Population estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau by U.S. Census Block.

Prepared by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, the block group subset was extracted from the Census of Population and Housing, 2000, Summary File 3 (SF3). The SF3 data contain information compiled from the questions asked of a sample of persons and housing units enumerated in Census 2000. Population items include sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship, marital status, caregiving by grandparents, language and ability to speak English, ancestry, place of birth, citizenship status and year of entry to the United States, migration, place of work, journey to work, school enrollment, educational attainment, veteran status, disability, employment status, industry, occupation, class of worker, income, and poverty status. Housing items include housing unit vacancy status, housing unit tenure (owner/renter), number of rooms, number of bedrooms, year moved into unit, occupants per room, units in structure, year structure built, heating fuel, telephone service, plumbing and kitchen facilities, vehicles available, value of home, rent, and shelter costs. The information in SF3 is presented in 813 tables, one variable per table cell, plus additional variables with geographic information. However, only 409 of these tables are shown for the block group and higher levels of geography. The remaining 404 tables, which are shown for the census tract and higher levels of geography, were excluded from the block group subset. Cases in the summary file data are classified by levels of observation, known as "summary levels" in the Census Bureau's nomenclature. The block group subset comprises all of the cases in the SF3 data for summary level 150. Five data files are provided with this collection. There is a block group subset for each of the four census regions (Northeast, Midwest, South, and West), plus a national subset that covers all of the regions.

This service identifies U.S. Census Block Groups in which 51% or more of the households earn less than 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program requires that each CDBG funded activity must either principally benefit low- and moderate-income persons, aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight, or meet a community development need having a particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community and other financial resources are not available to meet that need. With respect to activities that principally benefit low- and moderate-income persons, at least 51 percent of the activity's beneficiaries must be low and moderate income.

The 1990 Census Block Statistics portion of the Archive of Census Related Products (ACRP) contains population and housing data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 1990 Summary Tape File (STF1B). The population data includes total population, age, race, and hispanic origin, while the housing data comprises number of housing Units, tenure, room density, mean contract rent, mean value, and mean number of rooms. Additional data includes land area, water area, centroids, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) codes, place codes, and special area codes. This portion of the ACRP is produced by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).

This EnviroAtlas dataset describes the block group population and the percentage of the block group population that has potential views of water bodies. A potential view of water is defined as having a body of water that is greater than 300m2 within 50m of a residential location. The window views are considered "potential" because the procedure does not account for presence or directionality of windows in one's home. The residential locations are defined using the EnviroAtlas Dasymetric (2011/October 2015) map. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. The dataset is available as downloadable data (https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/ORD/EnviroAtlas) or as an EnviroAtlas map service. Abstract

Displays several units of energy consumption for households, businesses, and industries in the City of Chicago during 2010. Electric The data was aggregated from ComEd and Peoples Natural Gas by Accenture. Electrical and gas usage data comprises 88 percent of Chicago's buildings in 2010. The electricity data comprises 68 percent of overall electrical usage in the city while gas data comprises 81 percent of all gas consumption in Chicago for 2010. Census blocks with less than 4 accounts is displayed at the Community Area without further geographic identifiers. This dataset also contains selected variables describing selected characteristics of the Census block population, physical housing, and occupancy.

This dataset is published by the Research & Analytics Group at the Atlanta Regional Commission to show population change by utilizing the 2020 redistricting data and comparable data for 2010, 2000, and 1990 across multiple geographies for the State of Georgia. The manifest details ARC-defined naming conventions, names/descriptions and topics where applicable, summary levels; source tables; notes and so forth for all metrics.

