    Description

NYC Neighborhoods polygons and correlated data with their respective Postal Codes, Assembly Districts, Community Districts, Congressional Districts, Council Districts and State Senate Districts created by Ontodia. There are hundreds of neighborhoods in New York City's five boroughs, each with unique characteristics and histories. Many historical neighborhood names are derived from the names of the previously independent villages, towns, and cities that were incorporated into into the City of New York in the consolidation of 1898. Other neighborhood names have been introduced by real estate developers and urban planners, sometimes contentiously. Boundaries of neighborhoods are notoriously fuzzy, although many boundaries are widely agreed upon. Complicating the definition of neighborhood further, boundaries may overlap, some neighborhoods may function as a micro-neighborhood within another neighborhood, or a larger district which can be made up of multiple neighborhoods. Names and boundaries of neighborhoods shift over time; they are determined by the collective conscious of the people who live, work, and play in these places. There is never an official version of neighborhoods, but the concept is deeply meaningful to many people. In many cases a New Yorker is just as proud to claim identity with a particular neighborhood, and visitors plan their trips around visits to specific neighborhoods. To display data about neighborhoods on NYCpedia we created our own neighborhood boundaries, 264 in all. In order to display a continuous map with no overlap some boundaries have been stretched or shrunk, and neighborhoods have been omitted in this version. We intend to expand our work developing neighborhood polygon files (all released with open source license) and also to collect and organize as many meaningful alternative versions of neighborhood boundaries as possible. If you are a map geek or software developer who builds apps about New York City you can find the shapefile and geoJSON of the NYCpedia neighborhoods on Data Wrangler. Drop us a line if you see any errors, or if you have suggestions for how to improve our conception of NYC geography.

    Description

This dataset represents a compilation of data from various government agencies throughout the City of New York. The underlying geography is derived from the Tax Lot Polygon feature class that is part of the Department of Finance's Digital Tax Map (DTM). The tax lots have been clipped to the shoreline, as defined by NYCMap planimetric features. The attribute information is from the Department of City Planning's PLUTO data. The attribute data pertains to tax lot and building characteristics and geographic, political and administrative information for each tax lot in New York City. The Tax Lot Polygon feature class and PLUTO are derived from different sources. As a result, some PLUTO records do not have a corresponding tax lot in the Tax Lot polygon feature class at the time of release. These records are included in a separate non-geographic PLUTO Only table. There are a number of reasons why there can be a tax lot in PLUTO that does not match the DTM; the most common reason is that the various source files are maintained by different departments and divisions with varying update cycles and criteria for adding and removing records. The attribute definitions for the PLUTO Only table are the same as those for MapPLUTO. DCP Mapping Lots includes some features that are not on the tax maps. They have been added by DCP for cartographic purposes. They include street center 'malls', traffic islands and some built streets through parks. These features have very few associated attributes. To report problems, please open a GitHub issue or email DCPOpendata@planning.nyc.gov.DATES OF INPUT DATASETS:Department of City Planning - E-Designations: 2/5/2021Department of City Planning - Zoning Map Index: 7/31/2019Department of City Planning - NYC City Owned and Leased Properties: 11/15/2020Department of City Planning - NYC GIS Zoning Features: 2/5/2021Department of City Planning - Polictical and Administrative Districts: 11/17/2020Department of City Planning - Geosupport version 20D: 11/17/2020Department of Finance - Digital Tax Map: 1/30/2021Department of Finance - Mass Appraisal System (CAMA): 2/10/2021Department of Finance - Property Tax System (PTS): 2/6/2021Landmarks Preservation Commission - Historic Districts: 2/4/2021Landmarks Preservation Commission - Individual Landmarks: 2/4/2021Department of Information Telecommunications & Technology - Building Footprints: 2/10/2021Department of Parks and Recreation - GreenThumb Garden Info: 1/4/2021

    Description

Net change in housing units arising from new buildings, demolitions, or alterations for NYC Community Districts since 2010. The NYC Department of City Planning’s (DCP) Housing Database provide the 2010 census count of housing units, the net change in Class A housing units since the census, and the count of units pending completion for commonly used political and statistical boundaries. These tables are aggregated from the DCP Housing Database, which is derived from Department of Buildings (DOB)-approved housing construction and demolition jobs filed or completed in NYC since January 1, 2010. Net housing unit change is calculated as the sum of all three construction job types that add or remove residential units: new buildings, major alterations, and demolitions, and can be used to determine the change in legal housing units across time and space. Description

Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTA) are medium-sized statistical geographies for reporting Decennial Census and American Community Survey (ACS). NTAs are created by aggregating census tracts and nest within Community District Tabulation Areas (CDTA). NTAs were created with the need for both geographic specificity and statistical reliability in mind. Consequently, each NTA contains enough population to mitigate sampling error associated with the ACS yet offers a unit of analysis that is smaller than a Community District.Though NTA boundaries and their associated names roughly correspond with many neighborhoods commonly recognized by New Yorkers, NTAs are not intended to definitively represent neighborhoods, nor are they intended to be exhaustive of all possible names and understandings of neighborhoods throughout New York City. Additionally, non-residential areas including large parks, airports, cemeteries, and other special areas are represented separately within this dataset and are assigned codes according to their type (See NTAType field).

    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File/Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs) are decennial census areas that permit the tabulation and dissemination of Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) data, American Community Survey (ACS) data, and data from other census and surveys. For the 2020 Census, the State Data Centers (SDCs) in each state, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico had the opportunity to delineate PUMAS within their state or statistically equivalent entity. All PUMAs must nest within states and have a minimum population threshold of 100,000 persons. 2020 PUMAs consist of census tracts and cover the entirety of the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam. American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands do not contain any 2020 PUMAs because the population is less than the minimum population requirement. Each PUMA is identified by a 5-character numeric census code that may contain leading zeros and a descriptive name. The 2020 PUMAs will appear in the 2022 TIGER/Line Shapefiles.

Shapefile of zoning quartersection map index. Grid to determine which zoning quartersection map relates to specific areas of NYC.

A sectional index grid to determine which Zoning Map refers to specific areas of New York City. Zoning maps show the boundaries of zoning districts throughout the city. The maps are regularly updated after the City Planning Commission and the City Council have approved proposed zoning changes. The set of 126 maps, which are part of the Zoning Resolution, are displayed in 35 sections. Each section is identified by a number from 1 to 35 and is further divided into one to four quarters, each identified by a letter a, b, c or d (map 8d or 33c for example).
