The National Mental Health Services Survey (N-MHSS) is an annual survey designed to collect statistical information on the numbers and characteristics of all known mental health treatment facilities within the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. In every other year, beginning in 2014, the survey also collects statistical information on the numbers and demographic characteristics of persons served in these treatment facilities as of a specified survey reference date. The N-MHSS is the only source of national and State-level data on the mental health service delivery system reported by both publicly-operated and privately-operated specialty mental health treatment facilities, including: public psychiatric hospitals; private psychiatric hospitals, non-federal general hospitals with separate psychiatric units; U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers; residential treatment centers for children; residential treatment centers for adults; outpatient or day treatment or partial hospitalization mental health facilities; and multi-setting (non-hospital) mental health facilities. The N-MHSS complements the information collected through SAMHSA's survey of substance abuse treatment facilities, the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS). This is a monthly report on publicly funded community services for people of all ages using data from the Community Services Data Set (CSDS) reported in England for August 2025. It has been developed to help achieve better outcomes and provide data that will be used to commission services in a way that improves health, reduces inequalities, and supports service improvement and clinical quality. These statistics are classified as experimental and should be used with caution. Experimental statistics are new official statistics undergoing evaluation. More information about experimental statistics can be found on the UK Statistics Authority website (linked at the bottom of this page). A provisional data file for September 2025 is now included in this publication. Please note this is intended as an early view until providers submit a refresh of their data, which will be published next month.

The purpose of the National Census of Victim Service Providers (NCVSP) is to describe the field of organizations or programs that are dedicated to serving victims of crime or abuse. The NCVSP collects characteristics about victim service providers (VSPs) over the past year, including the structure of the organization, the services the organization provided to victims, the availability of a hotline/helpline for victims, the types of crimes for which victims received services, the number of staff providing victim services, and current issues of concern to victim service providers. The information is intended for use by policymakers, practitioners at the Federal, state and local levels, academic researchers, and special interest groups to inform decisions related to victim services and the organizations that provide these services. The NCVSP also provides descriptive information about the full universe of organizations that provide crime victim services that can be used to develop representative samples for the National Survey of Victim Service Providers (NSVSP) and other VSP surveys.

This report presents findings from the 2017 National Mental Health Services Survey (N-MHSS) conducted from March 2017 through December 2017.