It should be noted:The 2020 redistricting release is not as detailed in terms of data compared to ACS estimates; data include total population, population by race and ethnicity, and "voting age" population (i.e., adults) by race and ethnicity, adults are subtracted from the total population to show children (ages 0-17); total number of housing units, occupied housing units, and vacant housing units. Percent and change measures are calculated over four different Censuses.These data are expressed in terms of 2020 geographies such as the new 2020 Census tracts. This means that that historical data for geographies like cities have been estimated to the 2020 boundaries. For example, the city of Atlanta, which has made multiple annexations since 1990, has a higher estimated 1990 population of 400,452 (2020 boundaries) than the 394,017 reported in the 1990 Census (1990 boundaries).Due to changes in block geographies and annexations, 2010 population totals for custom geographies such as City of Atlanta NSAs may differ slightly from the numbers we have published in the past.The procedure to re-estimate historical data to 2020 blocks often results in fractional population (e.g., 1.25 instead of 1 or 2). Counts have been rounded to the nearest whole, but to be more precise, all aggregation, percent, and change measures were performed pre-rounding. Some change measures may appear curious as a result. For example, 100.4 - 20.8 = 79.6 which rounds to 80. But if rounded first, 100.4 rounds down to 100, 20.8 rounds up to 21; 100 - 21 = 79.Asian and Pacific Islander categories are combined to maximize compatibility with the 1990 release, which reported the two groups as a single category. The approximate populations of municipalities in County Board District 1 were derived from the 2010 census data. The Census data was clipped by the County Board District and Municipalities. For Census blocks that fell on district lines, a population was determined based on area and population. The new area of the clipped Census block divided by the original Census block area yields a percentage of area changed. This number was then multiplied by the total population of the Census block and rounded to the nearest whole number. Results were mathmatically and visually checked for accuracy.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program requires that each CDBG funded activity must either principally benefit low- and moderate-income persons, aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight, or meet a community development need having a particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community and other financial resources are not available to meet that need. With respect to activities that principally benefit low- and moderate-income persons, at least 51 percent of the activity's beneficiaries must be low and moderate income. For CDBG, a person is considered to be of low income only if he or she is a member of a household whose income would qualify as "very low income" under the Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments program. Generally, these Section 8 limits are based on 50% of area median. Similarly, CDBG moderate income relies on Section 8 "lower income" limits, which are generally tied to 80% of area median. This count of every resident in the United States was mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and all households in the U.S. and individuals living in group quarters were required by law to respond to the 2010 Census questionnaire. The data collected by the decennial census determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. The questionnaire consisted of a limited number of questions but allowed for the collection of information on the number of people in the household and their relationship to the householder, an individual's age, sex, race and Hispanic ethnicity, the number of housing units and whether those units are owner- or renter-occupied, or vacant. The first wave of results for sub-state geographic areas in New Mexico was released on March 15, 2011, through the Redistricting Data (PL94-171) Summary File. This batch of data covers the state, counties, places (both incorporated and unincorporated communities), tribal lands, school districts, neighborhoods (census tracts and block groups), individual census blocks, and other areas. The Redistricting products provide counts by race and Hispanic ethnicity for the total population and the population 18 years and over, and housing unit counts by occupancy status. The 2010 Census Redistricting Data Summary File can be used to redraw federal, state and local legislative districts under Public Law 94-171. This is an important purpose of the file and, indeed, state officials use the Redistricting Data to realign congressional and state legislative districts in their states, taking into account population shifts since the 2000 Census. More detailed population and housing characteristics were released in the summer of 2011. The data in this particular RGIS Clearinghouse table is for all Block Groups in Harding County. The table provides total counts population.

The Bureau of the Census has released Census 2000 Summary File 1 (SF1) 100-Percent data. The file includes the following population items: sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship, and household and family characteristics. Housing items include occupancy status and tenure (whether the unit is owner or renter occupied). SF1 does not include information on incomes, poverty status, overcrowded housing or age of housing. These topics will be covered in Summary File 3. Data are available for states, counties, county subdivisions, places, census tracts, block groups, and, where applicable, American Indian and Alaskan Native Areas and Hawaiian Home Lands. The SF1 data are available on the Bureau's web site and may be retrieved from American FactFinder as tables, lists, or maps. Users may also download a set of compressed ASCII files for each state via the Bureau's FTP server. There are over 8000 data items available for each geographic area. The full listing of these data items is available here as a downloadable compressed data base file named TABLES.ZIP. The uncompressed is in FoxPro data base file (dbf) format and may be imported to ACCESS, EXCEL, and other software formats. While all of this information is useful, the Office of Community Planning and Development has downloaded selected information for all states and areas and is making this information available on the CPD web pages. The tables and data items selected are those items used in the CDBG and HOME allocation formulas plus topics most pertinent to the Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy (CHAS), the Consolidated Plan, and similar overall economic and community development plans. The information is contained in five compressed (zipped) dbf tables for each state. When uncompressed the tables are ready for use with FoxPro and they can be imported into ACCESS, EXCEL, and other spreadsheet, GIS and database software. The data are at the block group summary level. The first two characters of the file name are the state abbreviation. The next two letters are BG for block group. Each record is labeled with the code and name of the city and county in which it is located so that the data can be summarized to higher-level geography. The last part of the file name describes the contents . The GEO file contains standard Census Bureau geographic identifiers for each block group, such as the metropolitan area code and congressional district code. The only data included in this table is total population and total housing units. POP1 and POP2 contain selected population variables and selected housing items are in the HU file. The MA05 table data is only for use by State CDBG grantees for the reporting of the racial composition of beneficiaries of Area Benefit activities. The complete package for a state consists of the dictionary file named TABLES, and the five data files for the state. The logical record number (LOGRECNO) links the records across tables.

