    Description

Download .zipThis grid dataset is a digital-elevation model (DEM) for Ohio and portions of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan. The grid dataset was initially extracted from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Elevation Dataset (NED), which has a grid cell size of 30 meters.

Even though the NED dataset was produced to provide a seamless and consistent DEM data across the United States, there were still visible errors associated with USGS Level 1 DEM's. These errors were removed and replaced with new grids derived from the USGS Digital Line Graph (DLG) hypsography. The resulting DEM will be used in the analysis of geological features with respect to the earth's surface, and will be one component of cartographic basemaps.Contact Information:GIS Support, ODNR GIS ServicesOhio Department of Natural ResourcesOffice of Information TechnologyGIS Records2045 Morse Rd, Bldg I-2Columbus, OH, 43229Telephone: 614-265-6462Email: gis.support@dnr.ohio.gov

    Description

Download .zipThis theme shows the county boundaries for the State of Ohio. Boundaries were assembled from individual USGS Quadrangle digital line graph files (dlg) of the boundary layer (bd). These files were obtained from the GIS Support Center, Ohio Department of Administrative Services and were originally prepared by the Ohio State University Center for Mapping in cooperation with the United States Geological Survey with additional funding from several state agencies and other groups. These files were augmented in a few instances with hand digitizing where small missing line segments were found. The Lake Erie shoreline and islands in Lake Erie were added from the Hydrography layer (hy). It should be noted that because the quadrangles used varied over a wide rangle of years this line does not represent a particular water level and is for illustrative purposes only. For example there is a wide offset between the shoreline on the Metzger Marsh Quadrangle and that of the Oak Harbor Quadrangle. This distance is so large that no attempt was made to edgematch the two quadrangles. The line connecting the two shorelines represents the quadrangle boundary. For the purposes of this map Sandusky Bay and Muddy Creek Bay were included as a part of Lake Erie. The Lake Erie shoreline is not meant to represent any Lake Erie shoreline which may be used for regulatory puposes. An updated boundary for Fairfield-Licking-Perry Counties within Buckeye Lake was included by digitizing the boundary from a more recently updated quadrangle map. Conversion from the dlg format to ArcInfo was accomplished using ArcInfo software in conjuction with an AML program to adjust the quadrangles so that their corners fall on the exact coordinates of the quadrangle corners. Due to the way in wihich coordinates are stored in the dlg's there is some variation in the quadrangle corner coordinates.Contact Information:GIS Support, ODNR GIS ServicesOhio Department of Natural ResourcesOffice of Information TechnologyGIS Records2045 Morse Rd, Bldg I-2Columbus, OH, 43229Telephone: 614-265-6462Email: gis.support@dnr.ohio.gov

This dataset contains the 1:500,000-scale bedrock geology of Ohio. The bedrock geology dataset was originally derived from the 1:24,000-scale bedrock-geology maps, that were created between 1989 through 1998. The bedrock-geology mapping program was initiated in the mid-1980s to perform detailed, 1:24,000-scale bedrock-geology maps. In 1991, the mapping approach was amended to a reconnaissance mapping methodology, but retaining the 1:24,000 scale. Both detail and reconnaissance bedrock-geologic maps were used as the basic information to compile the 1:500,000-scale, Bedrock Geologic Map of Ohio.

Download .zipMaps and data associated with oil-and-gas wells represent one of the largest datasets at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. This GIS data layer contains all the locatable oil-and-gas wells in Ohio. The feature is derived from coordinates obtained from the Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management (DOGRM) oil and gas well database – Risk Based Data Management System (RBDMS). The RBDMS database has a long history and is a comprehensive collection of well data from historic pre-1980 paper well records (digitized by the Division of Geological Survey (DGS)) to post-1980 DOGRM database solutions.Since 1860, it is estimated that more than 267,000 oil-and-gas wells have been drilled in Ohio. The compressed file also includes a feature used to connect the surface location to the bottom location of a well that has been drilled directionally or horizontally. This feature is NOT the actual wellbore path, it is simply a graphical representation indicating the relationship between the two well points.Contact Information:GIS Support, ODNR GIS ServicesOhio Department of Natural ResourcesDivision of Oil & Gas ResourcesOil and Gas Resources Management2045 Morse Road Bldg F-2Columbus, OH, 43229-6693Telephone: 614-265-6462Email: gis.support@dnr.ohio.gov

This dataset contains the 1:24,000-scale bedrock geology map data for Ohio. The map data were originally derived from the 1:24,000-scale bedrock-geology maps, which were created between the mid 1960's through 1997. Detailed mapping at 1:24,000 scale was performed in Ohio from the 1960's to the 1980's. During that time period, 37 7.5-minute quadrangles were mapped in detail. The bedrock-geology mapping program was initiated at the Ohio Division of Geological Survey in 1991 to perform reconnaissance geologic mapping at 1:24,000 scale. The reconnaissance and detailed geologic mapping have been combined together into this GIS dataset. There will be edge-matching issues between the reconnaissance and detailed geologic maps.

