frame, 12,585 schools and school districts completed usable responses for a response rate of 70%. Visualizations display national and state level data, and explanatory notes for each portion of the survey questionnaire are provided. Users can focus their search by location/state/school district/zip code, participation level, local food purchased category (fruit, vegetables, fluid milk, other dairy, meat/poultry, eggs, seafood, plant-based protein, grains/flour, baked goods, herbs), and sources (purchased directly or through intermediary). The economic census is the major source of facts about the structure and functioning of the Nation's economy. This disc includes statistical information tabulated by ZIP Code from the 1987 and 1982 Economic Censuses and the 1987 Census of Agriculture, including: Retail trade 1987 and 1982 Service industries 1987 Manufactures 1987 Agriculture 1987. Most of the ZIP Code statistics are frequency counts of establishments or farms in particular size classes. The census of manufactures provides cou nts of establishments by industry by employment-size class. The censuses of retail trade and service industries provide establishment counts by sales-size as well as employment-size for detailed kinds of business. Retail, service, and manufacturing establishments with no paid employees are not covered in these tabulations. The census of agriculture reports counts of farms classified by size in several ways: land area, market value of products sold, cattle inventory, hogs inventory, and cropland of three types. In addition, other files include the aggregate sales or receipts, payroll, and employment in establishments engaged in retail trade or service industries. The ZIP Code statistics from the economic censuses are available on CD-ROM and computer tape only. The ZIP Code data from the census of agriculture correspond to the contents of the subject report ZIP Code Tabulations of Selected Items, series AC87-S-6. Retail, service and agriculture data are presented in separate files state-by-state. The manufactures data are in a nationwide summary file.

Longitude and latitude, state, address, name, and zip code of Farmers Markets in the United States
In 2024, the average value of U.S. farm real estate was 4,170 U.S. dollars per acre. Compared to one decade earlier, the value has increased by almost 40 percent. Generally, the value of U.S. farm real estate has had an upward trend since 1970. U.S. farms The number of farms in the United States has conversely been decreasing each year, reaching about two million farms as of 2022. That year, Texas had the most farms out of any other U.S. state by far, with about 246,000 farms. Missouri and Iowa had the second and third most farms, though neither state exceeded 100,000 farms. Agricultural trade Agricultural products encompass any products from agricultural origin that are meant for human consumption or animal feed. Agricultural products can include livestock products or crops. In 2022, the U.S. exported about 196.4 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of agricultural goods worldwide, increasing from the previous several years. Mexico is a key destination for U.S. agricultural products and imported just over 28 billion dollars’ worth in 2022, more than Europe and Eurasia combined.

This indicator provides information about the geographic locations for farmers’ markets, including site name, address, city, and zip code.Farmers’ markets are valuable community resources that can promote healthy eating by making fresh and in-season fruits and vegetables readily available to residents. Many farmers’ markets are also able to process payments through the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) system or accept checks from food assistance programs, such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (better known as WIC).For more information about the Community Health Profiles Data Initiative, please see the initiative homepage.

A CAFO is an animal feeding operation that is regulated under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting program. The NPDES program regulates discharges from point sources to surface waters, and under the Clean Water Act, CAFOs are considered point sources of pollution. This data includes regulated CAFOs in Michigan in 2023 only, and features information about each site including its designated name, permittee name, permit status, total animals housed, how much waste it produces, how much land is available and used for CAFO waste application. This contains regulated CAFOs in 2023. To view CAFOs prior to 2023, view this open data layer. New layers will be added to the open data portal on a yearly basis.Learn more about EGLE's CAFO program by visiting Michigan.gov/CAFO.