This 2016 Population By-census dataset contains statistics relevant to demographic, household and housing characteristics of the Hong Kong population residing in the 2300 Small Street Block Groups in 2016. The dataset also contains the boundaries of individual Small Street Block Groups. Since 1961, a population census has been conducted in Hong Kong every 10 years and a by-census in the middle of the intercensal period. The 2016 Population By-census, which was conducted in June to August 2016, provides benchmark statistics on the socio-economic characteristics of the Hong Kong population vital to the planning and policy formulation of the government. This dataset will be incorporated into Population Distribution Framework Spatial Data Theme.

This collection provides 100-percent data for states and their subareas in hierarchical sequence down to the block group level. Also included are complete summaries for places, census tract/block numbering areas, block groups, congressional districts, and consolidated cities. Population items include age, race, sex, marital status, Hispanic origin, household type, and household relationship. Population items are crosstabulated by age, race, Hispanic origin, or sex. Housing items include occupancy/vacancy status, tenure, units in structure, contract rent, meals included in rent, value, and number of rooms in housing unit. Housing data are crosstabulated by race or Hispanic origin of householder or by tenure. Selected aggregates and medians are also provided. Data are presented in 37 population tables and 63 housing tables. The file for Puerto Rico (Part 72) also contains 100-percent data in hierarchical sequence down to the block group level. Also included are complete summaries for sub-barrio, census track/block numbering areas, block group, municipio, and place. The population items include age, sex, marital status, group quarters, household type, and household relationship. Population items are crosstabulated by age and sex. Housing items include occupancy/vacancy status, tenure, units in structure, contract rent, plumbing facilities, condominium status, value, and number of rooms in housing unit. Housing data are crosstabulated by tenure. Selected aggregates and medians are also provided. Data are presented in 26 population tables and 48 housing tables.

Age and Gender Demographics in the 2010 CensusThis feature layer, utilizing data from the U.S. Census Bureau, displays 2010 demographics about age and gender in the U.S. for state, county, tract, and block group geographies. Per USCB, "Focusing on a population’s age and sex composition is one of the most basic ways to understand population change over time." The attributes cover topics such as population counts by 5-year age ranges, male and female population counts, and median age values. METHODOLOGY NOTES (across all datasets for this indicator) All legal boundaries and names for Census geography (metropolitan statistical area, county, city, and tract) are as of January 1, 2010, released beginning November 30, 2010, by the U.S. Census Bureau. A Priority Development Area (PDA) is a locally-designated area with frequent transit service, where a jurisdiction has decided to concentrate most of its housing and jobs growth for development in the foreseeable future. PDA boundaries are current as of August 2019. For more information on PDA designation see http://gis.abag.ca.gov/website/PDAShowcase/.

Population estimates for Bay Area counties and cities are from the California Department of Finance, which are as of January 1st of each year. Population estimates for non-Bay Area regions are from the U.S. Census Bureau. Decennial Census years reflect population as of April 1st of each year whereas population estimates for intercensal estimates are as of July 1st of each year. Population estimates for Bay Area tracts are from the decennial Census (1970 -2010) and the American Community Survey (2008-2012 5-year rolling average; 2010-2014 5-year rolling average; 2013-2017 5-year rolling average). Estimates of population density for tracts use gross acres as the denominator.

Population estimates for Bay Area PDAs are from the decennial Census (1970 - 2010) and the American Community Survey (2006-2010 5 year rolling average; 2010-2014 5-year rolling average; 2013-2017 5-year rolling average). Population estimates for PDAs are derived from Census population counts at the tract level for 1970-1990 and at the block group level for 2000-2017. Population from either tracts or block groups are allocated to a PDA using an area ratio. For example, if a quarter of a Census block group lies with in a PDA, a quarter of its population will be allocated to that PDA. Tract-to-PDA and block group-to-PDA area ratios are calculated using gross acres. Estimates of population density for PDAs use gross acres as the denominator.

Annual population estimates for metropolitan areas outside the Bay Area are from the Census and are benchmarked to each decennial Census. The annual estimates in the 1990s were not updated to match the 2000 benchmark.

This dataset represents the geospatial extent as polygons and the corresponding attribution for census block groups that meet the definition of low-income communities according to the Virginia 2020 Environmental Justice Act: “Low-income community” definition: “’Low-income community’ means any census block group in which 30 percent or more of the population is composed of people with low income.”
