This dataset compiles a comprehensive database containing 90,327 street segments in New York City, covering their street design features, streetscape design, Vision Zero treatments, and neighborhood land use. It has two scales-street and street segment group (aggregation of same type of street at neighborhood). This dataset is derived based on all publicly available data, most from NYC Open Data. The detailed methods can be found in the published paper, Pedestrian and Car Occupant Crash Casualties Over a 9-Year Span of Vision Zero in New York City. Description

This map answers the question "What is the most common, or predominant, education level for people in this area?" The map shows predominant educational attainment in each census tract. Darker colors indicate a greater gap between the predominant group and the next largest group. The U.S. Census Bureau asks citizens to indicate how far they went in formal education. The database includes seven different columns, each representing a count of population by that education level. A simple routine in compares the seven columns of information, and finds which one has the highest value, writing that to a string field. Each tract's transparency is set by a transparency field added to the data.Predominance maps can be created in ArcGIS Online by adding two fields, calculating their values, and setting up the renderer based on those two fields. See this blog by Jim Herries for details on how to create a predominance map in ArcGIS Online from any feature layer.See this GitHub repo by Jennifer Bell for a script you can run in ArcMap as a script tool, to calculate predominance for any columns of data you have.

    Description

"Neighborhood Financial Health (NFH) Digital Mapping and Data Tool provides neighborhood financial health indicator data for every neighborhood in New York City. DCWP's Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) also developed NFH Indexes to present patterns in the data within and across neighborhoods. NFH Index scores describe relative differences between neighborhoods across the same indicators; they do not evaluate neighborhoods against fixed standards. OFE intends for the NFH Indexes to provide an easy reference tool for comparing neighborhoods, and to establish patterns in the relationship of NFH indicators to economic and demographic factors, such as race and income. Understanding these connections is potentially useful for uncovering systems that perpetuate the racial wealth gap, an issue with direct implications for OFE’s mission to expand asset building opportunities for New Yorkers with low and moderate incomes. This data tool was borne out of the Collaborative for Neighborhood Financial Health, a community-led initiative designed to better understand how neighborhoods influence the financial health of their residents.

    Description

Net change in housing units arising from new buildings, demolitions, or alterations for NYC Census Blocks since 2010. The NYC Department of City Planning's (DCP) Housing Database provide the 2010 census count of housing units, the net change in Class A housing units since the census, and the count of units pending completion for commonly used political and statistical boundaries. These tables are aggregated from the DCP Housing Database, which is derived from Department of Buildings (DOB)-approved housing construction and demolition jobs filed or completed in NYC since January 1, 2010. Net housing unit change is calculated as the sum of all three construction job types that add or remove residential units: new buildings, major alterations, and demolitions, and can be used to determine the change in legal housing units across time and space. All previously released versions of this data are available at BYTES of the BIG APPLE - Archive.

    Description

Listing of all Senior Centers, Abuse Prevention Contracts, Home Care Contracts, Legal Services Contracts, NORC Contracts, Transportation Contracts, Case Mangement Contracts, Home Delivered Meal Contracts and Caregiver Contracts in all five boroughs.

The Department for the Aging (DFTA) provides a wide array of services specific to the elderly population of New York City. To accomplish this, the department contracts out to organizations (mainly non-profit) to provide these services throughout the five boroughs. The majority of the services provided are through our Neighborhood Senior Centers which provide free meals (mostly lunch, some breakfast and dinner meals) that meet nutritional standards defined by the FDA. DFTA provides this data of our contracted agencies sorted by the contract servivce type. The dataset contains the relevant information for the public to contact the agencies providing the services they may be seeking. The data is limited in that the contract service type does not provide the full scope of services that are provided in detail.

The Capital Planning Platform is a new resource for collaborative planning, powered by open data and open source technology. The New York City Department of City Planning pioneered open data with Bytes of the Big Apple a decade ago. With the creation of the DCP"s Capital Planning Division in 2014, we envisioned a new civic technology resource: the Capital Planning Platform - a place for planners to access the maps, data, and analytics that they need to plan for public investments in neighborhoods and collaborate with one another. The NYC Facilities Explorer (beta) is a first step in building this vision. Over the months and years to come, we plan to add more map layers, new and improved datasets, and new analysis tools to this mapping platform to help automate a broad array of planning analyses and make the capital planning process more efficient, coordinated, and strategic across the public and private sectors in New York City. The Capital Planning Platform complements other data and maps that DCP produces. We also encourage users to explore the following resources, among others, on DCP"s website.NYC Census FactFinder - An interactive tool for creating demographic, social, economic, and housing profiles for neighborhoods and user-defined groupings of Census tracts.PLUTO and MapPLUTO - Extensive land use and geographic data at the tax lot level in multiple formats.Zoning and Land use Application (ZoLA) – ZoLA provides a simple way to research zoning regulations in New York City.Waterfront Access Map - This interactive map identifies and provides information about New York City’s inventory of publicly-accessible waterfront spaces.Community Portal - The DCP Community Portal offers resources on a variety of topics related to land use, community planning, and demographic trends for each of New York City’s 59 Community Boards

PUMAs have a minimum population of 100,000, are aggregated from census tracts, and approximate Community Districts (CDs), or combinations of CDs (There are 59 CDs and only 55 NYC PUMAs because of such combinations). These boundary files are derived from the US Census Bureau's TIGER project and have been geographically modified to fit the New York City base map. Description

Street tree data from the TreesCount! 2015 Street Tree Census, conducted by volunteers and staff organized by NYC Parks & Recreation and partner organizations. Tree data collected includes tree species, diameter and perception of health. Accompanying blockface data is available indicating status of data collection and data release citywide.

The 2015 tree census was the third decadal street tree census and largest citizen science initiative in NYC Parks’ history. Data collection ran from May 2015 to October 2016 and the results of the census show that there are 666,134 trees planted along NYC's streets. The data collected as part of the census represents a snapshot in time of trees under NYC Parks' jurisdiction.

The census data formed the basis of our operational database, the Forestry Management System (ForMS) which is used daily by our foresters and other staff for inventory and asset management: https://data.cityofnewyork.us/browse?sortBy=most_accessed&utf8=%E2%9C%93&Data-Collection_Data-Collection=Forestry+Management+System+%28ForMS%29

To learn more about the data collected and managed in ForMS, please refer to this user guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PVPWFi-WExkG3rvnagQDoBbqfsGzxCKNmR6n678nUeU/edit. For information on the city's current tree population, use the ForMS datasets.
