In 2023, roughly 1.49 billion adults worldwide had a net worth of less than 10,000 U.S. dollars. Wealth is not synonymous with income, however, because having a large income can be depleted if one has significant expenses. In 2023, nearly 1,700 billionaires had a total wealth between one to two billion U.S. dollars. Wealth worldwide China had the highest number of billionaires in 2023, with the United States following behind. That same year, New York had the most billionaires worldwide.

    Description

In 2023, roughly 2.2 million people were looking for employment registered under the PESO Employment Information System (PEIS) of the labor department in the Philippines. This was just slightly higher than in the previous year.

     Employment situation in the Philippines

The Philippines has a predominantly young population, with working-age individuals totaling about 77 million in 2022. In that same year, the employment rate stood at 94.6 percent, with over half of the employed population working in the services industry. However, as the country experienced long periods of lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment and underemployment slightly increased. Most importantly, the number of job vacancies registered under the PESO Employment Information System (PEIS) in that year was just a third of the total number of registered job seekers in the Philippines.

PESO Employment Information System (PEIS) – more information

To improve the local labor and employment situation in the Philippines, the Department of Labor and Employment created a database that shows information on job vacancies and the active workforce supply of registered job seekers. Through this free multiservice facility, applicants can request a job match based on their skills, while employers can fill in their vacancies by browsing through a database of qualified applicants. In 2023, about 35,000 employers registered on the platform, looking mostly for production workers and call center agents.

In 2024, the revenue from advertising during the 96th Academy Awards ceremony was expected to reach 120 million U.S. dollars, marking an increase from the previous year's ad revenue of 117.4 million dollars.

Telecast on Disney’s ABC network, the Academy Awards have long been a prime platform for advertisers, with the broadcast consistently standing out as one of the most-watched non-sports events on television year after year.

    30-second spots get pricier
Growing Academy Awards ad revenues have gone hand in hand with an increasing average price for a 30-second commercial aired during the show. In 2024, the average spot price was forecast to add up to 2.2 million dollars – a rise from the 1.9 million being doled out five years earlier.

Viewer numbers rebounding, but far from heyday
The Oscars inventory is routinely sold out before the broadcast, a notable feat amid a general downturn for entertainment advertising on linear TV networks. As a live event, the Oscars have been able to leverage the “must-watch” appeal of their broadcast. The show has been gradually regaining viewers lost during the pandemic, with the 2024 edition bringing the highest U.S. rating in four years. However, despite the increase in viewership, the last time the broadcast drew in an American audience of more than 40 million was in 2014.