Although the USGS does not claim legal responsibility for the accuracy of these data. For the purposes of this map Sandusky Bay and Muddy Creek Bay were included as a part of Lake Erie. The Lake Erie shoreline is not meant to represent any Lake Erie shoreline which may be used for regulatory puposes. This has since been modified to be more accurate and inline with the NOAA project that mapped the bathymetry of the Great Lakes. The boundaries were modified to better match these data.

Due to the way in wihich coordinates are stored in the dlg's there is some variation in the quadrangle corner coordinates.

Since 200; additional edits to these data were made in 2002 by ODNR staff through the creation of the Public Lands Survey digitization project.

Further edits were made in 2012 in conjunction with a BLM project to establish cadastral standards.Contact Information:GIS Support, ODNR GIS ServicesOhio Department of Natural ResourcesOffice of Information TechnologyGIS Records2045 Morse Rd, Bldg I-2Columbus, OH, 43229Telephone: 614-265-6462Email: gis.support@dnr.ohio.gov

    Description

Download .zipThis coverage land represents an interpretation of land use and land cover types done from aerial photography by the ODNR GIS Services, Division of Real Estate and Land Management. For an explanation of categories see Ohio Land Use/ Cover Classifications System, Misc. Report 17 available upon request, or at http://apps.ohiodnr.gov/geodata/documents/Ohio_LULC_Misc_Report17.pdf .

Land use/ land cover was simultaneously interpreted and digitized into an ArcView shapefile for each 7.5 minute quadrangle in the county using the Digital Transfer Scope Extension. Background reference themes of roads, railroads hydrography and political boundaries from the USGS 1:24000 DLG's were used as an aid to interpretation. Photos were registered to the background layers as closely as possible. The background themes were then warped to fit the photos. A minimum of four control points were used in each photo. After interpretation the lines were unwarped back to the proper coordinates. Using several Arc/Info programs and software routines the shapefiles were converted into Arc/Info coverages, edgematched, and joined into a county coverage. A more detailed description ot the entire process is available upon request.

Original coverage data was converted from the .e00 file to a more standard ESRI shapefile(s) in November 2014.Contact Information:GIS Support, ODNR GIS ServicesOhio Department of Natural ResourcesReal Estate & Land ManagementReal Estate and Lands Management2045 Morse Rd, Bldg I-2Columbus, OH, 43229Telephone: 614-265-6462Email: gis.support@dnr.ohio.gov

    Description

Download .zipThis file contains the data used by the Division of Wildlife for the construction of lake maps. Data was collected in the Ohio State Plane Coordinate System for both the northern and southern state planes in the Lambert Projection Zone. Except for the lakes in extreme western Ohio which is in UTM zone 16N the majority of lakes are in UTM zone 17N and datum NAD83. Data were collected by the Ohio Division of Wildlife using a Trimble GPS Pathfinder Pro XRS receiver and Recon datalogger. Geocoding of depths typically occurred during water levels that were ± 60 cm of full recreational pool while transversing the reservoir at 100m intervals driving at a vessel speed of 2.0-2.5 m/s. Depth contour lines were derived by creating a raster file from the point bathymetry and boundary lake data. ArcGIS Spatial Analyst Interpolation tool outputs point data that is then changed into polyline contours using the Spatial Analyst Surface tool. Download .zipA set of five mscellaneous reference files that are used with the geologic records maintained by the ODNR-Division of Geological Survey (ODGS). These five miscellaneous reference files can be used as look up tables within a database system.

The first refernce file contains list of all the oil-and-gas fields in the state of Ohio. This reference list dates from 1998 and has been updated on the ODGS PG-1 map. The second list is the geologic formation codes used by the ODGS. The ODGS has adopted the use of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Committee on Statistics for Drilling (AAPG-CSD) coding procedure for stratigraphic names. This coding scheme, used in FMCODES.ASC, designates a time code and a alphanumeric code derived from the formal name for each unit. The third reference file is the list of names of Ohio counties. The fourth reference file is the list of names of Ohio civil townships. The final reference file is the list of 7.5-minute topographic quadrangles in Ohio.

Additional details on the digitizing process are available upon request.Contact Information:GIS Support, ODNR GIS ServicesOhio Department of Natural ResourcesDivision of Wildlife2045 Morse Rd, Bldg G-2Columbus, OH, 43229Telephone: 614-265-6462Email: gis.support@dnr.ohio.gov
